Prompt and welcoming service. Khaled provided me with information regarding how to navigate a state tax issue I had. He communicated well and described the scope of a possible solution. Would recommend using his services!

As an international student, I reached out to Khaled for help with my taxes. Not only did he guide me through the process smoothly, but he also identified and corrected mistakes from my previous filings. Thanks to his expertise, my refund was higher than expected. Highly recommended!

My relationship started with Len Pytlak when I was taking business classes at an Eastern Michigan University satellite facility. I learned so much from him in those classes! He was patient, candid and really nice to learn from. He then became my business and personal accountant. He's got a staff that is knowledgeable and friendly, too. 13 years later, I am proud to call him a good friend.

A2 CPA sorted through everything, built systems to make sure everything runs smoothly, and helped me file fast and simple. His advice is great, he and his team are always available, and they're thorough. Did I mention they're great about following up, even when I may not remember? This was a place recommended from Work and I found out it had been bought out by another person. Thinking it would still be a good place I went to have something reviewed. So disappointed! He was all over the place when we went. When we got our stuff back it was just a drop off. No explanation of what the changes were, no follow up. When we tried calling it took him a week to follow up. When we accidentally called the canton office to let them know we needed to pick up our file they never bothered to confir

Our company has been a client with Len for over 15 years. Len and his staff have always been professional, responsive, and a definite asset for our business. As a small business owner, I would highly recommend the services provided by Len. Eagle Associates, Inc. Ann Arbor, MI

I went to Ann Arbor CPA in the spring of 2018. I inquired via email and was very clear about the assistance that I needed in getting the proper forms filled out to file household employer taxes. I was told this was something that the accountant could help with. I was also told I would be billed to the 1/4 of the hour. When I came in for my meeting I was told that this is not a service they would provide and it was recommended that I try an online payroll service. That could have been told to me via email. A

Very helpful and pleasant staff. My husband did our income taxes and the IRS said we owed over $3600 on 2016 taxes (got the letter from them in 2018). I took everything to AA CPA, they said I didn't owe anything and they filed papers with the IRS. Then got a letter from the IRS saying we owed $1800. AA CPA said we don't owe anything. IRS just sent another letter saying we owed $0 and they have closed our case. I will be using AA CPA for all my tax work.

He and his staff are extremely professional and have always been responsive to my business and personal tax needs. I have been a client since the early 1990's and would not hesitate to recommend him and his staff to anyone looking for professional and personal tax services or advice.

Len is wonderful to work with. He is very accessible, patient and explains things to us in a way that we can understand! Thank you Len!

Very professional and really reasonable prices. My tax returns were completed very promptly and received my IRS refund within three weeks.

Good experience. Had a complicated tax return this year and needed help. The numbers we got back were excellent. Fast and easy.

All the way from California we work with Ann Arbor CPA. Very professional and knowledgeable. They are there for any question we ask. Thank you :)

Lots of unnecessary back and forth(answer the same question twice, he failed to see emails from me etc) , had to ask for updated quick books file(would think this is standard) , just took way too long.

His service is unbeatable, great communication, and will go above and beyond for you

Been my accountant for 5 years I love his work

Great place. Detailed and always honest. The fee is fair and the advice is great.

Does it right. A little timely to report back to us regarding changes.

Excellent CPA. Very knowledgeable and responsive.

Courteous, professional, and friendly.

Frequently Asked Questions

What qualifications should I look for in a CPA?

Look for a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license, which ensures they’ve passed rigorous exams and meet state requirements. Check for relevant experience in your industry, additional certifications like CFA or CMA, and membership in professional organizations like the AICPA. Verify their credentials through state licensing boards.

How do I find a CPA in my area?

Use online directories like the AICPA, CPAverify, or state CPA societies. Search platforms like Yelp or Google for local CPAs with reviews. Ask for referrals from business associates, friends, or financial advisors. Local chambers of commerce can also provide recommendations.

What’s the difference between a CPA and an accountant?

A CPA is a licensed professional who has passed the CPA exam and met state requirements for education and experience. An accountant may lack this certification and could have varying levels of expertise. For complex tasks like tax audits or financial reporting, a CPA is typically more qualified.

How do I know if a CPA specializes in my needs?

Ask about their experience with your specific financial needs, such as tax preparation, small business accounting, or estate planning. Review their website or LinkedIn for case studies or client testimonials. Inquire about their client base to ensure they handle similar financial situations.

Should I check a CPA’s reviews before hiring?

Yes, reviews provide insight into a CPA’s reliability, communication, and performance. Check platforms like Google, Yelp, or the Better Business Bureau for client feedback. Look for patterns in reviews, but verify their authenticity, as some may be biased or outdated.

How can I verify a CPA’s license?

Visit your state’s Board of Accountancy website or use CPAverify.org to check a CPA’s license status. Confirm their license is active and check for any disciplinary actions or complaints. This ensures they’re in good standing and meet professional standards.

What questions should I ask during a CPA consultation?

Ask about their experience with your financial needs, fee structure, availability, and communication style. Inquire how they handle tax filings, audits, or financial planning. Ask for references or examples of similar work to assess their expertise and fit.

How much should I expect to pay for a CPA’s services?

Fees vary based on location, services, and complexity. Basic tax preparation may cost $150-$500, while business accounting or audits can range from $1,000 to $10,000+. Request a detailed fee structure upfront and compare quotes from multiple CPAs.

Can I work with a CPA remotely?

Yes, many CPAs offer remote services through secure online platforms for document sharing and virtual consultations. Ensure they use encrypted tools for data security. Remote CPAs can be effective if they understand your local tax laws or business regulations.

How do I assess a CPA’s communication skills?

During consultations, evaluate their ability to explain complex financial concepts clearly. Ask sample questions about taxes or financial strategies and note their responsiveness and clarity. Good communication ensures you understand their advice and fosters a productive relationship.

What red flags should I watch for when screening a CPA?

Beware of CPAs who guarantee specific tax refunds, lack a valid license, or have disciplinary actions on record. Avoid those with poor communication, vague fee structures, or negative reviews highlighting unethical behavior. Always verify their credentials independently.

Should I choose a CPA from a large firm or a solo practitioner?

Large firms offer more resources and specialized teams but may charge higher fees. Solo practitioners often provide personalized service and lower costs but may have limited availability. Choose based on your needs, budget, and preference for personalized attention.

How often should I meet with my CPA?

For individuals, annual meetings for tax preparation may suffice. Businesses may need quarterly or monthly check-ins for bookkeeping, tax planning, or financial reporting. Discuss your needs upfront to establish a meeting schedule that aligns with your financial goals.

Can a CPA help with both personal and business finances?

Yes, many CPAs handle both, but confirm their expertise in both areas. Ask about their experience managing personal taxes and business accounting simultaneously. Ensure they can balance both without compromising attention to your specific financial needs.

What should I do if I’m not satisfied with my CPA?

Discuss concerns directly with your CPA to resolve issues. If unresolved, check your contract for termination terms. Seek a new CPA by researching reviews, credentials, and referrals. Request your financial records to ensure a smooth transition to a new professional.
