I can not say enough good thing about this firm. This is the first year that I have filed a return with a Schedule C. Every time I call, Erica is always so patient and helpful. And I have called a lot this year. She even emailed me a Tax Organizer to help me gather my things and calculate expenses on. Then when everything was finished, everything was put in this cute blue folder with my return and a pocket for my original documents. Everyone was so sweet and professional that I feel like I made new friends.
MUST READ-I was a customer for 10 years-called and talked to Erica to find out if 2 documents had been filed for previous tax years. Erica said no and we don?t have the documents. I told her I sent them both over in the private email link Barbara sent me. Erica said they are not here. I said I don?t understand what happened since I had paid to have them filed and now, I may have fees or penalties since they weren?t. I spent the weekend gathering the info again and emailed them over. I called to follow up Mo
Extremely impressed by my experience with Barb. Very professional, quickly able to grasp the complexity of my business, and fast in turn around! I have already referred my family to Barb for the upcoming years. Barb took the time to sit down with me to review my final return which was incredibly helpful. Thanks Barb and team!
It was my first year filing my taxes with Barbara Sage and it was by far the most professional and friendly setting. They made me feel like I was a long time friend. And Ericka was extremely helpful and welcoming. Awesome customer service.
Barbara and her team have done my complicated taxes for several years in a row. I always feel confident that they've been thorough and explained every aspect of my return. Great to see how much they've expanded in the past year...you can't grow without offering great service and expertise!
First year filing taxes, very intimated but she helped me figure it all out, 10/10 would file again. Erika was also very lovely to work with
My Wife and I have placed our TOTAL trust in the competence of Barbara Sage for many years. Her tireless efforts of providing exemplary service for our family?s best interest is appreciated...and is a blessing. I would HIGHLY recommend Barbara Sage and her esteemed Tax Service. Vic Quinton
Barbara is great. She?s been doing my taxes for a number of years now and she?s always accurate and informative, with reasonable rates. I highly recommend her.
Barb and the crew have been taking care of my personal and business taxes for years. Any questions I have had have been answered promptly, usually by Barb herself. Her fees are straight forward with no surprises.
If your life is already so organized that you don?t need any professional help, this is the CPA for you. They may be the only accounting firm in Austin that closes promptly at five o?clock the day before a tax deadline. That?s because they have their lives organized, and not around your tax filing needs. They?re proud of it, too. What?s your problem?
They are amazing. I had corporate, personal and amendments to previous years. They quickly and professionally prepared current year and corrected past returns. Service was second to none. Thanks Barbara and Russel.
Barbara Sage and her staff were thorough and quick with our year end statements and tax returns for business and personal.
I don?t know what I would do without Barbara?s expertise & care! Her office staff are friendly & the space feels comforting, even though dealing with taxes can be stressful.
Mr. Rusell is very nice and friendly, he is so patiently to listen my 2019 income tax problems and answered very professional. Thank you so much Mr. Rusell.

Look for a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license, which ensures they’ve passed rigorous exams and meet state requirements. Check for relevant experience in your industry, additional certifications like CFA or CMA, and membership in professional organizations like the AICPA. Verify their credentials through state licensing boards.
Use online directories like the AICPA, CPAverify, or state CPA societies. Search platforms like Yelp or Google for local CPAs with reviews. Ask for referrals from business associates, friends, or financial advisors. Local chambers of commerce can also provide recommendations.
A CPA is a licensed professional who has passed the CPA exam and met state requirements for education and experience. An accountant may lack this certification and could have varying levels of expertise. For complex tasks like tax audits or financial reporting, a CPA is typically more qualified.
Ask about their experience with your specific financial needs, such as tax preparation, small business accounting, or estate planning. Review their website or LinkedIn for case studies or client testimonials. Inquire about their client base to ensure they handle similar financial situations.
Yes, reviews provide insight into a CPA’s reliability, communication, and performance. Check platforms like Google, Yelp, or the Better Business Bureau for client feedback. Look for patterns in reviews, but verify their authenticity, as some may be biased or outdated.
Visit your state’s Board of Accountancy website or use CPAverify.org to check a CPA’s license status. Confirm their license is active and check for any disciplinary actions or complaints. This ensures they’re in good standing and meet professional standards.
Ask about their experience with your financial needs, fee structure, availability, and communication style. Inquire how they handle tax filings, audits, or financial planning. Ask for references or examples of similar work to assess their expertise and fit.
Fees vary based on location, services, and complexity. Basic tax preparation may cost $150-$500, while business accounting or audits can range from $1,000 to $10,000+. Request a detailed fee structure upfront and compare quotes from multiple CPAs.
Yes, many CPAs offer remote services through secure online platforms for document sharing and virtual consultations. Ensure they use encrypted tools for data security. Remote CPAs can be effective if they understand your local tax laws or business regulations.
During consultations, evaluate their ability to explain complex financial concepts clearly. Ask sample questions about taxes or financial strategies and note their responsiveness and clarity. Good communication ensures you understand their advice and fosters a productive relationship.
Beware of CPAs who guarantee specific tax refunds, lack a valid license, or have disciplinary actions on record. Avoid those with poor communication, vague fee structures, or negative reviews highlighting unethical behavior. Always verify their credentials independently.
Large firms offer more resources and specialized teams but may charge higher fees. Solo practitioners often provide personalized service and lower costs but may have limited availability. Choose based on your needs, budget, and preference for personalized attention.
For individuals, annual meetings for tax preparation may suffice. Businesses may need quarterly or monthly check-ins for bookkeeping, tax planning, or financial reporting. Discuss your needs upfront to establish a meeting schedule that aligns with your financial goals.
Yes, many CPAs handle both, but confirm their expertise in both areas. Ask about their experience managing personal taxes and business accounting simultaneously. Ensure they can balance both without compromising attention to your specific financial needs.
Discuss concerns directly with your CPA to resolve issues. If unresolved, check your contract for termination terms. Seek a new CPA by researching reviews, credentials, and referrals. Request your financial records to ensure a smooth transition to a new professional.
