Looking for a knowledgeable tax professional who actually cares about their clients finances? Look no further. I've been relying on Philip to handle my tax returns for over a decade. From my time as a waitress dealing with the complexities of tips to having my own small business and being 1099ed, through college, and now as an attorney with bonuses and hefty student loans, Philip has consistently provided exceptional service. He's always responsive to my questions (even when it is not tax season) and takes
Black Ink Industries and Phillip Shipman have been doing my taxes for five years. Phillip is an outstanding Agent. Phillip is professional, knowledgeable, personable, very thorough, honest and is up to date on all the Tax laws. Phillip takes care when preparing his clients taxes and then takes the time to explain everything he did, during the tax preparation process. I found Phillip and the team at Black Ink Industries from a recommendation on the Dave Ramsey website, "Ramsey Solutions". Black Ink Indus
So very pleased with our tax returns. We?ve been going to Phillip Shipman for 4 years now and each year has been a great experience. Philip is professional, knowledgeable, personable and and expert in his field. My husband and I plan to be customers every year. Thank you Phillip ??
It's been a pleasure to be a part of Black Ink Industries for my tax needs. They have been amazing in their assistance with my financial success. I could not be happier with their service. Personally, I've been fortunate enough to have Phillip Shipman as my contact. He is knowledgeable and willing to help and assist. Thank you Black Ink Industries for all you do.
I highly recommend the team at Black Ink Industries. They are extremely thorough in preparing your taxes (as one should be!) and they find every way to maximize your tax return. I fully thought I was going to owe taxes for 2020 due to an employment change (thank you pandemic), but Philip worked his magic and I actually ended up with a sizable return! I could not be more grateful to have found such an amazing company and I will definitely be using them for years to come.
Will not be using Philip or Black inc industries again. Once Philip and Black inc got our business and payment he suddenly becomes unavailable and does not answer phone calls nor emails regarding the filed taxes. Also he told me I could not include the child and dependent care credit on my taxes because I could not get my BABY sitters social security number. However the IRS specifically states on their website and by phone that you are still allowed to include the child and dependent care credit on your tax
Excellent and detailed service was provided by Philip Shipman this year for my tax preparation. As a Dave Ramsey ELP member Philip from Black Ink Industries, Inc. has a teacher's heart. He was very detailed and shared his work with me every step of the way in this years tax prep. Philip was prompt in returning all calls or email regarding next years tax prep also. Thank You Philip Shipman I appreciate your services!
Great first time experience with Phillip at Black Ink Industries. Conveniently uploaded docs through their client portal ahead of time and Phillip was prepared with the info before our appt. It made our appt fast and efficient. Phillip was very personable and explained things in detail. Left feeling confident and pleased with our experience.

Being fairly new to being self employed, Black Ink helped me in preparing my taxes properly. They are very knowledgeable about all things taxes, tax laws, and procedures to handle any business. I can message them any time about any question I have and I get a reply in no time. I look forward to continuing my business with them.
Great experience, Phillip was super informative, and most importantly knowledgeable. Made my taxes go smooth and provided excellent strategies on tax preparation.
Jennifer has done more than prepare my taxes. She has molded the foundation of my entire company. She has gone above and beyond her role and has caught crutial errors previous accounts have made. I?m so grateful to have found someone that takes pride in doing things the right way.

Look for a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license, which ensures they’ve passed rigorous exams and meet state requirements. Check for relevant experience in your industry, additional certifications like CFA or CMA, and membership in professional organizations like the AICPA. Verify their credentials through state licensing boards.
Use online directories like the AICPA, CPAverify, or state CPA societies. Search platforms like Yelp or Google for local CPAs with reviews. Ask for referrals from business associates, friends, or financial advisors. Local chambers of commerce can also provide recommendations.
A CPA is a licensed professional who has passed the CPA exam and met state requirements for education and experience. An accountant may lack this certification and could have varying levels of expertise. For complex tasks like tax audits or financial reporting, a CPA is typically more qualified.
Ask about their experience with your specific financial needs, such as tax preparation, small business accounting, or estate planning. Review their website or LinkedIn for case studies or client testimonials. Inquire about their client base to ensure they handle similar financial situations.
Yes, reviews provide insight into a CPA’s reliability, communication, and performance. Check platforms like Google, Yelp, or the Better Business Bureau for client feedback. Look for patterns in reviews, but verify their authenticity, as some may be biased or outdated.
Visit your state’s Board of Accountancy website or use CPAverify.org to check a CPA’s license status. Confirm their license is active and check for any disciplinary actions or complaints. This ensures they’re in good standing and meet professional standards.
Ask about their experience with your financial needs, fee structure, availability, and communication style. Inquire how they handle tax filings, audits, or financial planning. Ask for references or examples of similar work to assess their expertise and fit.
Fees vary based on location, services, and complexity. Basic tax preparation may cost $150-$500, while business accounting or audits can range from $1,000 to $10,000+. Request a detailed fee structure upfront and compare quotes from multiple CPAs.
Yes, many CPAs offer remote services through secure online platforms for document sharing and virtual consultations. Ensure they use encrypted tools for data security. Remote CPAs can be effective if they understand your local tax laws or business regulations.
During consultations, evaluate their ability to explain complex financial concepts clearly. Ask sample questions about taxes or financial strategies and note their responsiveness and clarity. Good communication ensures you understand their advice and fosters a productive relationship.
Beware of CPAs who guarantee specific tax refunds, lack a valid license, or have disciplinary actions on record. Avoid those with poor communication, vague fee structures, or negative reviews highlighting unethical behavior. Always verify their credentials independently.
Large firms offer more resources and specialized teams but may charge higher fees. Solo practitioners often provide personalized service and lower costs but may have limited availability. Choose based on your needs, budget, and preference for personalized attention.
For individuals, annual meetings for tax preparation may suffice. Businesses may need quarterly or monthly check-ins for bookkeeping, tax planning, or financial reporting. Discuss your needs upfront to establish a meeting schedule that aligns with your financial goals.
Yes, many CPAs handle both, but confirm their expertise in both areas. Ask about their experience managing personal taxes and business accounting simultaneously. Ensure they can balance both without compromising attention to your specific financial needs.
Discuss concerns directly with your CPA to resolve issues. If unresolved, check your contract for termination terms. Seek a new CPA by researching reviews, credentials, and referrals. Request your financial records to ensure a smooth transition to a new professional.
