Customer Reviews

Great team and an excellent experience! Reginald was very helpful with a recent project. Bob is always on top of things! Crystal and Wade also go a great job... Thanks for having a great team!

::UPDATE:: Both prior to my review AND following Blankenship?s response to my review, we were in contact with the office and communicated in detail our frustrations, what still needed to be completed, etc. They continued to make empty promises and NEVER fixed our issues - or, from our perspective, even put any effort towards fixing their mistakes. We have been fined and penalized due to the mistakes of this office and Scott. ALL this from what should have been a very simple filing of personal and new small

I have been a client of Blankenship CPA Group for about twenty years and have enjoyed working with Joey West for ten of those. To say that I am extremely satisfied with the professional service Joey provides is an understatement and does not come close to expressing my appreciation for the high quality of his work. I never worry about the various tax law changes and requirements since Joey stays up to date on the current tax environment and files the necessary information in a timely manner. When my tax

I have never experienced a more unprofessional, uncaring, and untruthful experience as I did with this company. For three years they literally did 11(eleven) hours of billing with a $9k retainer and it cost me over $850,000 in tax, fees and fines. I am still fighting this problem. I have never been treated like I was at this firm. Zero communication without repeatedly calling, emailing and files gone untouched. I was also yelled at (yelled at!?) for simply asking to change the accountant assigned to me beca

Joey West and his team at Blankenship CPA group have always been the best to work with. Joey is prompt and is very clear and his explanations on our tax issues. I highly recommend he and his team for any of your tax needs. I have worked with Joey for over 20 years and he is the best at what he does!

Joey West at Blankenship C.P.A. Group has been my accountant for approximately 10 years. The entire team at Blankenship is very knowledgeable and thorough in preparing our tax returns. We recently engaged Joey and team on tax consulting services for a new business where they again exceeded expectations. Highly recommend Joey and the team at Blankenship!

First time using Blankenship CPA firm. Extremely disappointed in my "assigned" CPA, Scott Felts. I initiated contact, and had to intiate any contact the remainder of our relationship. We never met face to face. I was never asked any questions. I was sent my tax return, accepted it (without any conference or explanation from him), and then promptly sent a bill for $675.00 for his service. We were shocked!!! So disappointed in this Dave Ramsey referral. After posting this, the client care part of Blankens

This was the first year I used the Blankenship CPA group and it was a great experience! Scott Felts handled everything very professionally throughout the entire process. He was extremely detailed and diligent in his work and responses. I really appreciated him being willing to educate me along the way as well! I highly recommend!

Joey West at Blankenship C.P.A. Group has been my accountant for approximately 15 years. I am now a retired Hospital CEO and utilized Joey?s service while was working as a CEO. He is very knowledgeable, ?up to date?, and very thorough in preparing our tax returns. Lastly, he is very kind and caring and offers excellent advice.

After a not so pleasant experience with a previous firm, our not for profit organization used Blankenship to do our required annual audits. We were in a bit of a bind and what we had to pull off in a short amount of time was going to be challenging, to say the least. Simply said, Blankenship was amazing. They communicated with us continually so that we clearly understood what they needed and why it was important. They were responsive to our questions which allowed the work flow to continually progress. W

Great organization that has handled our business accounting needs and consulting and personal tax for 12 years. Always responsive and helpful and patient. CJ has helped with strategy early on for the business and Joey and Tonya have managed our taxes and accounting needs since then. Always a great experience and very good service.

I have been using Blankenship CPA Group for decades for business and personal accounting and taxes. I have been very pleased with the work they have done for me and their professionalism.

Joey West has been a huge help to me over the last decade of doing my taxes. He is very responsive, accurate, and helpful, suggesting to me along the way what I need to do or look for. I highly commend him to you if you are looking for someone to give you a hand during tax season!

Came here last year on a recommendation from one of their current clients. Met with a gentleman in Brentwood office and explained I was looking not just for tax return completed but advice and potential strategy to help lower tax bill. Communication with my CPA was lacking (had to follow up repeatedly) and received no feedback or advice. Also, I had to ask for my paper work back three times before it was mailed. All for $800. Double what I had paid for H&R Block the year before.

They tried to blindside me with outrageous fees (over 3x my normal rate and I've been with the better part of a decade). I emailed them multiple times and didn't even receive a response until almost a year later when they started calling me asking for payment. We finally agreed on a lesser amount, but I received another invoice for the original amount. Then received another call asking for twice as much as the agreed amount from the previous call. The level [or rather, the lack] of professionalism and commu

Extremely poor service and an overall very bad experience in my first year using Blankenship. I consistently had to email Scott Phelps multiple times before he ever responded to me. He still hasn't responded to multiple emails I sent him with the last one I sent that he did not respond to in October (it is now December). They made multiple errors on my return. They advised me to send checks to the IRS and then they drafted the required payments out of my account so I ended up 2 quarters having double pa

Our nonprofit has been working with Blankenship for over 4 years and their service and attention to detail are top notch. A special shot out to Tonya Hazel-Loewen and Scott Felts. True professionals that are a pleasure to work with!

Royce Rhea and Blankenship CPA Group is an Accounting Firm I would recommend to any Small Business Owner. I have sent multiple clients to Royce in the 10 years I have known him and the feedback is always the same. Outstanding!!!

Royce Rhea is my CPA at Blankenship CPA's and he is fabulous. We have used his services for over 10 years because he is so knowledgeable and helpful with all our tax needs and issues. Just today, he spent over an hour with me and my husband on the phone with the IRS to see what was going on with these bad letters we were receiving from the IRS. His colleague, Nancy, also spent time on the phone with me, listened carefully as I descibed our issue, and gathered our information to discuss with Royce. We were c

I have enjoyed a very positive experience with Blankenship. Their technical expertise and quality of deliverables is as good as any in Middle Tennessee. And their attention to relationships and sincere care for employees and clients and their businesses is refreshing.

Blankenship CPA Group is extremely professional, helpful, and excellent at what they do. It's been a joy to work with them over the years and I look forward to the continued relationship.

Professional, expertise and they treat you like family! We feel very secure and confident with letting Alan Siliski and Wayne Wells handle our tax matters. Great people! We highly recommend!

Frequently Asked Questions

What qualifications should I look for in a CPA?

Look for a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license, which ensures they’ve passed rigorous exams and meet state requirements. Check for relevant experience in your industry, additional certifications like CFA or CMA, and membership in professional organizations like the AICPA. Verify their credentials through state licensing boards.

How do I find a CPA in my area?

Use online directories like the AICPA, CPAverify, or state CPA societies. Search platforms like Yelp or Google for local CPAs with reviews. Ask for referrals from business associates, friends, or financial advisors. Local chambers of commerce can also provide recommendations.

What’s the difference between a CPA and an accountant?

A CPA is a licensed professional who has passed the CPA exam and met state requirements for education and experience. An accountant may lack this certification and could have varying levels of expertise. For complex tasks like tax audits or financial reporting, a CPA is typically more qualified.

How do I know if a CPA specializes in my needs?

Ask about their experience with your specific financial needs, such as tax preparation, small business accounting, or estate planning. Review their website or LinkedIn for case studies or client testimonials. Inquire about their client base to ensure they handle similar financial situations.

Should I check a CPA’s reviews before hiring?

Yes, reviews provide insight into a CPA’s reliability, communication, and performance. Check platforms like Google, Yelp, or the Better Business Bureau for client feedback. Look for patterns in reviews, but verify their authenticity, as some may be biased or outdated.

How can I verify a CPA’s license?

Visit your state’s Board of Accountancy website or use CPAverify.org to check a CPA’s license status. Confirm their license is active and check for any disciplinary actions or complaints. This ensures they’re in good standing and meet professional standards.

What questions should I ask during a CPA consultation?

Ask about their experience with your financial needs, fee structure, availability, and communication style. Inquire how they handle tax filings, audits, or financial planning. Ask for references or examples of similar work to assess their expertise and fit.

How much should I expect to pay for a CPA’s services?

Fees vary based on location, services, and complexity. Basic tax preparation may cost $150-$500, while business accounting or audits can range from $1,000 to $10,000+. Request a detailed fee structure upfront and compare quotes from multiple CPAs.

Can I work with a CPA remotely?

Yes, many CPAs offer remote services through secure online platforms for document sharing and virtual consultations. Ensure they use encrypted tools for data security. Remote CPAs can be effective if they understand your local tax laws or business regulations.

How do I assess a CPA’s communication skills?

During consultations, evaluate their ability to explain complex financial concepts clearly. Ask sample questions about taxes or financial strategies and note their responsiveness and clarity. Good communication ensures you understand their advice and fosters a productive relationship.

What red flags should I watch for when screening a CPA?

Beware of CPAs who guarantee specific tax refunds, lack a valid license, or have disciplinary actions on record. Avoid those with poor communication, vague fee structures, or negative reviews highlighting unethical behavior. Always verify their credentials independently.

Should I choose a CPA from a large firm or a solo practitioner?

Large firms offer more resources and specialized teams but may charge higher fees. Solo practitioners often provide personalized service and lower costs but may have limited availability. Choose based on your needs, budget, and preference for personalized attention.

How often should I meet with my CPA?

For individuals, annual meetings for tax preparation may suffice. Businesses may need quarterly or monthly check-ins for bookkeeping, tax planning, or financial reporting. Discuss your needs upfront to establish a meeting schedule that aligns with your financial goals.

Can a CPA help with both personal and business finances?

Yes, many CPAs handle both, but confirm their expertise in both areas. Ask about their experience managing personal taxes and business accounting simultaneously. Ensure they can balance both without compromising attention to your specific financial needs.

What should I do if I’m not satisfied with my CPA?

Discuss concerns directly with your CPA to resolve issues. If unresolved, check your contract for termination terms. Seek a new CPA by researching reviews, credentials, and referrals. Request your financial records to ensure a smooth transition to a new professional.
