I would recommend highly. My mom sold her home in S.Fla and also gifted some monies. Since the house was built in early 70?s records were scarce and Garrett went above and beyond? searching records and values to help her on taxes/monies owed. We believe he really did a great job, keeping us informed along the way!
Janine was very professional and easy to work with. It is very easy to communicate with anyone over there.
I had a question, regarding my taxes. The front desk was incredibly rude. I could not even ask my question. I felt insulted. I have been filing my taxes here for years, and I have no intention of returning. Horrible customer service.
As a small business owner, Janine has helped me tremendously to understand how to better navigate my business so that I am making more informed financial/ tax planning and decisions. Everyone at the office is friendly, helpful and knowledgable. Having a great CPA is vital to the success of any business and I am thankful to be part of the BRD family.
Using BRD was a late decision and they certainly came through for me. I do not know if what they did for me was outside the norm, but I can say that the fee was significantly higher than I've had to pay before to ther firms. Overall they did excellent work! No complaints and I'll go back next year!
We have had a fantastic experience with BRD Valdosta taking care of our taxes. Kitty at the front desk is friendly and professional and our advisor Johnny Dukes is very knowledgeable and timely. I work for the Boy Scouts and Johnny is always available to answer questions that we have as a Scout Council. Highly recommend.
Sincerely so thankful for the support that Brandon, Rackley & Dukes (BRD) in Valdosta has provided for our organization. As a nonprofit, we are able to focus on what we do best and rest assured that our CPA?s office is handling the vital details we were struggling to maintain with a small staff. We provide the necessary information to their office to pay invoices and bills digitally, and they handle the process, including monthly account reconciliation and financial reports. I can?t say enough about how muc
I have multiple challenges with my annual tax returns. I live overseas, have a non-US spouse and I have a very diversified investment strategy, including charitable trusts. I used to use 'that large US firm', and - to be fair - I was happy with them, but my situation got to the point where they said my return was too hard. I am totally happy and confident with the personal professional service that I receive from BRD Valdosta.
Not gonna lie - we need Johnny Dukes back - he would by our 5 star
We have had nothing but compassionate and professional experiences with everyone at BRD. We use them for our personal taxes and two LLC?s. The staff has been a hugh help as we transitioned from out of state and through an estate settlement. Highly recommend!
Excellent work and their fees seem very reasonable.
John Dukes has been preparing my personal taxes since appx 1995 up until today. Perhaps 27 years of repeat business speaks for a 5 star review. John and staff are thorough, professional, friendly, patient (when I wait until the last week(s).
The Brandon, Rackley and Dukes CPA firm is top notch! For many years, Johnny Dukes has not only handled my tax returns but assisted me in making important financial decisions. From real estate transactions and annual bonuses to estate and gift planning, he and the BRD team have been with me all the way. I trust them to advise me in all aspects of my financial needs.
The Burton Fletcher Foundation for Animals is one of many happy 501 (c)(3) nonprofits to hire the tax and advisory services of Mr. John Dukes, CPA, and the Brandon, Rackley & Dukes accounting firm. This firm is well established, connected, and well-respected. I have never given any group of professionals a higher rating. A+++++ Prof. Burton Fletcher, JD, MBA (Ret.) President, Burton Fletcher Foundation for Animals, Inc.
We have been clients of BRD for 15 years. It's a great feeling to have a CPA you can count on to keep you up to date on all the latest tax laws and regs. We know we can pick up the phone with a question and get an almost immediate response. Having recently retired, we've had lots of questions! Good to know someone is looking out for our best interests.
I have been a customer of BRD for years, and it all comes down to the people! Janine Pendleton is a fantastic CPA who always takes the time to answer my questions not only quickly, but completely. I've come to her with some complex situations over the years, but there's never been anything she hasn't been able to handle. Special thank you to Kristyna and Kitty as well, they've absolutely gone above and beyond to help me in a jam!
Thank you BRD and Mr. Allen for providing us with assurance that our tax preparation was completed with thorough attention to detail. It gives us peace knowing that we are in great hands with professionals that are knowledgeable of the tax laws and responsibilities.
Johnny Dukes and his colleagues have been taking care of my family?s businesses and taxes for 15 years now. We are treated like family and we can rest assured knowing that our financial needs are being taken care by knowledgeable professionals.
Moved to Valdosta last year after I retired. My real estate agent recommended Janine Pendleton to me. Best advice I?ve ever gotten.

Janine is outstanding.
Look for a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license, which ensures they’ve passed rigorous exams and meet state requirements. Check for relevant experience in your industry, additional certifications like CFA or CMA, and membership in professional organizations like the AICPA. Verify their credentials through state licensing boards.
Use online directories like the AICPA, CPAverify, or state CPA societies. Search platforms like Yelp or Google for local CPAs with reviews. Ask for referrals from business associates, friends, or financial advisors. Local chambers of commerce can also provide recommendations.
A CPA is a licensed professional who has passed the CPA exam and met state requirements for education and experience. An accountant may lack this certification and could have varying levels of expertise. For complex tasks like tax audits or financial reporting, a CPA is typically more qualified.
Ask about their experience with your specific financial needs, such as tax preparation, small business accounting, or estate planning. Review their website or LinkedIn for case studies or client testimonials. Inquire about their client base to ensure they handle similar financial situations.
Yes, reviews provide insight into a CPA’s reliability, communication, and performance. Check platforms like Google, Yelp, or the Better Business Bureau for client feedback. Look for patterns in reviews, but verify their authenticity, as some may be biased or outdated.
Visit your state’s Board of Accountancy website or use CPAverify.org to check a CPA’s license status. Confirm their license is active and check for any disciplinary actions or complaints. This ensures they’re in good standing and meet professional standards.
Ask about their experience with your financial needs, fee structure, availability, and communication style. Inquire how they handle tax filings, audits, or financial planning. Ask for references or examples of similar work to assess their expertise and fit.
Fees vary based on location, services, and complexity. Basic tax preparation may cost $150-$500, while business accounting or audits can range from $1,000 to $10,000+. Request a detailed fee structure upfront and compare quotes from multiple CPAs.
Yes, many CPAs offer remote services through secure online platforms for document sharing and virtual consultations. Ensure they use encrypted tools for data security. Remote CPAs can be effective if they understand your local tax laws or business regulations.
During consultations, evaluate their ability to explain complex financial concepts clearly. Ask sample questions about taxes or financial strategies and note their responsiveness and clarity. Good communication ensures you understand their advice and fosters a productive relationship.
Beware of CPAs who guarantee specific tax refunds, lack a valid license, or have disciplinary actions on record. Avoid those with poor communication, vague fee structures, or negative reviews highlighting unethical behavior. Always verify their credentials independently.
Large firms offer more resources and specialized teams but may charge higher fees. Solo practitioners often provide personalized service and lower costs but may have limited availability. Choose based on your needs, budget, and preference for personalized attention.
For individuals, annual meetings for tax preparation may suffice. Businesses may need quarterly or monthly check-ins for bookkeeping, tax planning, or financial reporting. Discuss your needs upfront to establish a meeting schedule that aligns with your financial goals.
Yes, many CPAs handle both, but confirm their expertise in both areas. Ask about their experience managing personal taxes and business accounting simultaneously. Ensure they can balance both without compromising attention to your specific financial needs.
Discuss concerns directly with your CPA to resolve issues. If unresolved, check your contract for termination terms. Seek a new CPA by researching reviews, credentials, and referrals. Request your financial records to ensure a smooth transition to a new professional.
