Worst experience ever. I would not recommend them to anyone for any service. Judge for yourself: CVA did our taxes for two years. Our accountant was Bryan. He didn't listen to our needs & rarely communicated in a timely manner. He went on vacation when our taxes were due the first year & didn't check in before leaving to let us know they were done (we called to find out the status & get a copy of them). The second year, he & his office could not tell us if they had filed our taxes after we had signed them,

We unfortunately had to switch to a new firm. We like to sit and see our accountant, but they've gone to all drop off and pick up when ready. We don't need a visit each time just the first time. I wish they had the help or they would make time for their clients. It's really quite unfortunate.

It took this accounting firm 1 1/2 months to complete my 2022 business and personal tax return. Bryan was supposed to be the one doing our tax returns but found out he just looks them over he does not actually complete them. Their fee has increased by $400 in the last couple of years. They are going for quantity not quality. I would not use them again. They are extremely expensive and do not complete the return in a timely manner.

I had searched high and low for help when the IRS said I owed them for back taxes on an inheritance that I entirely rolled over into a retirement account, but that the IRS was counting as income. The guy who initially did my taxes for that year kept having me do ALL the footwork with the IRS and didn't have a CLUE why the IRS said I owed it. My financial advisor was a little help in at least getting a faxed copy of the check that went from the inheritance fund DIRECTLY into a retirement account, but other

Horrible experience at this CPA office. The company spent months trying to fix my books which still to this date don't match our quickbooks. In addition, their CPA never delivered our sales tax to the state as he promised via email. When I emailed them repeatedly about this, I got no answer for weeks. When I finally approached the business owner; I got an email contradicting what was told to us by the CPA Bryan he hired to do our taxes. We were able to have two productive meetings where I had to DRAG the

As a Business Owner of a small size business using Xero as our Accounting System I strongly recommend working with Carson Valley Accounting, LLC. and specifically working with Chris Foxcroft-Hibbs. Chris provide an outstanding service, above and beyond anything I have seen over the past 10 years working with several accounting firms. All of us at Seagull Institute appreciate his professionalism, advice and personality. I highly recommend working with Carson Valley Accounting, LLC.

CVA was so helpful and patient with me as a new customer. Took a lot of time, effort and handholding to get three years of my taxes straightened out. They took my piles of files, organized them, and got me squared away so I could start fresh. This years taxes just flew by painlessly and quickly. No more worrying for me because I know CVA is on top of everything so I don't have to be.

Drew and the crew are the best, most friendly, always available tax, business and life consultants I've ever used in personal or business dealings. I have to say Drew and this office through CVAccounting has truly become a part of our family and I really can't imagine not having them throughout the year!

I had spent numerous hours filling out the application for the first PPP loan. I also had questions about filling out the loan forgiveness application. Not only did Chris at CVA answer my questions, but he also filed my loan forgiveness application and filled out a PPP2 application in about 45 minutes while I was sitting in front of him. They were both completed and filed electronically. He is definitely a PPP expert. I can't tell you how many hours of frustration this saved me. He uploaded documents

Bryan has done three years of IRS tax returns for my wife and I. We have been extremely pleased with his work. Highly recommend Carson Valley Accounting.

Carson Valley Accounting is an excellent accounting firm. Drew Aguilar and his team will always look out for your best interests! I recommend this firm highly.

BEWARE!! DO NOT USE THEM!!! Less than one star! They have had all our tax documents and have done nothing with it, never even filed extensions or anything and the OWNER could care less!! It's been almost 8 months!! Like HOW are they still in business?!!

I had an out of the ordinary situation needing certification by a CPA. Drew took the time to understand, resolved the issue quickly, and was very easy to work with.

As a whole, the office was welcoming and friendly. Very professional. They were willing to accommodate, educate, and still add a personal touch. I look forward to continuing to use them

Much more personable than the place I used in Tracy for years. However; with this social distancing was not able to set down with the rep to discuss other write offs.

Responsive, good value, highly professional. Congenial and efficient. Helps with tax prep and future planning. Highly recommend.

Drew and the entire staff at Carson Valley Accounting are true professionals who are knowledgeable, courteous, and proficient.

The entire staff at CVA is incredibly knowledgeable, courteous and ready to answer all of my questions !

A great experience and they were able to help with my accounting needs!

CVA is the bench mark for accounting services!

Frequently Asked Questions

What qualifications should I look for in a CPA?

Look for a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license, which ensures they’ve passed rigorous exams and meet state requirements. Check for relevant experience in your industry, additional certifications like CFA or CMA, and membership in professional organizations like the AICPA. Verify their credentials through state licensing boards.

How do I find a CPA in my area?

Use online directories like the AICPA, CPAverify, or state CPA societies. Search platforms like Yelp or Google for local CPAs with reviews. Ask for referrals from business associates, friends, or financial advisors. Local chambers of commerce can also provide recommendations.

What’s the difference between a CPA and an accountant?

A CPA is a licensed professional who has passed the CPA exam and met state requirements for education and experience. An accountant may lack this certification and could have varying levels of expertise. For complex tasks like tax audits or financial reporting, a CPA is typically more qualified.

How do I know if a CPA specializes in my needs?

Ask about their experience with your specific financial needs, such as tax preparation, small business accounting, or estate planning. Review their website or LinkedIn for case studies or client testimonials. Inquire about their client base to ensure they handle similar financial situations.

Should I check a CPA’s reviews before hiring?

Yes, reviews provide insight into a CPA’s reliability, communication, and performance. Check platforms like Google, Yelp, or the Better Business Bureau for client feedback. Look for patterns in reviews, but verify their authenticity, as some may be biased or outdated.

How can I verify a CPA’s license?

Visit your state’s Board of Accountancy website or use CPAverify.org to check a CPA’s license status. Confirm their license is active and check for any disciplinary actions or complaints. This ensures they’re in good standing and meet professional standards.

What questions should I ask during a CPA consultation?

Ask about their experience with your financial needs, fee structure, availability, and communication style. Inquire how they handle tax filings, audits, or financial planning. Ask for references or examples of similar work to assess their expertise and fit.

How much should I expect to pay for a CPA’s services?

Fees vary based on location, services, and complexity. Basic tax preparation may cost $150-$500, while business accounting or audits can range from $1,000 to $10,000+. Request a detailed fee structure upfront and compare quotes from multiple CPAs.

Can I work with a CPA remotely?

Yes, many CPAs offer remote services through secure online platforms for document sharing and virtual consultations. Ensure they use encrypted tools for data security. Remote CPAs can be effective if they understand your local tax laws or business regulations.

How do I assess a CPA’s communication skills?

During consultations, evaluate their ability to explain complex financial concepts clearly. Ask sample questions about taxes or financial strategies and note their responsiveness and clarity. Good communication ensures you understand their advice and fosters a productive relationship.

What red flags should I watch for when screening a CPA?

Beware of CPAs who guarantee specific tax refunds, lack a valid license, or have disciplinary actions on record. Avoid those with poor communication, vague fee structures, or negative reviews highlighting unethical behavior. Always verify their credentials independently.

Should I choose a CPA from a large firm or a solo practitioner?

Large firms offer more resources and specialized teams but may charge higher fees. Solo practitioners often provide personalized service and lower costs but may have limited availability. Choose based on your needs, budget, and preference for personalized attention.

How often should I meet with my CPA?

For individuals, annual meetings for tax preparation may suffice. Businesses may need quarterly or monthly check-ins for bookkeeping, tax planning, or financial reporting. Discuss your needs upfront to establish a meeting schedule that aligns with your financial goals.

Can a CPA help with both personal and business finances?

Yes, many CPAs handle both, but confirm their expertise in both areas. Ask about their experience managing personal taxes and business accounting simultaneously. Ensure they can balance both without compromising attention to your specific financial needs.

What should I do if I’m not satisfied with my CPA?

Discuss concerns directly with your CPA to resolve issues. If unresolved, check your contract for termination terms. Seek a new CPA by researching reviews, credentials, and referrals. Request your financial records to ensure a smooth transition to a new professional.
