Customer Reviews

Mark consistently delivers outstanding results. He possesses a high level of skill and has a network of connections that provide his clients, including us, with more options and ultimately better outcomes. Mark is a man of integrity, and my wife and I feel very fortunate to have him assist us in implementing effective tax strategies that are both understandable and backed by savings, benefiting our future investments. Thank you Mark!

Cultivate CPA was introduced to us by a trusted business associate. At that time, we had an issue with the IRS and possibly losing our nonprofit status as we were behind in our tax filings by three years. We felt lost and didn?t know how to proceed. Cultivate CPA helped us to get organized to file our taxes for those years bringing us into compliance with the IRS as well as keeping our nonprofit status active! Since that time, we have consulted with Mark and Andy over various tax and accounting issues. We

Mark and his team are incredibly proactive and professional. It is refreshing to work with a CPA who is on top of current tax strategies.

I engaged with the team at Cultivate CPA over a year ago and have been astounded not only how much they could save me on my taxes (my first year running a company in the US) but also their knowledge, care and advice that I have never experienced from a firm like this. To call them CPAs is unfair - they are more like your fractional Chief Financial Officer - getting ahead of the game not just reacting once the year is done.

I have worked with many accountants over the years. Mark is by far the best. He's not just good with accounting, but strangely enjoys it. He is high character, has a great sense of humor, and a really cool Aussie accent. He falls into that rare category of genius. He is able to study your unique business situation and propose solutions that greatly improve your model and your tax situation. I highly recommend Mark and his team.

Mark is trustworthy, competent, and extremely intelligent. He did our taxes for a nonprofit, a freelance business, and our personal tax return. The work was completed quickly and it was a pleasure to work with him! It is clear that Mark pursues excellence in every area of his life and is extremely diligent with the work he does. You definitely can't go wrong working with Sharman CPA.

I have enjoyed working closely with Mark on the accounting/bookkeeping side of things in our business office. I cannot express enough how much I appreciate him, his character, his thorough knowledge of his profession, and the underlying personal integrity which governs his life. He has patiently helped me find the answer to many hard questions. I would highly recommend him for all of your accounting needs.

Can?t speak highly enough of the Cultivate team! They have helped us with our taxes, business planning and tax planning for the past few years and I?m so glad we moved over to Cultivate CPA! Really great Accountants and offer professional and friendly help!

Mark Sharman has served me incredibly well through his various bookkeeping, accounting, and tax return preparation services for multiple businesses...for several years. Mark even found and corrected errors that occurred from when I was with a much larger (and more costly) CPA firm. His vast dept of knowledge, heart to serve, technological skill, clear communication, and impeccable integrity combine for a package that has helped me through many challenges in business, and enabled me to more effectively foc

Mark was incredibly responsive, and provided strategy and solutions that will help excel my financial future. I originally asked for his help with regards to a new partnership within our company, however, I look forward to using him for years to come. Thank you Mark!

Mark Sharman and his team have handled my business and personal taxes since 2013 there's no other accountant I trust more than Mark Sharman. Mark is a man of honesty, integrity, and good solid Christian morals and values!

Lived abroad (NL) for 6 years and then out of state for 2 years. Moved back to CO in 2020. Mark and his team understand international tax implications, and how to get your tax file aligned back to USA IRS norms. They made a highly complex transition a simple enjoyable process. Extremely good experience working with this company. Professional, knowledgable, timely, personable, complete, accurate and fairly priced for services provided. I write very few reviews, but felt compelled to share this positive experi

I have done business with Mark Sharman for approximately 10 years. He has never been anything but highly professional and ethical. His advice is accurate and helpful. I would highly recommend Mark to anyone looking for a a timely and professional result!

Mark is extremely knowledgeable and thorough, and most importantly gets the job done on time. Highly recommended.

Mark's packages provided the best value (accounting services at half the cost). In addition, I've seen Mark save clients several thousands of dollars in taxes by going over and above what is expected, and simply doing the right thing.

They do an odd, surface level vetting of potential new clients which in our case resulted in a rude automated message stating they don't feel we're big enough to take on as a client (the implication being they wouldn't be able to bill us heavily enough to be worth their time). I'm in the middle of a $6 million start up, I'm glad I didn't waste their time, not to mention mine. It's admittedly old fashioned, but here at our company, we believe good manners are priceless

I have a small businesses , Mark is been doing my taxes for about 7 years and I can say that he knows exactly what to do , very professional , always in top of every single detail , excellent work .

Great attention to detail, very knowledgeable, fast response time, and all done quickly. Mark and his team are friendly and want what?s best for you. Highly recommend.

Mark was very helpful with my different questions and problems that I had with taxes and running my small business.

Frequently Asked Questions

What qualifications should I look for in a CPA?

Look for a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license, which ensures they’ve passed rigorous exams and meet state requirements. Check for relevant experience in your industry, additional certifications like CFA or CMA, and membership in professional organizations like the AICPA. Verify their credentials through state licensing boards.

How do I find a CPA in my area?

Use online directories like the AICPA, CPAverify, or state CPA societies. Search platforms like Yelp or Google for local CPAs with reviews. Ask for referrals from business associates, friends, or financial advisors. Local chambers of commerce can also provide recommendations.

What’s the difference between a CPA and an accountant?

A CPA is a licensed professional who has passed the CPA exam and met state requirements for education and experience. An accountant may lack this certification and could have varying levels of expertise. For complex tasks like tax audits or financial reporting, a CPA is typically more qualified.

How do I know if a CPA specializes in my needs?

Ask about their experience with your specific financial needs, such as tax preparation, small business accounting, or estate planning. Review their website or LinkedIn for case studies or client testimonials. Inquire about their client base to ensure they handle similar financial situations.

Should I check a CPA’s reviews before hiring?

Yes, reviews provide insight into a CPA’s reliability, communication, and performance. Check platforms like Google, Yelp, or the Better Business Bureau for client feedback. Look for patterns in reviews, but verify their authenticity, as some may be biased or outdated.

How can I verify a CPA’s license?

Visit your state’s Board of Accountancy website or use CPAverify.org to check a CPA’s license status. Confirm their license is active and check for any disciplinary actions or complaints. This ensures they’re in good standing and meet professional standards.

What questions should I ask during a CPA consultation?

Ask about their experience with your financial needs, fee structure, availability, and communication style. Inquire how they handle tax filings, audits, or financial planning. Ask for references or examples of similar work to assess their expertise and fit.

How much should I expect to pay for a CPA’s services?

Fees vary based on location, services, and complexity. Basic tax preparation may cost $150-$500, while business accounting or audits can range from $1,000 to $10,000+. Request a detailed fee structure upfront and compare quotes from multiple CPAs.

Can I work with a CPA remotely?

Yes, many CPAs offer remote services through secure online platforms for document sharing and virtual consultations. Ensure they use encrypted tools for data security. Remote CPAs can be effective if they understand your local tax laws or business regulations.

How do I assess a CPA’s communication skills?

During consultations, evaluate their ability to explain complex financial concepts clearly. Ask sample questions about taxes or financial strategies and note their responsiveness and clarity. Good communication ensures you understand their advice and fosters a productive relationship.

What red flags should I watch for when screening a CPA?

Beware of CPAs who guarantee specific tax refunds, lack a valid license, or have disciplinary actions on record. Avoid those with poor communication, vague fee structures, or negative reviews highlighting unethical behavior. Always verify their credentials independently.

Should I choose a CPA from a large firm or a solo practitioner?

Large firms offer more resources and specialized teams but may charge higher fees. Solo practitioners often provide personalized service and lower costs but may have limited availability. Choose based on your needs, budget, and preference for personalized attention.

How often should I meet with my CPA?

For individuals, annual meetings for tax preparation may suffice. Businesses may need quarterly or monthly check-ins for bookkeeping, tax planning, or financial reporting. Discuss your needs upfront to establish a meeting schedule that aligns with your financial goals.

Can a CPA help with both personal and business finances?

Yes, many CPAs handle both, but confirm their expertise in both areas. Ask about their experience managing personal taxes and business accounting simultaneously. Ensure they can balance both without compromising attention to your specific financial needs.

What should I do if I’m not satisfied with my CPA?

Discuss concerns directly with your CPA to resolve issues. If unresolved, check your contract for termination terms. Seek a new CPA by researching reviews, credentials, and referrals. Request your financial records to ensure a smooth transition to a new professional.
