Potter & Company Accounting is my personal go to for all my accounting needs and services. Over the years I have used them for both business and personal tax preparation. Potter & Company delivers the most current up to date accounting standards and practices while maintaining that personal touch usually found at much smaller accounting firms. Dan Morrow CPA & Partner makes tax filings seem easy and routine. I really enjoy working with Dan, Sandy and the rest of the Potter & Company team, as they are very
Potter & Company has represented our firms for over 6 years and they are just fantastic. They provide phenomenal customer service and make sure to follow up on all of our requests. Dan Morrow has been our CPA for several years now. He is a consummate professional, would recommend him without reservations. He is very knowledgeable, extremely client-friendly and very well informed regarding anything tax-related. Over the years, Dan has assumed all our family's tax filings: individual, business and non-profit. He has done a great job and we continue to be one of his many happy clients.
I have been using Potter & Co. since I started my small business 12 years ago. They have been a lifesaver when it comes to helping me with my QuickBooks, I really appreciate their patience with my mistakes! They are always quick to respond whenever I need accounting assistance. I can't say enough good things about them!
This is a unique accounting firm/office in the best sense. My interactions with them go back 10 years. Nearly every single employee had been there for a minimum of 10 years prior to that and are still there now. I can't tell you how extraordinary a stat that is for a CPA firm. Not only do you get this consistency of staff but they're each great at what they do and even better people. They'll be there, do the work right, and you'll always be in good hands and know it. Truly model accountants and people.
Potter & Company are just what you need. They are polite and thorough. They don't make you feel inferior for not understanding the complex situation which is the US tax laws. Don't bother looking for another accounting firm. They are fantastic
Cindy and Dan are a dream to work with. They respond very timely to emails and phone calls. If you have a question/concern they will do the research to find out the best option for your business. I?m most grateful for the support they offer all year long!
Sam leader & Bucky are missed. He from the concord office & Bucky from the monroe office. They wouldn?t have run the office in concord like it is being run now. I?ve been a client since 1997. 2 years of no time for a small business, no questions on our taxes. Telling us we owe 10k without any questions, I required having a meeting & questioning an invoice I created & wasn?t sure about that ended up changing my taxes to getting $ back. If they had just asked in the first place (I gave a copy of this inv
In my 20 years of business I've had several accounting firms. For the last 7 years, and going forward, I've alway entrusted them to handle my taxes. I've sent several people there way and they've always been satisfied.
Friendly and cheerful, the Potter & Company team is always poised to exceed expectations and bring valuable advice and insights to their client relationships. Potter & Company is a firm of CPAs, Advisors and accountants who are true to their values and have made a commitment to delivering on a service promise that emphasizes experience, knowledge and trust.
We are a small business. We were dissatisfied with the service. It was apparent that we were not valued as a client, whether or not that is due to us being one of their smaller clients, I am unsure. When we expressed our dissatisfaction, the Managing Partner emailed back and indirectly insulted our business as being "cheap" and "poor" which is not the case in the least. Maybe this firm is better suited to larger businesses and especially due to the unprofessional reaction from the Managing Partner, smal
Really disappointing experience after being referred to them. I reached outultiple times via email once connecting with Cindy but then nothing after. I called today and was hung up on. I told the person that referred me and they where mortified. Bad way to run a business.

Look for a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license, which ensures they’ve passed rigorous exams and meet state requirements. Check for relevant experience in your industry, additional certifications like CFA or CMA, and membership in professional organizations like the AICPA. Verify their credentials through state licensing boards.
Use online directories like the AICPA, CPAverify, or state CPA societies. Search platforms like Yelp or Google for local CPAs with reviews. Ask for referrals from business associates, friends, or financial advisors. Local chambers of commerce can also provide recommendations.
A CPA is a licensed professional who has passed the CPA exam and met state requirements for education and experience. An accountant may lack this certification and could have varying levels of expertise. For complex tasks like tax audits or financial reporting, a CPA is typically more qualified.
Ask about their experience with your specific financial needs, such as tax preparation, small business accounting, or estate planning. Review their website or LinkedIn for case studies or client testimonials. Inquire about their client base to ensure they handle similar financial situations.
Yes, reviews provide insight into a CPA’s reliability, communication, and performance. Check platforms like Google, Yelp, or the Better Business Bureau for client feedback. Look for patterns in reviews, but verify their authenticity, as some may be biased or outdated.
Visit your state’s Board of Accountancy website or use CPAverify.org to check a CPA’s license status. Confirm their license is active and check for any disciplinary actions or complaints. This ensures they’re in good standing and meet professional standards.
Ask about their experience with your financial needs, fee structure, availability, and communication style. Inquire how they handle tax filings, audits, or financial planning. Ask for references or examples of similar work to assess their expertise and fit.
Fees vary based on location, services, and complexity. Basic tax preparation may cost $150-$500, while business accounting or audits can range from $1,000 to $10,000+. Request a detailed fee structure upfront and compare quotes from multiple CPAs.
Yes, many CPAs offer remote services through secure online platforms for document sharing and virtual consultations. Ensure they use encrypted tools for data security. Remote CPAs can be effective if they understand your local tax laws or business regulations.
During consultations, evaluate their ability to explain complex financial concepts clearly. Ask sample questions about taxes or financial strategies and note their responsiveness and clarity. Good communication ensures you understand their advice and fosters a productive relationship.
Beware of CPAs who guarantee specific tax refunds, lack a valid license, or have disciplinary actions on record. Avoid those with poor communication, vague fee structures, or negative reviews highlighting unethical behavior. Always verify their credentials independently.
Large firms offer more resources and specialized teams but may charge higher fees. Solo practitioners often provide personalized service and lower costs but may have limited availability. Choose based on your needs, budget, and preference for personalized attention.
For individuals, annual meetings for tax preparation may suffice. Businesses may need quarterly or monthly check-ins for bookkeeping, tax planning, or financial reporting. Discuss your needs upfront to establish a meeting schedule that aligns with your financial goals.
Yes, many CPAs handle both, but confirm their expertise in both areas. Ask about their experience managing personal taxes and business accounting simultaneously. Ensure they can balance both without compromising attention to your specific financial needs.
Discuss concerns directly with your CPA to resolve issues. If unresolved, check your contract for termination terms. Seek a new CPA by researching reviews, credentials, and referrals. Request your financial records to ensure a smooth transition to a new professional.
