My family has been working with Donovan CPAs for at least 15 years now, primarily for preparation of returns but also for key and timely advice on in-year actions to manage financial events to limit unexpected tax impacts and to assure no unpleasant surprises at tax time. Despite moving out-of-state, we've maintained our relationship with Donovan due to our established relationship, confidence in their utmost integrity, and the professionalism across the organization. We've moved yet again, but at least
I have used Donovan CPAs for several years to file my taxes. They have always been very timely and accurate in the details. I would recommend and have recommended them to friends and family. Thank you for this opportunity!! RLW
Jeff and all his staff make me feel like I'm the their most important client. They are extremely helpful and knowledgeable in dealing with all my tax questions and returns. They are never too busy to answer any "dumb" question I may have.I have been a client for 25+ years and Donavan CPA has maintained that customer service attitude since day one. Thank You 100% Satisfied
I want to take this opportunity to thank you for helping me with my tax returns during many years. Work of excellence, always!
Our taxes appeared to be filed correctly & accurately, but there was no personal interaction, I was charged an additional fee for an early April submission & the overall cost of service was far too expensive for the (at worst) moderate level of work needed to complete. I was not satisfied with the product vs cost.
These folks are welcoming, understanding as well as very hard working. We can call or email and always get a quick response with help whenever it is needed! Don't take my word for it, use them and you can see for yourselves, they are the best!
Have use their services for several years. I liked it better before all the online work. I only have a tablet and travel and this causes problems. Overall, the firm has always tried to help me deal with my issues.
Our previous tax preparer got us into hot water with the IRS. Upon speaking with an attorney about the problem, he recommended Donovan CPAs and we have been tax problem free ever since! I trust Donovan CPAs!
My association with Donovan CPAs started with the 1997 tax year. They have prepared my taxes every year since and have always provided excellent service and advice.
I have used Donovan for over 20 years for my business and personal. I highly recommend
Love this Accounting Firm very business like as well as friendly and always willing to answer any questions if needed. Know what they doing for sure.
Our tax preparer is efficient, timely, helpful and very knowledgeable about our financial and tax situation.
Donovan Associates in general are professional and personal in its approach. And that goes doubly for Kellie Cavanaugh.
We had a terrible experience with Jeff Donovan. He made multiple mistakes on our corporate return, and we ended up having to pay another accountant to file an amended return. He also charged excessively for our services, about three times what the other accountant charged.
I have been more that pleased with the entire team at Donavan as my personal accountants and highly recommend them!
Excellent accounting professionals. Readily available to answer questions and offer guidance.
Tyesha was very knowledgeable & thorough in answering all of my tax related questions. I would highly recommend these accountants- even if just filing taxes. Eased all of my anxiety with what needs to be done. Thank you.
The preprinted tax vouchers with envelops is so helpful. Thank you.
They do a great job at a great price.
Good service, but over priced.
On time accurate work!
Thorough, professional work.
A professional, courteous, CPA firm.
Look for a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license, which ensures they’ve passed rigorous exams and meet state requirements. Check for relevant experience in your industry, additional certifications like CFA or CMA, and membership in professional organizations like the AICPA. Verify their credentials through state licensing boards.
Use online directories like the AICPA, CPAverify, or state CPA societies. Search platforms like Yelp or Google for local CPAs with reviews. Ask for referrals from business associates, friends, or financial advisors. Local chambers of commerce can also provide recommendations.
A CPA is a licensed professional who has passed the CPA exam and met state requirements for education and experience. An accountant may lack this certification and could have varying levels of expertise. For complex tasks like tax audits or financial reporting, a CPA is typically more qualified.
Ask about their experience with your specific financial needs, such as tax preparation, small business accounting, or estate planning. Review their website or LinkedIn for case studies or client testimonials. Inquire about their client base to ensure they handle similar financial situations.
Yes, reviews provide insight into a CPA’s reliability, communication, and performance. Check platforms like Google, Yelp, or the Better Business Bureau for client feedback. Look for patterns in reviews, but verify their authenticity, as some may be biased or outdated.
Visit your state’s Board of Accountancy website or use CPAverify.org to check a CPA’s license status. Confirm their license is active and check for any disciplinary actions or complaints. This ensures they’re in good standing and meet professional standards.
Ask about their experience with your financial needs, fee structure, availability, and communication style. Inquire how they handle tax filings, audits, or financial planning. Ask for references or examples of similar work to assess their expertise and fit.
Fees vary based on location, services, and complexity. Basic tax preparation may cost $150-$500, while business accounting or audits can range from $1,000 to $10,000+. Request a detailed fee structure upfront and compare quotes from multiple CPAs.
Yes, many CPAs offer remote services through secure online platforms for document sharing and virtual consultations. Ensure they use encrypted tools for data security. Remote CPAs can be effective if they understand your local tax laws or business regulations.
During consultations, evaluate their ability to explain complex financial concepts clearly. Ask sample questions about taxes or financial strategies and note their responsiveness and clarity. Good communication ensures you understand their advice and fosters a productive relationship.
Beware of CPAs who guarantee specific tax refunds, lack a valid license, or have disciplinary actions on record. Avoid those with poor communication, vague fee structures, or negative reviews highlighting unethical behavior. Always verify their credentials independently.
Large firms offer more resources and specialized teams but may charge higher fees. Solo practitioners often provide personalized service and lower costs but may have limited availability. Choose based on your needs, budget, and preference for personalized attention.
For individuals, annual meetings for tax preparation may suffice. Businesses may need quarterly or monthly check-ins for bookkeeping, tax planning, or financial reporting. Discuss your needs upfront to establish a meeting schedule that aligns with your financial goals.
Yes, many CPAs handle both, but confirm their expertise in both areas. Ask about their experience managing personal taxes and business accounting simultaneously. Ensure they can balance both without compromising attention to your specific financial needs.
Discuss concerns directly with your CPA to resolve issues. If unresolved, check your contract for termination terms. Seek a new CPA by researching reviews, credentials, and referrals. Request your financial records to ensure a smooth transition to a new professional.
