We own and operate two small businesses and Lloyd Fillis has been excellent to work with. He's responsive, personable, and really knowledgeable. He works hard to make sure our taxes are paid on time and always has great ideas to save money. Highly recommend.
We have used this firm for over 30 years and couldn?t be more happy with them. Loyd came on board a few years ago and transitioned in seamlessly. Relationships with accountants are such a huge part of business success sharing knowledge and advice. Always available to answer questions we may have, professional and yet personable. Highly recommend!
The worst accountant I have ever had the displeasure of working with. After Scott Deshazer sold his portion of the office or was forced out (nothing was ever made clear to clients) everything went down hill. Scott's accounts were not followed up on. The agent assigned to my parents account Lloyd Fillis is incompetent. I provided information to him via email on multiple occasions which he promptly lost and asked for again. I forwarded and reforwarded emails on multiple occasions finally having to loop in th
I have had the pleasure of working with Derek Toren and Shannon Bailey at DTBCPA, PLLC, (formerly Deshazer, Toren & Bailey CPA's) since 2013 and I have to say, I've been blown away by their professionalism and expertise. They were able to help me navigate some complex tax issues when it came time to sell my business and partner with another firm with ease. They always take the time to explain everything to me in a way that is easy to understand. They are also incredibly responsive and always get back to me
I have used Lloyd Fillis for both tax preparation as well as a consulting CFO role. He has been extremely helpful in setting up processes and organizing financials for monthly review, definitely would recommend!
We have used DTB's services for several years. Our experiences have always been of a professional, friendly, patient, and competent staff. It has been - and continues to be - a very good relationship and we appreciate all their help and hard work.
Companies beware!!! If I could give no stars I would. We had used this accounting office to do our taxes, they did them for over 5 years. During our time with them we had a change of book keepers, when asking for help one of the accountants would tell our new book keeper to watch you tube for the answers. Instead of explaining the answers in layman's terms and helping out his answer was you tube. In 2016 our taxes were turned in on time by the end of January. The accountant waited and waited to do ou
My attorney recommended Ike. Ike returned my call promptly, and spent 35 minutes helping me understand my situation. He explained how my situation could play out in plain English, and even knew the case history to back up what he said. Fun (as much as it could be), straightforward, and down to earth. Glad he's on my side.
DTB CPAs are some of the nicest and most competent professionals I have ever worked with. I feel confident in the recommendations they have presented to me and their services have always been delivered in a timely manner.
I have worked with Derek and his team for several years now and I have been nothing but impressed with their knowledgeable and responsive handling of our taxes both business and personal. I would highly recommend their firm to anyone.
I have used this company's accounting and business planning services for over 10 years. Their attention to detail, thoroughness, and quality of service, advice and guidance is unparalleled. I highly recommend using this firm for all of your personal and business accounting needs.
We are really happy that we found these guys. Everyone is so helpful and friendly. Ike did our personal and business taxes. He was extremely thorough and professional. We won't go anywhere else!
I've been a client for more than 6 years. Helpful and professional accounting service and tax advice.
Look for a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license, which ensures they’ve passed rigorous exams and meet state requirements. Check for relevant experience in your industry, additional certifications like CFA or CMA, and membership in professional organizations like the AICPA. Verify their credentials through state licensing boards.
Use online directories like the AICPA, CPAverify, or state CPA societies. Search platforms like Yelp or Google for local CPAs with reviews. Ask for referrals from business associates, friends, or financial advisors. Local chambers of commerce can also provide recommendations.
A CPA is a licensed professional who has passed the CPA exam and met state requirements for education and experience. An accountant may lack this certification and could have varying levels of expertise. For complex tasks like tax audits or financial reporting, a CPA is typically more qualified.
Ask about their experience with your specific financial needs, such as tax preparation, small business accounting, or estate planning. Review their website or LinkedIn for case studies or client testimonials. Inquire about their client base to ensure they handle similar financial situations.
Yes, reviews provide insight into a CPA’s reliability, communication, and performance. Check platforms like Google, Yelp, or the Better Business Bureau for client feedback. Look for patterns in reviews, but verify their authenticity, as some may be biased or outdated.
Visit your state’s Board of Accountancy website or use CPAverify.org to check a CPA’s license status. Confirm their license is active and check for any disciplinary actions or complaints. This ensures they’re in good standing and meet professional standards.
Ask about their experience with your financial needs, fee structure, availability, and communication style. Inquire how they handle tax filings, audits, or financial planning. Ask for references or examples of similar work to assess their expertise and fit.
Fees vary based on location, services, and complexity. Basic tax preparation may cost $150-$500, while business accounting or audits can range from $1,000 to $10,000+. Request a detailed fee structure upfront and compare quotes from multiple CPAs.
Yes, many CPAs offer remote services through secure online platforms for document sharing and virtual consultations. Ensure they use encrypted tools for data security. Remote CPAs can be effective if they understand your local tax laws or business regulations.
During consultations, evaluate their ability to explain complex financial concepts clearly. Ask sample questions about taxes or financial strategies and note their responsiveness and clarity. Good communication ensures you understand their advice and fosters a productive relationship.
Beware of CPAs who guarantee specific tax refunds, lack a valid license, or have disciplinary actions on record. Avoid those with poor communication, vague fee structures, or negative reviews highlighting unethical behavior. Always verify their credentials independently.
Large firms offer more resources and specialized teams but may charge higher fees. Solo practitioners often provide personalized service and lower costs but may have limited availability. Choose based on your needs, budget, and preference for personalized attention.
For individuals, annual meetings for tax preparation may suffice. Businesses may need quarterly or monthly check-ins for bookkeeping, tax planning, or financial reporting. Discuss your needs upfront to establish a meeting schedule that aligns with your financial goals.
Yes, many CPAs handle both, but confirm their expertise in both areas. Ask about their experience managing personal taxes and business accounting simultaneously. Ensure they can balance both without compromising attention to your specific financial needs.
Discuss concerns directly with your CPA to resolve issues. If unresolved, check your contract for termination terms. Seek a new CPA by researching reviews, credentials, and referrals. Request your financial records to ensure a smooth transition to a new professional.
