Customer Reviews

ExpatCPA has helped me with my USA taxes for circa 15 yrs now! They are a great bunch of people. the new platform is really easy to use and the questionaires where you fill in the blanks really help "translating" foreign wages, taxes and assets into something they can interpret and report correctly to the IRS. Highly recommended. and shout out to Cavan, Geralyn, Zan and the rest of the team! Thank you for your help and making tax season a little less stressful!

I've been with Expat CPA since 2009. They are genuine experts in this complex area. I have a very complicated tax situation. Every tax season, I feel reassured knowing that I have someone competent navigating all of this for me. They are also great with customer service. If I have questions in between tax seasons, they are always responsive, even setting up video calls if necessary. I have referred several people to Expat CPA over the years. All have been very satisfied. I highly recommend.

I've been using them for years without any issue. Completing my return is always easy and straightforward. It's never a stressful tax season.

ExpatCPA was able to handle my tax needs which are quite complex with professionalism and correctness for an appropriate price. I'm currently satisfied with their services and will work with them again next year.

I have been using Expat CPA since 2009 and never had an issue with them. Always quick to respond to any questions I have. Great service and my taxes are always completed quickly and done correctly.

I've worked with Expat CPA since 2007. Wow, time flies. They are nice, helpful, and easy to work with. Also very good communicators. It's very helpful to have their expertise on foreign corporations and more. The price is fair and I highly recommend their services.

Highly professional and responsive EXPAT Tax Preparation and Filing services. I've been a client for 5 years and they continue to exceed expectations.

I have been using Expat CPA for almost 10 years now, and extremely satisfied. They have always prepared and submitted my returns on time. Despite the time difference (I live in Europe), they have always been incredibly responsive. I recommend them wholeheartedly!

?????????? I am very grateful for the wonderful work EXPAT CPA team has done for me every year since 2008. One of the big four were doing my returns before 2008 and EXPAT CPAs dedication, knowledge and efficiency is at par if not better. I can certainly vouch for the wonderful work EXPAT CPA team does, and would highly recommend them for US filers in US or abroad.

Having dual citizenship and living in Europe for the last 14 years. , Expat CPA made sure my USA taxes were filled correctly. Laws change as well as financial assets, so I am grateful for their service to help people like me!

Since retiring and moving abroad, I used the Expat CPA tax service for the first time this year (2024). Until now, I have relied on a family member in the States to collect my tax documents, schedule an appointment with their tax person -- who was unfamiliar with expat issues -- and conduct the meeting over the phone. Searching for an alternative, I discovered Expat CPA. Their service provided a secure method to upload my tax information at my convenience and to have my tax return completed by an expat spec

Super fast, great quality service and fantastic price. Have been using them for years and very happy with the service.

I have used Expat CPA for two years now and I am very pleased with their services. My taxes are properly and timely filed, they respond in a professional and friendly way and there rates are very reasonable

They have been doing my taxes for 15 years. This year they made their first error, but more than atoned for it,

I highly recommend ExPatCPA. Jeff and the entire ExPat tax team, Geralyn, Zan and Kevin were all very responsive and a pleasure to work with. Great value for services rendered. Will utilize their tax services again without hesitation next year.

I've been a cleint of Jon Harvey, Jeff & Team for over 10 years during my time overseas and now in the US; they are very knowlegeable of expatriate tax requirements/laws and the various administrivia relating to international and US tax filers.

Poor customer service. Made it seem as if the service offered on the website that inspired me to reach out was non existent. When I emailed back for clarity I got no response and no response after a follow up email. It?s been 10 days since I?ve heard anything.

This outfit knows nothing about foreign tax systems although they call themselves Expat CPA. I ended up paying thousands of dollars more in Japanese taxes because they did not advise me on how to file my foreign taxes or whether I even had to. Only after I was slapped with $5000 in Japanese taxes did they say `I really don't understand your issue.' The front guy Lewis is not even a CPA, although he calls himself one. These people can file your American taxes as anyone can using Turbo. But forget about get

I don't recommend this business. They are very dishonest, vague and misleading with their pricing. They charged me thousands of dollars without my knowledge, and for forms that are not even necessary. I am trying to get a refund through BBB. Be aware and don't give out your credit card to them without having a signed price quote or agreement from them.

Great service and highly recommend!

Have been using their services for 13 years, they are always super helpful and cut through all the things i have no idea about and simply take cars of business. Being a Tax Dummy. Glad they are there!

I've been a Client since 2006

Responsive. Knowledgeable. Saved me thousands on taxes. Highly recommended.

Amazing team of highly qualified professionals! Have been using the firm for the last 20 years... Thanks a lot for your continued guidance & support!

Stumbled across ExpatCPA looking for help with filing my Canadian wife's US returns. It was quick, painless, and very reasonably priced. Highly recommend !!

I used ExpatCPA for the first time this year. I can?t say I was satisfied. Their service felt like a ?return mill,??basically plugging the figures I provided into the return without bothering to weigh options or apply any expertise. In the first pass, my return had several mistakes, including basic things like unchecked boxes, as well as more serious issues. (For example, meal expenses should have been only 50% deductible, but they just keyed in the raw number I gave them without doing the math first.) Ther

I've been a client of Expat CPA for several years and have always been impressed by their professionalism. They consistently provide prompt and helpful responses to all my queries. Highly recommended!

Frequently Asked Questions

What qualifications should I look for in a CPA?

Look for a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license, which ensures they’ve passed rigorous exams and meet state requirements. Check for relevant experience in your industry, additional certifications like CFA or CMA, and membership in professional organizations like the AICPA. Verify their credentials through state licensing boards.

How do I find a CPA in my area?

Use online directories like the AICPA, CPAverify, or state CPA societies. Search platforms like Yelp or Google for local CPAs with reviews. Ask for referrals from business associates, friends, or financial advisors. Local chambers of commerce can also provide recommendations.

What’s the difference between a CPA and an accountant?

A CPA is a licensed professional who has passed the CPA exam and met state requirements for education and experience. An accountant may lack this certification and could have varying levels of expertise. For complex tasks like tax audits or financial reporting, a CPA is typically more qualified.

How do I know if a CPA specializes in my needs?

Ask about their experience with your specific financial needs, such as tax preparation, small business accounting, or estate planning. Review their website or LinkedIn for case studies or client testimonials. Inquire about their client base to ensure they handle similar financial situations.

Should I check a CPA’s reviews before hiring?

Yes, reviews provide insight into a CPA’s reliability, communication, and performance. Check platforms like Google, Yelp, or the Better Business Bureau for client feedback. Look for patterns in reviews, but verify their authenticity, as some may be biased or outdated.

How can I verify a CPA’s license?

Visit your state’s Board of Accountancy website or use CPAverify.org to check a CPA’s license status. Confirm their license is active and check for any disciplinary actions or complaints. This ensures they’re in good standing and meet professional standards.

What questions should I ask during a CPA consultation?

Ask about their experience with your financial needs, fee structure, availability, and communication style. Inquire how they handle tax filings, audits, or financial planning. Ask for references or examples of similar work to assess their expertise and fit.

How much should I expect to pay for a CPA’s services?

Fees vary based on location, services, and complexity. Basic tax preparation may cost $150-$500, while business accounting or audits can range from $1,000 to $10,000+. Request a detailed fee structure upfront and compare quotes from multiple CPAs.

Can I work with a CPA remotely?

Yes, many CPAs offer remote services through secure online platforms for document sharing and virtual consultations. Ensure they use encrypted tools for data security. Remote CPAs can be effective if they understand your local tax laws or business regulations.

How do I assess a CPA’s communication skills?

During consultations, evaluate their ability to explain complex financial concepts clearly. Ask sample questions about taxes or financial strategies and note their responsiveness and clarity. Good communication ensures you understand their advice and fosters a productive relationship.

What red flags should I watch for when screening a CPA?

Beware of CPAs who guarantee specific tax refunds, lack a valid license, or have disciplinary actions on record. Avoid those with poor communication, vague fee structures, or negative reviews highlighting unethical behavior. Always verify their credentials independently.

Should I choose a CPA from a large firm or a solo practitioner?

Large firms offer more resources and specialized teams but may charge higher fees. Solo practitioners often provide personalized service and lower costs but may have limited availability. Choose based on your needs, budget, and preference for personalized attention.

How often should I meet with my CPA?

For individuals, annual meetings for tax preparation may suffice. Businesses may need quarterly or monthly check-ins for bookkeeping, tax planning, or financial reporting. Discuss your needs upfront to establish a meeting schedule that aligns with your financial goals.

Can a CPA help with both personal and business finances?

Yes, many CPAs handle both, but confirm their expertise in both areas. Ask about their experience managing personal taxes and business accounting simultaneously. Ensure they can balance both without compromising attention to your specific financial needs.

What should I do if I’m not satisfied with my CPA?

Discuss concerns directly with your CPA to resolve issues. If unresolved, check your contract for termination terms. Seek a new CPA by researching reviews, credentials, and referrals. Request your financial records to ensure a smooth transition to a new professional.
