Heard the place got bought out by a giant firm? Used to go to Howard years ago before I moved and he was always amazing. Will be moving back to the area and always remembered him and was going to go back, but looks like I might have to go elsewhere if he is no longer there.
I have used Mr. Cohen?s professional services for a few years now. I had been very happy with my previous accountant, but he had to retire and I see why he entrusted Howard to take over the practice. Howard and his office staff are professional, attentive to your needs, and provide proper attention to detail. Mr. Cohen comes highly recommended. - Christopher W. Oglesby, DDS
If I could give Howard Cohen and his office 10 stars I would. They were absolutely amazing. I have been trying to get a 501c3 charity group registered and approved for over two years by several other so called Accountants, who would tell us our paperwork was wrong and needed to be changed, or they kept needing to re-submit different items, etc. All for a "small fee" of course. Then we found Howard. Howard came highly recommended and we spoke a few times, sent him a couple copies of our paperwork and
This was our first time coming here and Howard was absolutely phenomenal with our taxes. We had a lot file and also a business and he was very knowledgeable and helpful it honestly took the stress out of doing taxes. If you want a true professional who is down to earth come here!! We will be coming here every year!

Although I?m retired now he has helped me tremendously in my business and personal accounting needs. In good times and bad he has always advised me in a positive way. Thanks for the great support Howard I really appreciate it!
I have been using Howard Cohen, CPA for over 10 years and my father has been using him for his business for over 20 years. A fantastic staff, helpful, patient and easy to work with. If you are a business, I would not look any further and hire this CPA. Thank you Howard!
Howard has been mine and my families accountant for 30 years. His services are incredible from tax preparations, payroll services and overall financial advice. The office staff is knowledgeable and responsive. I always recommend his services to my family and friends. It is a pleasure to be one of his clients.

I have recommended Howard to other businesses in my local entrepreneur group and they are all extremely pleased with Howard and his professional office staff. Thank You to you and your great staff, I owe much of my success to you!
We are very impressed with Howard Cohen. He is very personable, knowledgeable and up to date on all the latest tax codes. He did our taxes in 30 mins and explained the process as he went. We highly recommend Howard Cohen CPA
Howard has been our account for both personal and for business since the early 2000?s. We have confidently recommended him numerous times! It?s a pleasure working with Howard and his amazing staff!
Robert Forrester was an Excellent Staff member at Howard S Cohens office. Robert sat me down and filed my taxes for me while I waited for him to finish. I had several questions that Robert answered for me promptly. Robert was friendly, nice smile, professional & honest. I recommend you all making an appointment to see Robert for your tax filing needs. Rosemary Florio
Howard S Cohen PC , CPA has been doing my family?s taxes for over 20 years. They are Dependable, Honest, Knowledgable and Patient with any questions or concerns you may have. Mr Cohen did my taxes this past year after my divorce. He was so patient and answered all my questions even the ones I asked multiple time. I will definitely be using him again
I have been dealing with Howard and his team for a few years now and I have always had a friendly and fast experience Howard always goes above and beyond explaining everything. Always excellent service I will definitely be returning. Thank you
Cost $700 to do taxes! Another friend had exact same filings and was charged $250! And they screwed up and now I have a demand notice to pay NYS and federal IRS more! My taxes were NOT filled late and if they were to be late a good tax service would know to file an extension. Letter from NYS says improper amounts or calculations. Cohen is not professional enough to admit when they made a mistake. Absolute price gouging here!!!!
Howard was extremely helpful in maximizing deductions and making the overall process of filing taxes quick and easy. I highly recommend him for all your tax needs.
Howard's been amazing every year. Great value compared to trying to go off on my own with H&R Block!
Excellent service and honest in his having your best interests at heart. I highly recommend Mr. Cohen. My parents and I have had him do our taxes for several years now.
Extremely professional, quick, trustworthy, and reliable services. I've been going to Howie for over a decade. He is an ace, and I wouldn't go anywhere else for accounting services.
I have had Mr Cohen to do my personal and corporate taxes for over 30 years and I referred many people for his services over the years I highly recommended him
this was our second tax season working with Robert Forrester, he seems to do right by us and that?s all that really matters, we?ll definitely continue to go back.
I highly recommend this accounting firm. They are efficient, and friendly and I never have to worry about their expertise or capability with accounting or tax preperation.
The team here is quick and efficient, the new woman at the front is super friendly too! Definitely coming back next year.
100% recommend! By far the easiest and most pleasant experience I?ve had to date.
Very professional. I strongly recommend.
Professional and very helpful!
Very unprofessional. Do not recommend
Look for a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license, which ensures they’ve passed rigorous exams and meet state requirements. Check for relevant experience in your industry, additional certifications like CFA or CMA, and membership in professional organizations like the AICPA. Verify their credentials through state licensing boards.
Use online directories like the AICPA, CPAverify, or state CPA societies. Search platforms like Yelp or Google for local CPAs with reviews. Ask for referrals from business associates, friends, or financial advisors. Local chambers of commerce can also provide recommendations.
A CPA is a licensed professional who has passed the CPA exam and met state requirements for education and experience. An accountant may lack this certification and could have varying levels of expertise. For complex tasks like tax audits or financial reporting, a CPA is typically more qualified.
Ask about their experience with your specific financial needs, such as tax preparation, small business accounting, or estate planning. Review their website or LinkedIn for case studies or client testimonials. Inquire about their client base to ensure they handle similar financial situations.
Yes, reviews provide insight into a CPA’s reliability, communication, and performance. Check platforms like Google, Yelp, or the Better Business Bureau for client feedback. Look for patterns in reviews, but verify their authenticity, as some may be biased or outdated.
Visit your state’s Board of Accountancy website or use CPAverify.org to check a CPA’s license status. Confirm their license is active and check for any disciplinary actions or complaints. This ensures they’re in good standing and meet professional standards.
Ask about their experience with your financial needs, fee structure, availability, and communication style. Inquire how they handle tax filings, audits, or financial planning. Ask for references or examples of similar work to assess their expertise and fit.
Fees vary based on location, services, and complexity. Basic tax preparation may cost $150-$500, while business accounting or audits can range from $1,000 to $10,000+. Request a detailed fee structure upfront and compare quotes from multiple CPAs.
Yes, many CPAs offer remote services through secure online platforms for document sharing and virtual consultations. Ensure they use encrypted tools for data security. Remote CPAs can be effective if they understand your local tax laws or business regulations.
During consultations, evaluate their ability to explain complex financial concepts clearly. Ask sample questions about taxes or financial strategies and note their responsiveness and clarity. Good communication ensures you understand their advice and fosters a productive relationship.
Beware of CPAs who guarantee specific tax refunds, lack a valid license, or have disciplinary actions on record. Avoid those with poor communication, vague fee structures, or negative reviews highlighting unethical behavior. Always verify their credentials independently.
Large firms offer more resources and specialized teams but may charge higher fees. Solo practitioners often provide personalized service and lower costs but may have limited availability. Choose based on your needs, budget, and preference for personalized attention.
For individuals, annual meetings for tax preparation may suffice. Businesses may need quarterly or monthly check-ins for bookkeeping, tax planning, or financial reporting. Discuss your needs upfront to establish a meeting schedule that aligns with your financial goals.
Yes, many CPAs handle both, but confirm their expertise in both areas. Ask about their experience managing personal taxes and business accounting simultaneously. Ensure they can balance both without compromising attention to your specific financial needs.
Discuss concerns directly with your CPA to resolve issues. If unresolved, check your contract for termination terms. Seek a new CPA by researching reviews, credentials, and referrals. Request your financial records to ensure a smooth transition to a new professional.
