Customer Reviews

I want to preface this by saying I?ve never left a negative review for a business before. However, in this case, I feel a responsibility to share my experience and strongly advise others to exercise extreme caution before working with this company. I was a client of Sarah Gonzales and her team for several years, paying for their highest level of support to ensure my business taxes were handled with care and accuracy. While the first couple of years seemed fine at the time, things eventually deteriorated to

I can?t say enough good things about Kohari Gonzalez! As a small business owner, navigating taxes can be overwhelming, but their team made the entire process smooth and stress-free. They are incredibly knowledgeable, detail-oriented, and always take the time to explain everything in a way that makes sense. Beyond just filing taxes, they offer strategic advice that has helped me save money and plan for the future. Their professionalism, responsiveness, and genuine care for their clients set them apart. 10/10 ? One-Stop Accounting Dream Team! This CPA firm is the gold standard. Fast, responsive, and beyond thorough. They handle everything?tax prep, bookkeeping, payroll, business consulting?you name it. I?ve never felt more confident or supported. If you want peace of mind and powerhouse results, look no further. Total pros!

I would never use this accounting firm. Our accountant did not report our 2022 and 2023 taxes until I wrote a complaint in August of 2024. They were finally submitted in October of 2024 when I saw that I owed more than $1,000 in interest and penalties. Also I owed over $14,000 for the two years in taxes. I lost my husband in July of 2024 so paying this amount was a real hardship on me. The accounting firm is not willing to pay my interest charges or penalties. They are not responding to my emails. I also ha

Communication was terrible with employee turnover. More than once I had been sending emails to an address no longer used. Nobody notified me of that change until I started getting late notices in the mail. They were late all the time, messed up my address on forms more than once, even tried to bill me the hours spent to correct their own mistakes. My first year with them in 2022 BEFORE the kohari/gonzalez merger was very good. I kept expecting things to return that way after a terrible experience in 2023 an

We recently experienced what I believe to have been a misunderstanding between the firm and ourselves, and should serve to illustrate the importance of timely and adequate communication. However, in speaking with Megan today, she took the time to listen to my concerns and assured me that she is willing to assist and guide us to a good resolve. I truly appreciate her level of professionalism, and trust that we will be able to take a frustrating situation and turn it into a positive experience.

We worked with Sara, really helped us getting our taxes done. She is so knowledgeable and guided us with getting everything streamlined. I am definitely so happy and content.

Fast, professional, and easy to work with. They made tax season way less stressful. Highly recommend.

Excellent service. Handled all of the challenges that I had and the staff is fantastic. Very knowledgeable and excellent customer service.

My wife and I used to do our own taxes. Then, we went to KG as they came highly recommended. We were not disappointed. Had we filed ourselves, there is so much we would have missed that Sara knew to ask about and Turbo Tax never has! Additionally, Sara immediately answered my inquiries off the top of her head about specific areas that I wanted to adjust and about which I wanted to take a closer look. They are professional, knowledgeable, and diligent in both winning and keeping our business. Do yourself a f

This year, as in past years, my return was completed promptly and accurately. I am always able to reach key staff with any questions I have. I am very satisfied with this organization and will continue working with them in the future.

I have had the pleasure of working with KGOB for tax filing as both an individual and a small business owner for several years. I work with Sara Gonzalez, CPA and have found her to be nothing but professional, prompt, highly competent and reliable. Sara knows her stuff and she's been a great resource for me over the years when it comes to the small details related to my business. I've enjoyed working with Sara so much that she has become my go-to referral when other small business owners ask me for CPA su

Great online tools Outstanding customer service. Very professional. Timeline with anything that I give them. Very welcoming.

After having a terrible experience with another, CPA, we switched to KGOB a few years ago, and cannot be happier! Sara Gonzalez and her team have been extremely knowledgeable and honest, they truly care and want to help make sure you have the best outcome possible. We are so grateful to have them on our side when tax season comes around!

I wish I could write a better review. I've been doing business with Brown Jenkins Oneyear (Now KOHARI & GONZALEZ, PLLC) for over 8 years. After the acquisition both my corporate and personal taxes were late, filed late, even though they were delivered on time per their own date deadlines. They filed extensions without notifying us. On multiple occasions they have not returned critical business calls. I strongly advise a careful evaluation before engaging this company. Again, I wish I could leave a glowing r

Sara and her team are great! They have done our personal and business taxes for several years now. Always quick responses and accurate, informative feedback. Highly recommend for all your CPA needs.

Upon relocating to Charlotte NC in 1990 a friend recommended Kohari & Gonzalez to us. Since that time K&G has been the only CPA firm we've used for our personal and business tax preparation and we've been extremely happy with their services. It's always a pleasure to visit their office and their knowledge of IRS codes never fails to impress us. We highly recommend K&G to anyone looking for a quality CPA firm.

Switching to Kohari & Gonzalez a few years ago was a game-changer for me, and I have never looked back. Their exceptional services have taken care of all my accounting needs, and the best part is that I can do everything remotely with them. If you're tired of dealing with accounting headaches, do yourself a favor and hire these folks! You won't be disappointed!

This has been an amazing experience for me! I had literally been calling CPAs for 2 days straight and could barely get in contact with anyone! And when I did, they weren?t too helpful. Tricia however, answered on the first ring and not only did she go out of her way to help me get the correct statements I needed for my apartment but she invited me to the office and took the time to educate me about why it?s important to pay attention to your books and financials. They are making my life so much easier alrea

?????????? Sara and her team have been great every year to help with Whystle's tax returns. At one point they remembered something that I had totally forgot and it ended up getting me a large multi thousand dollar return and I can't thank this team enough. I would highly recommend using Kohari and Gonzalez for your personal and business needs.

I have benefitted from the services from this firm for many years, going back to the earliest days. Each year they have handled my tax returns and have assisted me with tax questions over the years. I have always received prompt and courteous service from the professionals at the firm. I recommend them and am confident their service will fill your needs.

Sara and Tawney are extremely responsive. I had an upfront and honest consultation where we reviewed details of my situation and was given an estimate of cost. We worked through the details of my paperwork, including the sale of a house, a couple different W2s, different states, etc that makes taxes a bit more complicated. Sara handled everything with ease and very, very quickly. They took the stress of filing taxes completely off my shoulders and I highly recommend this firm!

Came over to Kohari & Gonzalez when our long time accountant retired and headed us their way. They've been doing our personal and business taxes for three years now. Very thorough, accommodating and up to date on tax laws and changes. I would recommend them. Two convenient locations easy to get to.

Our experience dealing with KGOB has been nothing but positive the last number of years at tax time. Through timely preparation, courteous service, and very professional operation, we have been updated on law changes and changes required in record keeping or accounting processes. Top notch people and a first rate operation.

Kohari and Gonzalez is awesome! My favorite part is how Sara doesn't miss anything and is very responsive to clients and was able to help me in so many ways that I would not have known, nor have gotten from any other CPA firms with my businesses. She is a true professional!

I have the very same similar experience from the other two 1 and 2 star comments. I actually just discontinued my service with them today after a back and forth of an unproductive 3 weeks to start a LLC. Very nice people but not as professional as they seem or claim to be. Would not recommend them for your business but if you do choose definitely do not pay in full up front until the work you request is completed.

Kohari and Gonzalez are strong competitors in the top 5 worst businesses we have worked with. They fail to communicate well and in a timely fashion and completely dropped the ball in times they were needed most. I would highly not recommend.

They forgot to file my 2018 taxes even though I submitted them 2 months early and corresponded regularly. I knew I would be getting a refund. I only found out that they hadn't filed my taxes when tax day came and went and I never heard from them. When I called they had forgotten to file and had to file late. I never received an electronic copy of my taxes in spite of leaving phone and email messages. This happened again when I asked for my 2018 electronic copy of taxes for my new accountant. Nice peopl

The initial services were very good. And I really loved working with them But in a few months the customer service began to decline. We couldn't get returned phone calls, items requested were late, we always got conflicting information, and finally out of a notice our services would be discontined. No explanation. The most disappointing experience was that you can never get a straight answer. One person would tell us one thing and someone else another. They either had more business then they could handle,

I've been using them for a few years but I'm looking for a new experience now because the service level has just been so low. I want to rate higher -they're nice and polite (should go without saying but I appreciate it) but it's just a challenge getting basic things done.

I've had 5 cps over the course of my career as an entrepreneur, and I can by far say that Sara and her team have been the most competent, and have generated the most in tax savings since. Highly recommended! Can't say that enough!

We've been working with Sara and her team for about 3 years, they have been excellent! I'd highly recommend their professional services, good to work with and very knowledgeable people.

I have personally been using Kohari & Gonzalez for over ten years, and I was once a tax preparer myself. I have every confidence in their handling of my return and it is a pleasure working with them.

Everyone at Kohari&GonzalezPLLC is very kind and very professional. The work they do is exceptional and I was lucky to be referred to them! They always do an exceptional job. I would certainly refer them to family or friends! Sincerely, Ruth Conger

K&G did a great job in streamlining our taxes to make it a quick sign and done. We will be receiving both Federal and state refunds. Thanks again team!!!

Great firm! They took care of me when my other accountant couldn?t. Highly recommend for both business and personal returns.

Very poor so called professionals. They take your money and provide nothing. They hold your paperwork hostage until they get what they want. And we're not a disgruntled employee. Never worked for them. They were supposed to work for us.

Great firm! The accountant took very good care of me I?ll most definitely be using again! Highly recommend!

Sara and her team are amazing. Thank you Sara. I wish I knew of your firm years ago.

Kohari & Gonzalez are professional and they answered all my questions. They were very respectful and welcoming.

I love these people. They have been doing my taxes since the 1980s. Very professional and helpful.

I would highly recommend this office! Very professional, efficient, and personable!

Kohari & Gonzalez have been great to work with.

I have been a customer for decades.

I was referred to KGOB by a colleague and couldn?t be more grateful. Their on-boarding process was smooth, their team was friendly, and their work was flawless.

As a small business owner, I needed a firm that understands real-world challenges. KGOB exceeded my expectations?they helped streamline my books and even advised me on future planning. Highly recommend!

I?ve been a client of Sara?s CPA firm for over three years, and the experience has been consistently outstanding. Sara is not only highly knowledgeable but also genuinely cares about her clients. She and her team are always responsive, professional, and thorough in addressing any questions or concerns. I truly appreciate the personal attention and dedication they bring to every interaction. I wouldn?t trust anyone else with my financial matters?highly recommended!

Frequently Asked Questions

What qualifications should I look for in a CPA?

Look for a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license, which ensures they’ve passed rigorous exams and meet state requirements. Check for relevant experience in your industry, additional certifications like CFA or CMA, and membership in professional organizations like the AICPA. Verify their credentials through state licensing boards.

How do I find a CPA in my area?

Use online directories like the AICPA, CPAverify, or state CPA societies. Search platforms like Yelp or Google for local CPAs with reviews. Ask for referrals from business associates, friends, or financial advisors. Local chambers of commerce can also provide recommendations.

What’s the difference between a CPA and an accountant?

A CPA is a licensed professional who has passed the CPA exam and met state requirements for education and experience. An accountant may lack this certification and could have varying levels of expertise. For complex tasks like tax audits or financial reporting, a CPA is typically more qualified.

How do I know if a CPA specializes in my needs?

Ask about their experience with your specific financial needs, such as tax preparation, small business accounting, or estate planning. Review their website or LinkedIn for case studies or client testimonials. Inquire about their client base to ensure they handle similar financial situations.

Should I check a CPA’s reviews before hiring?

Yes, reviews provide insight into a CPA’s reliability, communication, and performance. Check platforms like Google, Yelp, or the Better Business Bureau for client feedback. Look for patterns in reviews, but verify their authenticity, as some may be biased or outdated.

How can I verify a CPA’s license?

Visit your state’s Board of Accountancy website or use CPAverify.org to check a CPA’s license status. Confirm their license is active and check for any disciplinary actions or complaints. This ensures they’re in good standing and meet professional standards.

What questions should I ask during a CPA consultation?

Ask about their experience with your financial needs, fee structure, availability, and communication style. Inquire how they handle tax filings, audits, or financial planning. Ask for references or examples of similar work to assess their expertise and fit.

How much should I expect to pay for a CPA’s services?

Fees vary based on location, services, and complexity. Basic tax preparation may cost $150-$500, while business accounting or audits can range from $1,000 to $10,000+. Request a detailed fee structure upfront and compare quotes from multiple CPAs.

Can I work with a CPA remotely?

Yes, many CPAs offer remote services through secure online platforms for document sharing and virtual consultations. Ensure they use encrypted tools for data security. Remote CPAs can be effective if they understand your local tax laws or business regulations.

How do I assess a CPA’s communication skills?

During consultations, evaluate their ability to explain complex financial concepts clearly. Ask sample questions about taxes or financial strategies and note their responsiveness and clarity. Good communication ensures you understand their advice and fosters a productive relationship.

What red flags should I watch for when screening a CPA?

Beware of CPAs who guarantee specific tax refunds, lack a valid license, or have disciplinary actions on record. Avoid those with poor communication, vague fee structures, or negative reviews highlighting unethical behavior. Always verify their credentials independently.

Should I choose a CPA from a large firm or a solo practitioner?

Large firms offer more resources and specialized teams but may charge higher fees. Solo practitioners often provide personalized service and lower costs but may have limited availability. Choose based on your needs, budget, and preference for personalized attention.

How often should I meet with my CPA?

For individuals, annual meetings for tax preparation may suffice. Businesses may need quarterly or monthly check-ins for bookkeeping, tax planning, or financial reporting. Discuss your needs upfront to establish a meeting schedule that aligns with your financial goals.

Can a CPA help with both personal and business finances?

Yes, many CPAs handle both, but confirm their expertise in both areas. Ask about their experience managing personal taxes and business accounting simultaneously. Ensure they can balance both without compromising attention to your specific financial needs.

What should I do if I’m not satisfied with my CPA?

Discuss concerns directly with your CPA to resolve issues. If unresolved, check your contract for termination terms. Seek a new CPA by researching reviews, credentials, and referrals. Request your financial records to ensure a smooth transition to a new professional.
