Customer Reviews

Laskey Costello has been filing my personal and business taxes while also providing payroll services for my business for years now. They have consistantly provided quality service with oustanding communication. I would highly recommend this firm for all your accounting needs.

I have been using Laskey Costello for over 12 years. They provide excellent service and are especially great with small business! Highly recommend, wouldn't go anywhere else.

My husband and I have worked with Laskey Costello for about five years now and they are excellent. Everyone that works there is so helpful and nice. Anytime I have a concern or question someone knowledgeable and kind is quick to help. Will, does a lot of our taxes and some other things for us and he is always available and helpful. Their response time is always fast. I highly recommend them and can?t be more appreciative of their services

We have been working with Will for many years now and they have done nothing but provide exceptional service from helping out with payroll to doing our taxes. I've learned so much working with Laskey Costello and am grateful to have found them!

I have worked with Cindy Costello for over 5 years now. When I started my first business I was looking for an accountant who could help me with all my legal questions. I made an appointment with Cindy, and she was professional, knowledgeable easy to understand and on point. (this was important to me, as English is my second language!) I told her that I had been doing my taxes on my own for a while, and she encouraged me to keep doing so, instead of trying to sell me their services. She told me I could alway

My husband and his family had their taxes done with this firm for years. When we got married, it was a logical choice to give them a try. It was one of the better decisions we made. They had never charged us for any consulting, as we have had multiple questions that come up along the way. Will Costello always gave me a sensible and practical advice free of charge. I am very comfortable and pleased with their services.

My wife and I have been going to Laskey Costello for years to get our taxes done. Their tax service is quick and accurate, I don't have to worry about anything because I know it was done right. Their new building is warm and inviting, and in a great location. I would (and have) recommend Laskey Costello to my friends and family.

Very nice people, but taxes showed I owed several thousand dollars, which I subsequently paid to the IRS. After asking for some details, I was told it was because I made more money than the previous year. The next day I was told they made an error in filing my taxes, and i?m actually owed a refund of several thousand dollars. Mistakes happen, but sure made me lose confidence in the company. I hope they would have still caught the error if I didn?t ask for clarification. The IRS apparently takes 16 weeks or

Real unprofessional I don?t know how there still open , lady told me I will see if we would help you we don?t have a lot of employees rn I?ll send a email and if they take it they take it , like are y?all helping people or not it kinda gave me scam vibes if I were you guys I?d stay far away from people who are not looking to help taxes is a serious thing your social etc? would be in the hands of them if they don?t care or even wanna help people I wouldn?t trust them ??

I have a photography business and they have helped me so much the past 2 years. I used to be so worried about tax time before I started getting my taxes done by them. They really make me feel important and make sure all of my questions are answered. I highly recommend this company.

I'm very happy I decided to start using this CPA. The location is very comfortable and easy to access, and even has its own parking. I had a consultation free of charge that helped me understand where I was at with my taxes, and I will definitely continue to come here for tax prep as long as I am in Cleveland.

I needed to put this up! It's insane how a Tax Accountant (Tim Laskey in Lakewood OH) did my business and personal taxes for 2011, charged me $1500, and I'm STILL getting requests from cities in which I never filed! Not only that, for the past 4 years I've made the same amount and had to pay no taxes, but when he did it, I had to pay $6000!!!!! One dependent made me head of household which qualified me for an $8,500 deductible; but, they filed me as single which is $2700 less. When his employee gave me the

Cindy helped me with some small business questions. She was very thorough and knowledgeable. She even followed up with me on a question later in the week. Everyone in the office was friendly and pleasant to deal with.

If you love your coin. Then you love Costello! Emily did a little of this and a little of that and doubled anything turbo tax ever gave me.

I've worked with Will on my federal/state/local returns - easy to work with, would recommend.

Frequently Asked Questions

What qualifications should I look for in a CPA?

Look for a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license, which ensures they’ve passed rigorous exams and meet state requirements. Check for relevant experience in your industry, additional certifications like CFA or CMA, and membership in professional organizations like the AICPA. Verify their credentials through state licensing boards.

How do I find a CPA in my area?

Use online directories like the AICPA, CPAverify, or state CPA societies. Search platforms like Yelp or Google for local CPAs with reviews. Ask for referrals from business associates, friends, or financial advisors. Local chambers of commerce can also provide recommendations.

What’s the difference between a CPA and an accountant?

A CPA is a licensed professional who has passed the CPA exam and met state requirements for education and experience. An accountant may lack this certification and could have varying levels of expertise. For complex tasks like tax audits or financial reporting, a CPA is typically more qualified.

How do I know if a CPA specializes in my needs?

Ask about their experience with your specific financial needs, such as tax preparation, small business accounting, or estate planning. Review their website or LinkedIn for case studies or client testimonials. Inquire about their client base to ensure they handle similar financial situations.

Should I check a CPA’s reviews before hiring?

Yes, reviews provide insight into a CPA’s reliability, communication, and performance. Check platforms like Google, Yelp, or the Better Business Bureau for client feedback. Look for patterns in reviews, but verify their authenticity, as some may be biased or outdated.

How can I verify a CPA’s license?

Visit your state’s Board of Accountancy website or use CPAverify.org to check a CPA’s license status. Confirm their license is active and check for any disciplinary actions or complaints. This ensures they’re in good standing and meet professional standards.

What questions should I ask during a CPA consultation?

Ask about their experience with your financial needs, fee structure, availability, and communication style. Inquire how they handle tax filings, audits, or financial planning. Ask for references or examples of similar work to assess their expertise and fit.

How much should I expect to pay for a CPA’s services?

Fees vary based on location, services, and complexity. Basic tax preparation may cost $150-$500, while business accounting or audits can range from $1,000 to $10,000+. Request a detailed fee structure upfront and compare quotes from multiple CPAs.

Can I work with a CPA remotely?

Yes, many CPAs offer remote services through secure online platforms for document sharing and virtual consultations. Ensure they use encrypted tools for data security. Remote CPAs can be effective if they understand your local tax laws or business regulations.

How do I assess a CPA’s communication skills?

During consultations, evaluate their ability to explain complex financial concepts clearly. Ask sample questions about taxes or financial strategies and note their responsiveness and clarity. Good communication ensures you understand their advice and fosters a productive relationship.

What red flags should I watch for when screening a CPA?

Beware of CPAs who guarantee specific tax refunds, lack a valid license, or have disciplinary actions on record. Avoid those with poor communication, vague fee structures, or negative reviews highlighting unethical behavior. Always verify their credentials independently.

Should I choose a CPA from a large firm or a solo practitioner?

Large firms offer more resources and specialized teams but may charge higher fees. Solo practitioners often provide personalized service and lower costs but may have limited availability. Choose based on your needs, budget, and preference for personalized attention.

How often should I meet with my CPA?

For individuals, annual meetings for tax preparation may suffice. Businesses may need quarterly or monthly check-ins for bookkeeping, tax planning, or financial reporting. Discuss your needs upfront to establish a meeting schedule that aligns with your financial goals.

Can a CPA help with both personal and business finances?

Yes, many CPAs handle both, but confirm their expertise in both areas. Ask about their experience managing personal taxes and business accounting simultaneously. Ensure they can balance both without compromising attention to your specific financial needs.

What should I do if I’m not satisfied with my CPA?

Discuss concerns directly with your CPA to resolve issues. If unresolved, check your contract for termination terms. Seek a new CPA by researching reviews, credentials, and referrals. Request your financial records to ensure a smooth transition to a new professional.
