M.A.V. Service

M.A.V. Service

Reviews Summary

The reviews present a polarized consensus. Many customers praise the professionalism, expertise, and long-term reliability of the service, particularly for tax preparation, with some loyal clients returning for years. However, a significant portion report poor experiences, citing unprofessional behavior, rude staff, excessive wait times, delayed or missing documents, and concerns over dishonesty. Complaints highlight inconsistent service quality, lack of communication, and frustration with appointment handling. While some view the team as hardworking and caring, others feel mistreated or scammed, especially non-English speakers. Overall, satisfaction appears highly dependent on individual interactions.

Customer Reviews

My husband, bless his heart, accidentally sent a Zelle to Martha V. I have called multiple times and they said she sent the 100 dollars back. It was an honest mistake and I was polite when I called. As of now, no money has been sent back and it is stolen in my opinion. How dishonest is that? We have been getting our taxes done there for 6 years! And they pay us back by stealing from us. How awful. I will be filing a formal report and complaint to the better business bureau.

There is no way we waited 5 hours to get seen. If your busy don't book people if you not going to be on time. Just waisting people time. Oh and they are not honest when they do taxes Jessica and maybe Martha has a whole lawsuit case. I didn't want my boyfriend to do it here but know he learn the hard way this place sucks

Litterally had me waiting for over 3hrs. I've seen like 3-4 people who got there after me and left before i did. Not sure why they give me an appointment me at a certain time and keep me waiting. First few times i did taxes here was good but now I'm not sure if I want to do my taxes here again.

I was referred by someone to work with this business in January 4 2021, she told me they were wonderful and she gave me the contact for Martha Velarde. Not sure if she is the owner but I leave several messages, I never got a ny simple response. I called last time in Marz 04 and the told me I have to send documents in order to get a appointment with her. What a shame!!! I don't understand why people have business if they not gonna be able to respond a very simple called.

This family business did incredible work to help my family to solve some years of issues with past due tax preparation and at such at a wonderful price! I can't describe how wonderful everyone there was to help and figure it out and get it done! If you are hesitant, don't wait. People like this are there to help you! Thank you for everyone there! Update in 2018: Back again for both getting my own really old back taxes straightened out, and current taxes handled too! I am impressed again how well she ha

UPDATE All it takes is one person to drop the ball. I have been a customer here for many and many years. Before I arrived I called to see if I needed an appointment because I know how busy this place can get. I walked in about 5pm and talked to the front desk help named Lucy. I told her I wanted to do my taxes and gave her a specific person I would like to do them with, She told me to have a seat. After 45 min of waiting I go back up to the window and ask if I'll be seen or if they will be taking my

Martha and her team are excellent!! Expect a wait but the payoff is worth it!! She actually cares about her customers and does our taxes as if they were hers! I'll be going to Martha for as long as she's in business!

Scammers... They'll call you initially with nonsense, asking if you set an appointment to do taxes.. First of all, I don't even know who you people are.. Secondly how did you get my number when I've never heard of your business... My taxes have been complete!!! People... Be careful of third parties sharing information..

Worst service around town, they took a lot of time just to fill a paper that I could easily have done myself. Charged me 50 dollars and didn't even send my papers to the IRS office. I was thinking of going back to file my tax returns there now I'm going to find somewhere else to do it. Se aprovechan de las personas que no saben hablar ingl?s o no conocen bien los procedimientos de este pa?s. Es una tristeza que haya gente as?.

Don't go to this place to do your tax refunds service. the ladies in the front desk are very rude they take over 3 months to give me back my tax form and still dont get them because they cant find them and the only answer they gave is please call back at the end of the day and starts over again

I've been coming here the past 4 years. Super helpful and hard working group.

Just got off the phone with a young girl who claimed she used has family working there she was not professional and told me that they were dealing with important people who couldn't talk to me over the phone about my case . Then she started being dissrespectful and asking for my full social over the phone and being rude and didn't want to give me her name and hung up I called again and she kept hanging up like a child Do not come here !

Simply the best. MAV Sevice has done my taxes since the 90's and I wouldn't use anyone else.

They haven't sent my documents, and have passed 3 weeks. I didn't expect that. It's very frustrating.

Frequently Asked Questions

What qualifications should I look for in a CPA?

Look for a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license, which ensures they’ve passed rigorous exams and meet state requirements. Check for relevant experience in your industry, additional certifications like CFA or CMA, and membership in professional organizations like the AICPA. Verify their credentials through state licensing boards.

How do I find a CPA in my area?

Use online directories like the AICPA, CPAverify, or state CPA societies. Search platforms like Yelp or Google for local CPAs with reviews. Ask for referrals from business associates, friends, or financial advisors. Local chambers of commerce can also provide recommendations.

What’s the difference between a CPA and an accountant?

A CPA is a licensed professional who has passed the CPA exam and met state requirements for education and experience. An accountant may lack this certification and could have varying levels of expertise. For complex tasks like tax audits or financial reporting, a CPA is typically more qualified.

How do I know if a CPA specializes in my needs?

Ask about their experience with your specific financial needs, such as tax preparation, small business accounting, or estate planning. Review their website or LinkedIn for case studies or client testimonials. Inquire about their client base to ensure they handle similar financial situations.

Should I check a CPA’s reviews before hiring?

Yes, reviews provide insight into a CPA’s reliability, communication, and performance. Check platforms like Google, Yelp, or the Better Business Bureau for client feedback. Look for patterns in reviews, but verify their authenticity, as some may be biased or outdated.

How can I verify a CPA’s license?

Visit your state’s Board of Accountancy website or use CPAverify.org to check a CPA’s license status. Confirm their license is active and check for any disciplinary actions or complaints. This ensures they’re in good standing and meet professional standards.

What questions should I ask during a CPA consultation?

Ask about their experience with your financial needs, fee structure, availability, and communication style. Inquire how they handle tax filings, audits, or financial planning. Ask for references or examples of similar work to assess their expertise and fit.

How much should I expect to pay for a CPA’s services?

Fees vary based on location, services, and complexity. Basic tax preparation may cost $150-$500, while business accounting or audits can range from $1,000 to $10,000+. Request a detailed fee structure upfront and compare quotes from multiple CPAs.

Can I work with a CPA remotely?

Yes, many CPAs offer remote services through secure online platforms for document sharing and virtual consultations. Ensure they use encrypted tools for data security. Remote CPAs can be effective if they understand your local tax laws or business regulations.

How do I assess a CPA’s communication skills?

During consultations, evaluate their ability to explain complex financial concepts clearly. Ask sample questions about taxes or financial strategies and note their responsiveness and clarity. Good communication ensures you understand their advice and fosters a productive relationship.

What red flags should I watch for when screening a CPA?

Beware of CPAs who guarantee specific tax refunds, lack a valid license, or have disciplinary actions on record. Avoid those with poor communication, vague fee structures, or negative reviews highlighting unethical behavior. Always verify their credentials independently.

Should I choose a CPA from a large firm or a solo practitioner?

Large firms offer more resources and specialized teams but may charge higher fees. Solo practitioners often provide personalized service and lower costs but may have limited availability. Choose based on your needs, budget, and preference for personalized attention.

How often should I meet with my CPA?

For individuals, annual meetings for tax preparation may suffice. Businesses may need quarterly or monthly check-ins for bookkeeping, tax planning, or financial reporting. Discuss your needs upfront to establish a meeting schedule that aligns with your financial goals.

Can a CPA help with both personal and business finances?

Yes, many CPAs handle both, but confirm their expertise in both areas. Ask about their experience managing personal taxes and business accounting simultaneously. Ensure they can balance both without compromising attention to your specific financial needs.

What should I do if I’m not satisfied with my CPA?

Discuss concerns directly with your CPA to resolve issues. If unresolved, check your contract for termination terms. Seek a new CPA by researching reviews, credentials, and referrals. Request your financial records to ensure a smooth transition to a new professional.
