Customer Reviews

This review should have been done a long time ago. Mark Sherman CPA has been excellent the past several years. I would like to thank the entire team and especially Samantha who I've dealt with each year.

This is my second year using mark to prepare my taxes. I find it a pleasure to deal with someone who is competent and friendly. In fact , the whole office is very friendly. I'll be back again next year. Thank you Mark ??

Mark and his team have done great work for me for many years. Highly recommend.

We have appreciated the tax assistance and feedback for improving our overall financial well-being. Staff is wonderful and Mark is a joy every visit! I look forward to many years to come.

I wish I found Mark Sherman years ago. We paid so much on taxes last year. This was our first year with Mark and we get a return! I met with him twice for consulting prior to having our taxes completed. Don?t be afraid to spend a bit to consult. The advice he gave us was well worth the money spent and has saved us literal thousands just this tax year alone. Not to mention it will continue to help us for years to come. At each visit, I was met on time and greeted kindly by his awesome team. Everyone is know

I am working with Mark Sherman CPA for my business financials (bookkeeping), as well as my personal and business tax returns. Mark and his staff are extremely knowledgeable, attentive, responsive, organized and professional. The peace of mind in knowing my affairs are in order, is worth its weight in gold. Thanks Mark, Tiffany, Ashleigh and Stephne!

We found Mark Sherman because we had a tax issue with California from the sale of a house and wanted advice. After our meeting we decided this was going to be our forever tax guy. Just met with Mark again to have our taxes done and get them filed. So glad we didn't try and do it ourselves! We went from thinking we'd owe to getting money back!! If you are skiddish about spending money to have someone else do your taxes or because of past problems with other cpa's this guy will put your mind at ease! He i

Beware! Incompetent tax preparers. We read the positive reviews and had our taxes done by Mark Sherman?s office. Don?t be fooled by the 5 star reviews. His preparers are lazy, don?t listen and made many mistakes on our tax return. If we could leave no stars, we would.

Mark and his team are the utmost of excellence creativity, timeliness, and strategy for my companies has been paramount.

Mark Sherman is articulate, patient, knows his trade, and laws. His office is well run and I could not be happier with the work he has done for myself and my business. Thanks again Mark.

I have been a client of Mark Sherman's for several years and it's the best move I ever made. Mark is fair, and very responsive. He is always quick to get back to me if I have a question or problem. Thanks Mark.

Worst service I've ever experienced. Performed book keeping for me but didn't finish balancing my books until July of the following year. Then waited till the last extension date tax filing were due to finally send me my completed annual tax forms leaving me only a few hours to review, ask questions and make any changes. They were also very hard to get ahold of and nearly neve upheld there commitments.......Not sure how they stay in business.

Mark (and his staff) have been a great help over the past 12 years. I've moved a half dozen times...but always come back to Mark Sherman CPA for my tax planning!

Mark Sherman CPA has been doing my accounting and taxes for at least a Decade. I would not go anywhere else because of the fantastic service and the knowledgeable associates. Thanks Mark for all the years of great service and advice Barry Channing

Mark is knowledgeable, personable, and seems to genuinely care about his clients best interest. I can?t recommend him enough.

Very unprofessional! Last year, due to their incompetence, I've had to wait FOUR MONTHS for them to complete my business taxes and every time I called then for a follow-up, they always had an excuse as to they are going to get to it. Mark Sherman himself said it should have taken only 2 weeks to finish. Never doing business with them again!

Throughout our lives we have worked with a couple different tax accountants and BY FAR...Mark is THE BEST that we have ever worked with and it's not even close.

Mark is one of the kindest, most professional CPAs I've had the pleasure to work with. I wouldn't go anywhere else with my taxes.

Mark and his staff have been most helpful. Over the years the level of service has been consistent. I would recommend Mark and his staff to any individual or business.

Been using their services past 10 years always professional and helpful

Great accountant for self-employed people. I have rental units and a few other sources of income and this CPA does a great job every year for me!

Exceptional service and the ultimate in professionalism. Always performs in a timely manner. I would recommend to anyone.

Were not helpful at all! Did not return my phone calls or emails. Left me hanging and at the last minute had to find another cpa. Would not reccomebd to anyone! He?s NOT worth $300 an hour!!!

I moved to California, but I still come back to Mark....he is the best!

Frequently Asked Questions

What qualifications should I look for in a CPA?

Look for a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license, which ensures they’ve passed rigorous exams and meet state requirements. Check for relevant experience in your industry, additional certifications like CFA or CMA, and membership in professional organizations like the AICPA. Verify their credentials through state licensing boards.

How do I find a CPA in my area?

Use online directories like the AICPA, CPAverify, or state CPA societies. Search platforms like Yelp or Google for local CPAs with reviews. Ask for referrals from business associates, friends, or financial advisors. Local chambers of commerce can also provide recommendations.

What’s the difference between a CPA and an accountant?

A CPA is a licensed professional who has passed the CPA exam and met state requirements for education and experience. An accountant may lack this certification and could have varying levels of expertise. For complex tasks like tax audits or financial reporting, a CPA is typically more qualified.

How do I know if a CPA specializes in my needs?

Ask about their experience with your specific financial needs, such as tax preparation, small business accounting, or estate planning. Review their website or LinkedIn for case studies or client testimonials. Inquire about their client base to ensure they handle similar financial situations.

Should I check a CPA’s reviews before hiring?

Yes, reviews provide insight into a CPA’s reliability, communication, and performance. Check platforms like Google, Yelp, or the Better Business Bureau for client feedback. Look for patterns in reviews, but verify their authenticity, as some may be biased or outdated.

How can I verify a CPA’s license?

Visit your state’s Board of Accountancy website or use CPAverify.org to check a CPA’s license status. Confirm their license is active and check for any disciplinary actions or complaints. This ensures they’re in good standing and meet professional standards.

What questions should I ask during a CPA consultation?

Ask about their experience with your financial needs, fee structure, availability, and communication style. Inquire how they handle tax filings, audits, or financial planning. Ask for references or examples of similar work to assess their expertise and fit.

How much should I expect to pay for a CPA’s services?

Fees vary based on location, services, and complexity. Basic tax preparation may cost $150-$500, while business accounting or audits can range from $1,000 to $10,000+. Request a detailed fee structure upfront and compare quotes from multiple CPAs.

Can I work with a CPA remotely?

Yes, many CPAs offer remote services through secure online platforms for document sharing and virtual consultations. Ensure they use encrypted tools for data security. Remote CPAs can be effective if they understand your local tax laws or business regulations.

How do I assess a CPA’s communication skills?

During consultations, evaluate their ability to explain complex financial concepts clearly. Ask sample questions about taxes or financial strategies and note their responsiveness and clarity. Good communication ensures you understand their advice and fosters a productive relationship.

What red flags should I watch for when screening a CPA?

Beware of CPAs who guarantee specific tax refunds, lack a valid license, or have disciplinary actions on record. Avoid those with poor communication, vague fee structures, or negative reviews highlighting unethical behavior. Always verify their credentials independently.

Should I choose a CPA from a large firm or a solo practitioner?

Large firms offer more resources and specialized teams but may charge higher fees. Solo practitioners often provide personalized service and lower costs but may have limited availability. Choose based on your needs, budget, and preference for personalized attention.

How often should I meet with my CPA?

For individuals, annual meetings for tax preparation may suffice. Businesses may need quarterly or monthly check-ins for bookkeeping, tax planning, or financial reporting. Discuss your needs upfront to establish a meeting schedule that aligns with your financial goals.

Can a CPA help with both personal and business finances?

Yes, many CPAs handle both, but confirm their expertise in both areas. Ask about their experience managing personal taxes and business accounting simultaneously. Ensure they can balance both without compromising attention to your specific financial needs.

What should I do if I’m not satisfied with my CPA?

Discuss concerns directly with your CPA to resolve issues. If unresolved, check your contract for termination terms. Seek a new CPA by researching reviews, credentials, and referrals. Request your financial records to ensure a smooth transition to a new professional.
