Customer Reviews

Very unclear communication, the front desk lady gave us incorrect information about joint filing, we emailed and called several times and they never got back to us, unsure if they even filed our taxes even though we signed an agreement. Edit: They reached out to us after we left this review and were very willing to help and correct the situation, even giving us a discount on our their fee! Talking directly to the accountant was a lot more clear than dealing with the front desk and they were very helpful? s

We have been a client for the past 5 years and have had nothing but good professional service. This time a year is a very busy time of year for them but I have received responses and our taxes were done timely. I would highly recommend them

MauldinVaught has been assisting our family with AR and Missouri taxes for the past 10 years... extremely helpful and always professional.

Everyone that I've had the pleasure of meeting has been friendly, knowledgable, efficient, and organized. It's one less thing I have to worry about.

I have been trying unsuccessfully for 3 almost 4 weeks now for someone in the office to contact me regarding becoming a new client of the firm. I have spoken with to 2 different individuals and I have also submitted my information online through the website. The last person I spoke with ensured me they would relay my information and would call me right away. That call was 6 days ago.

Mike provided fantastic guidance and advice regarding property that my wife and I were looking to commercialize. His assessment and advice was professional and thorough, and I know they?ll be there for us moving forward for years to come.

Cannot express how disappointed I am with the service received (or lack there of) from Christian. Mauldin Vaught has provided support with our personal taxes for quite sometime without issue. After meeting with him for a consult regarding my small business he was supposed to begin providing services for this. After numerous emails and phone calls (beginning 7/9/22), nothing has been done and emails/phone messages have not been returned.

I haven?t started the tax process yet, but Carrie has been fantastic and Christain was also so helpful over the phone. I have friends who are always happy with these guys so I am excited and hopeful!

I have been using Mike for over a decade. I moved away from Arkansas years ago and he still does my taxes. His team does a great job and I would highly recommend using Mauldin Vaught CPA.

Outstanding CPA and consultant - working with Mike and his team since moving to AR and having a business has been invaluable to help me properly plan estimated tax payments and learn how to optimize profits with my tax returns, and setting up my LLC. I highly recommend this firm.

I contacted and met with Mike Mauldin several months ago since I knew as a first time business owner I would need help around tax season and with random questions. Called and asked to schedule a meeting, receptionist told me quarterly tax payments were due Jan 31 and I believed her, so we scheduled for Jan 16. Found out they are actually due Jan 15 and when I call to try and get help estimating them, am fired as a client. First time calling to get assistance and am fired. They also didn't file my S corp app

This is a great company! I had a incompetent CPA for a couple of years before I found Mauldin Vaught. They cleaned up the previous CPA's mess and got my business back on track. I can not thank these guys enough. If you want a high quality CPA that knows what he is doing, this is your guy! Wonderful staff too.

We switched to Mike after using the same accountant for 12 years. I wish we'd done it years earlier. He refiled last years' taxes and we were able to get an extra $1400 refund. He saved me $8000 in taxes by making one simple change in the way we were filing. Not only is he a kind soul, he's crazy smart and I couldn't recommend him enough. If you're thinking about changing - DO IT NOW! You will not regret it. He never missed a beat even though we'd been with someone else for so long and he made the pro

Excellent Service. Timely and professional. We greatly appreciated the prompt and efficient tax preparation and contractors license renewal.

Always helpful and knowledgeable. I?m an an accountant and I love how they take care of me! You cannot go wrong choosing Mauldin Vaught CPA.

It's nice knowing my taxes are being done right every time. I have no worry at all when I have Mauldin Vaught do my taxes. I highly recommend them!

We have been with Mike and, of course, MV, from virtually the beginning. We would never even consider anyone else. THE BEST! THE MOST PROFESSIONAL! THE MOST SUPERLATIVE (add any positive adjective here)!

I really enjoy working with Mauldin Vaught. I have confidence in their work and they have been a trusted partner as I have grown my business.

Just called and spoke with the rudest Carrie I have ever encountered. She didn?t have any kind of phone etiquette at all.

Mike was very nice and took over our customer experience first hand. He?s been good to us.

Have been a client for a decade. Always professional and courteous. Have tested his work against others and he always comes out way ahead.

We keep coming back year after year because they always do a great job.

Very honest, and knowledgeable!

Frequently Asked Questions

What qualifications should I look for in a CPA?

Look for a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license, which ensures they’ve passed rigorous exams and meet state requirements. Check for relevant experience in your industry, additional certifications like CFA or CMA, and membership in professional organizations like the AICPA. Verify their credentials through state licensing boards.

How do I find a CPA in my area?

Use online directories like the AICPA, CPAverify, or state CPA societies. Search platforms like Yelp or Google for local CPAs with reviews. Ask for referrals from business associates, friends, or financial advisors. Local chambers of commerce can also provide recommendations.

What’s the difference between a CPA and an accountant?

A CPA is a licensed professional who has passed the CPA exam and met state requirements for education and experience. An accountant may lack this certification and could have varying levels of expertise. For complex tasks like tax audits or financial reporting, a CPA is typically more qualified.

How do I know if a CPA specializes in my needs?

Ask about their experience with your specific financial needs, such as tax preparation, small business accounting, or estate planning. Review their website or LinkedIn for case studies or client testimonials. Inquire about their client base to ensure they handle similar financial situations.

Should I check a CPA’s reviews before hiring?

Yes, reviews provide insight into a CPA’s reliability, communication, and performance. Check platforms like Google, Yelp, or the Better Business Bureau for client feedback. Look for patterns in reviews, but verify their authenticity, as some may be biased or outdated.

How can I verify a CPA’s license?

Visit your state’s Board of Accountancy website or use CPAverify.org to check a CPA’s license status. Confirm their license is active and check for any disciplinary actions or complaints. This ensures they’re in good standing and meet professional standards.

What questions should I ask during a CPA consultation?

Ask about their experience with your financial needs, fee structure, availability, and communication style. Inquire how they handle tax filings, audits, or financial planning. Ask for references or examples of similar work to assess their expertise and fit.

How much should I expect to pay for a CPA’s services?

Fees vary based on location, services, and complexity. Basic tax preparation may cost $150-$500, while business accounting or audits can range from $1,000 to $10,000+. Request a detailed fee structure upfront and compare quotes from multiple CPAs.

Can I work with a CPA remotely?

Yes, many CPAs offer remote services through secure online platforms for document sharing and virtual consultations. Ensure they use encrypted tools for data security. Remote CPAs can be effective if they understand your local tax laws or business regulations.

How do I assess a CPA’s communication skills?

During consultations, evaluate their ability to explain complex financial concepts clearly. Ask sample questions about taxes or financial strategies and note their responsiveness and clarity. Good communication ensures you understand their advice and fosters a productive relationship.

What red flags should I watch for when screening a CPA?

Beware of CPAs who guarantee specific tax refunds, lack a valid license, or have disciplinary actions on record. Avoid those with poor communication, vague fee structures, or negative reviews highlighting unethical behavior. Always verify their credentials independently.

Should I choose a CPA from a large firm or a solo practitioner?

Large firms offer more resources and specialized teams but may charge higher fees. Solo practitioners often provide personalized service and lower costs but may have limited availability. Choose based on your needs, budget, and preference for personalized attention.

How often should I meet with my CPA?

For individuals, annual meetings for tax preparation may suffice. Businesses may need quarterly or monthly check-ins for bookkeeping, tax planning, or financial reporting. Discuss your needs upfront to establish a meeting schedule that aligns with your financial goals.

Can a CPA help with both personal and business finances?

Yes, many CPAs handle both, but confirm their expertise in both areas. Ask about their experience managing personal taxes and business accounting simultaneously. Ensure they can balance both without compromising attention to your specific financial needs.

What should I do if I’m not satisfied with my CPA?

Discuss concerns directly with your CPA to resolve issues. If unresolved, check your contract for termination terms. Seek a new CPA by researching reviews, credentials, and referrals. Request your financial records to ensure a smooth transition to a new professional.
