This is the best place ever. My husband and I have been running a small business in Elk Grove for 13 years and Mary has been our CPA for 10 of those years. She is incredibly organized and we can always count on her to pick up the phone if we have any sort of tax question. Last night we were just talking about how much we trust this business and are so fortunate we found them. We work with our local police dept and fire dept and our work very important to us. We wouldn?t go anywhere else.
I called around all over Elk Grove if any office is taking new clients. Trish took my call and explained the situation why most CPA offices aren?t taking new clients. Other offices said ?no new clients, sorry. Good bye.? So, if there is an opening here, I will hire them as our CPA since Trish took her time to explain. Very caring person. Thank you
I wholeheartedly recommend McGovern, Planesi, & Walters, particularly Robert Planesi. He was patient and attentive to my aging mother's needs. He managed her tax filings and the tax issues that came up as she became an employer to caregivers. With so very many things to worry about with my mother, I was relieved that tax guidance wasn't one of them. We had honest and reliable counsel. Robert is one of the most honest, decent, responsive, and knowledgeable CPAs out there.
I've used MPW for many years and I dread the day that any of them retire. Their entire firm does impeccable work. I've worked most extensively with Robert Planesi on fairly complex tax matters and on a series of businesses. I'm an experienced CFO and I still consider Robert my most trusted advisor. I also know I can rely on anyone else in the firm if Robert is not available. I've received sage guidance from each of them on many matters, from individual and business tax issues to trust and retirement issues
I am a small business owner, and have had trouble in the past finding an honorable and caring CPA to help me navigate the proper ins and outs of business ownership. There are so many loopholes, and I wanted to make sure I was doing everything "right"... well, my worrying days are over! Since moving to the Sacramento area, I've been lucky enough to find Rob Planesi (he was referred to me by someone I trust immensely), and since he's taken over, I feel a huge weight off my back. Rob took the time to listen to
Mary Walters has prepared my taxes for 10 years. She helped me avoid the consequences of a disaster created by my previous accountant. Thanks to her I have not run into some of the tax problems so many small business are plagued with. Her advise is straight forward and honest.
Worst than H&R Block. If you are looking for a professional Accounting and CPA services, look somewhere else. Robert Planesi, CPA is very unprofessional and un caring. If you are a small business owner and want a dependable services and want to stay away from IRS-Robert Planesi is not the one for you. MPW is a great CPA firm to fill out 1040 EZ Forms, if you have any complex matter than 1040 EZ, this is not the place for you. Go somewhere else.
Mr. Planesi and his staff are professional, thorough, and completely responsive. I have yet to meet a CPA who is as knowledgeable as Mr. Planesi. I highly recommend him and will continue to recommend him to all my friends and family.
Mary Walters should be president! She is so thorough, thoughtful and throws in a little counseling for you on the side! Used this company for years: fair and always on time! 10 stars...
Sheila is a friendly, dedicated CPA. I found her through my mother in law. Sheila is so good at her job and I always feel I am in the presence of a professional.
I can't express how thankful I am for the incredible work done by Robert here. Will be a forever MPW customer for all my tax needs!
I wonder who their janitor is because that house is spotless!
Look for a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license, which ensures they’ve passed rigorous exams and meet state requirements. Check for relevant experience in your industry, additional certifications like CFA or CMA, and membership in professional organizations like the AICPA. Verify their credentials through state licensing boards.
Use online directories like the AICPA, CPAverify, or state CPA societies. Search platforms like Yelp or Google for local CPAs with reviews. Ask for referrals from business associates, friends, or financial advisors. Local chambers of commerce can also provide recommendations.
A CPA is a licensed professional who has passed the CPA exam and met state requirements for education and experience. An accountant may lack this certification and could have varying levels of expertise. For complex tasks like tax audits or financial reporting, a CPA is typically more qualified.
Ask about their experience with your specific financial needs, such as tax preparation, small business accounting, or estate planning. Review their website or LinkedIn for case studies or client testimonials. Inquire about their client base to ensure they handle similar financial situations.
Yes, reviews provide insight into a CPA’s reliability, communication, and performance. Check platforms like Google, Yelp, or the Better Business Bureau for client feedback. Look for patterns in reviews, but verify their authenticity, as some may be biased or outdated.
Visit your state’s Board of Accountancy website or use CPAverify.org to check a CPA’s license status. Confirm their license is active and check for any disciplinary actions or complaints. This ensures they’re in good standing and meet professional standards.
Ask about their experience with your financial needs, fee structure, availability, and communication style. Inquire how they handle tax filings, audits, or financial planning. Ask for references or examples of similar work to assess their expertise and fit.
Fees vary based on location, services, and complexity. Basic tax preparation may cost $150-$500, while business accounting or audits can range from $1,000 to $10,000+. Request a detailed fee structure upfront and compare quotes from multiple CPAs.
Yes, many CPAs offer remote services through secure online platforms for document sharing and virtual consultations. Ensure they use encrypted tools for data security. Remote CPAs can be effective if they understand your local tax laws or business regulations.
During consultations, evaluate their ability to explain complex financial concepts clearly. Ask sample questions about taxes or financial strategies and note their responsiveness and clarity. Good communication ensures you understand their advice and fosters a productive relationship.
Beware of CPAs who guarantee specific tax refunds, lack a valid license, or have disciplinary actions on record. Avoid those with poor communication, vague fee structures, or negative reviews highlighting unethical behavior. Always verify their credentials independently.
Large firms offer more resources and specialized teams but may charge higher fees. Solo practitioners often provide personalized service and lower costs but may have limited availability. Choose based on your needs, budget, and preference for personalized attention.
For individuals, annual meetings for tax preparation may suffice. Businesses may need quarterly or monthly check-ins for bookkeeping, tax planning, or financial reporting. Discuss your needs upfront to establish a meeting schedule that aligns with your financial goals.
Yes, many CPAs handle both, but confirm their expertise in both areas. Ask about their experience managing personal taxes and business accounting simultaneously. Ensure they can balance both without compromising attention to your specific financial needs.
Discuss concerns directly with your CPA to resolve issues. If unresolved, check your contract for termination terms. Seek a new CPA by researching reviews, credentials, and referrals. Request your financial records to ensure a smooth transition to a new professional.
