I?m still not 100% confident our taxes were prepared correctly this year. We paid over $1000 to have our taxes done this year but the guy wouldn?t even come out of his office to review them when they were done. She asked him to come out and he said no. The one star is for the lady who greets people at the front, five stars for her.
We have been using Mt. Hood Tax & Accounting for the last several years. They have always provided great service and a fair value. The staff is friendly, returns are done promptly, and accurately. Sean Berry is always available to answer any questions and responds to emails in a timely manner. I recommend their service to others.
We have been very satisfied with the yearly tax preparation process. In addition, we have received excellent input related to our family trust and specifically with a complicated issue with some property. We would recommend this office to anyone, without reservation.
I have been very happy over the many years I have used Mt. Hood Tax & Accounting services. I've found that all my interactions with any of the staff have always been very courteous & patient & they are able to answer my questions or take care of any problems I may have, including with the tech. I highly recommend Mt. Hood Tax services!
We have nothing but positives to report! We had been with another accounting professional for decades but they retired, so we decided to use Mt Hood TAX, and were very pleased with the whole process. They were responsive to all of our questions and we were very satisfied with the final outcome. We look forward to many years of working with this group.
My husband has been using Mt. Hood Tax for over 20 years. The CPA he had been using with this firm left but we decided to stay with Mt. Hood Tax. Since this change of staff we have been deeply unsatisfied. We have been receiving communications from the IRS and the city of Portland that we either over paid on taxes or some taxes not paid at all and there incurred fines and lates fees. We have decided to take our business elsewhere.
The personnel are friendly and knowledgeable and always available to help you with any problems. I am not a good technology person so do have trouble with their online login and procedures. However, I was able to drop off my tax documents to David and he had my taxes ready in a short time!
This is my second year getting my taxes completed by a Mt. Hoot Tax. I was doing it myself and this has taken the pressure off for a very reasonable cost. Very easy to work with and has improved my life considerably the last few springs!
Excellent CPA counsel and work. Highly satisfied with the integrity and thoroughness provided by Mt. Hood Tax & Accounting. I've been a client for over 5 years and will remain so for the next 5 years or more.
Mt. Hood Tax & Accounting Professionals did an excellent job handling my taxes. They were thorough and timely with their work. I highly recommend their service.
I have only compliments to share about the staff. As always, Cary was thorough and punctual--a great team! My only snag was with using their software. Since I am 80, it's probably just me.
Friendly knowledgeable staff. They?re quick to assist us with any tax issues or questions we have. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Mt.Hood Tax and Accounting is a great office whose staff is very professional. They provided very efficient services.
Have called this business several times inquiring about using their services, told I would receive a call back. Never received a call back. Called one more time this morning and inquired about their process for taking new clients, the person covering the desk said that they are very busy and new clients must be cleared with the owner. It would have been nice to hear that in the beginning. Seems like an odd way to run a business.
Really enjoyed working with the people at Mt. Hood Tax, very helpful, would highly recommend them.
I have had a great experience with Mt Hood TAX & Accounting and would highly recommend them.
4th year using the great folks at Mt. Hood. Reasonable prices and excellent results.
Derek is awesome! He's worked with us for a number of years through complicated situations. Recommended!
If you value good communication, customer service, accounting expertise, helpful guidance, then I would strongly NOT recommend. Very poor service.
Amazing firm! Would highly recommend
Always a very professional group to work with.
Look for a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license, which ensures they’ve passed rigorous exams and meet state requirements. Check for relevant experience in your industry, additional certifications like CFA or CMA, and membership in professional organizations like the AICPA. Verify their credentials through state licensing boards.
Use online directories like the AICPA, CPAverify, or state CPA societies. Search platforms like Yelp or Google for local CPAs with reviews. Ask for referrals from business associates, friends, or financial advisors. Local chambers of commerce can also provide recommendations.
A CPA is a licensed professional who has passed the CPA exam and met state requirements for education and experience. An accountant may lack this certification and could have varying levels of expertise. For complex tasks like tax audits or financial reporting, a CPA is typically more qualified.
Ask about their experience with your specific financial needs, such as tax preparation, small business accounting, or estate planning. Review their website or LinkedIn for case studies or client testimonials. Inquire about their client base to ensure they handle similar financial situations.
Yes, reviews provide insight into a CPA’s reliability, communication, and performance. Check platforms like Google, Yelp, or the Better Business Bureau for client feedback. Look for patterns in reviews, but verify their authenticity, as some may be biased or outdated.
Visit your state’s Board of Accountancy website or use CPAverify.org to check a CPA’s license status. Confirm their license is active and check for any disciplinary actions or complaints. This ensures they’re in good standing and meet professional standards.
Ask about their experience with your financial needs, fee structure, availability, and communication style. Inquire how they handle tax filings, audits, or financial planning. Ask for references or examples of similar work to assess their expertise and fit.
Fees vary based on location, services, and complexity. Basic tax preparation may cost $150-$500, while business accounting or audits can range from $1,000 to $10,000+. Request a detailed fee structure upfront and compare quotes from multiple CPAs.
Yes, many CPAs offer remote services through secure online platforms for document sharing and virtual consultations. Ensure they use encrypted tools for data security. Remote CPAs can be effective if they understand your local tax laws or business regulations.
During consultations, evaluate their ability to explain complex financial concepts clearly. Ask sample questions about taxes or financial strategies and note their responsiveness and clarity. Good communication ensures you understand their advice and fosters a productive relationship.
Beware of CPAs who guarantee specific tax refunds, lack a valid license, or have disciplinary actions on record. Avoid those with poor communication, vague fee structures, or negative reviews highlighting unethical behavior. Always verify their credentials independently.
Large firms offer more resources and specialized teams but may charge higher fees. Solo practitioners often provide personalized service and lower costs but may have limited availability. Choose based on your needs, budget, and preference for personalized attention.
For individuals, annual meetings for tax preparation may suffice. Businesses may need quarterly or monthly check-ins for bookkeeping, tax planning, or financial reporting. Discuss your needs upfront to establish a meeting schedule that aligns with your financial goals.
Yes, many CPAs handle both, but confirm their expertise in both areas. Ask about their experience managing personal taxes and business accounting simultaneously. Ensure they can balance both without compromising attention to your specific financial needs.
Discuss concerns directly with your CPA to resolve issues. If unresolved, check your contract for termination terms. Seek a new CPA by researching reviews, credentials, and referrals. Request your financial records to ensure a smooth transition to a new professional.
