I hired Christian Montgomery to handle my tax debt issue with the IRS, and I am so glad I did. Christian provided me prompt communication, always answered my questions and kept me apprised of our progress in the case. Most importantly, Christian obtained excellent results in this legal matter. I would highly recommend Christian for any tax issue. Top caliber representation!

I hired Christian when the IRS issued a Trust Fund Recovery against me. I had never even heard of such a thing, and didn't know where to begin with defense. Christian explained the situation, process, and guided me through the entire process. He was realistic about the possibility of a positive outcome, and advised me on worst case scenario. Christian was easy to communicate with, kept me apprised of the progress in my case, and responsive to my questions. Against the odds, he obtained excellent result

To anyone looking for a great and reputable tax attorney(s) at a reasonable price, I highly recommend Montgomery & Wetenkamp. The day my husband and I received a 30 day tax lien for a debt of $26,000 (plus penalty fees), our lives at that moment became very stressful and hopeless. After searching for relief, I came across Montgomery & Wetenkamp website, gave them a call and was impressed with the amount of information Christian Montgomery had provided me with. Hiring him was the one of the best choices I

I highly recommend Montgomery & Wetenkamp. Three years after moving out of state, I received a notice from the California Franchise Tax Board (FTB) that a significant amount of taxes plus interest and late fees were owed for a year I neither worked nor lived in California. It just so happened I was six months pregnant when I received the notice and attempting to save up for an unpaid maternity leave- needless to say communication during this time was key to reducing my anxiety. Not only did Mr. Montgomery f

I want to say THANK YOU !!! to the Law firm of Montgomery & Wetenkamp Mr. Montgomery was amazing in handling my very complicated tax case. He was honest from the very beginning, he was very patient with me with all my questions and my melt downs. He is very Ethical, Kind, and He is very knowledgeable in the tax laws and worked hard and diligently on my case. He was able and worked hard to solved a BIG tax problem for me. I now have piece of mind. Thank you again for everything!! Gloria E.

I am at work one day and finance plops down an envelope - enclosed is a deduction of 50% of my gross paycheck. The feeling of knowing you are going to loose everything at that moment cannot be described. If you are reading this, it might be something you are experiencing right now. I knew for years I had an outstanding IRS debt out there, but hey it was okay to ignore it. Maybe they had forgotten, even though they had a personal lien against me for over $80,000. I did an internet search and looked around. D

Christian did an amazing job for me negotiating my tax debt with the IRS. He walked me through every step of the way and never over promised anything but he did over deliver. 100% recommend Christian to go to work for you if you are in tax trouble. A+ job. Thanks again Christian.

Chris Montgomery charged way too much money only to disappoint at the end. I was a client at one point of his career. Gave false promises, insinuated a lot, unorganized, and has no positive-outcome influence. Told me everything will be alright in the end, but it's totally not. He just wants your money and will leech you for more. Beware, you have been warned. His partner, Wetenkamp, seems to be better and sincere. I won't be shocked if Wetenkamp drops out of their practice later on. Look elsewhere.

Christian. Hard to know what say. I went to him. With what my accountant called a "Hot mess.". I needed to file some returns. He recommended Jennifer Swyane. He stoppped any tax liens. I filed my taxes. Within a year a i had refund from the state. He arranged a low monthly payment. To the irs. I'll be done With the payments in a few months. I recommended Christian to everybody..

Christian helped me at one of the lowest points of my life. He was understanding and I would and have recommended him. If you think that you are capable of handling your problems ... it's a different ballgame with far better results if you hire Christian.

Mr. Montgomery was extremely helpful and informative. He was able to resolved my tax issue when I thought it was hopeless.

Called and exposed my problem. The guy who answered asked me if I owed a lot of money and I said no (because it's another matter) and practically didn't want to have nothing to do with it. Told me literally to try "someone who would do it for free" as if I was asking for a discount. I never asked for it. Disgusting

By far the best investment I've made in the last two years. This attorney is an ace! Take the words from someone who knows first hand. You will be very glad you did!

Frequently Asked Questions

What qualifications should I look for in a CPA?

Look for a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license, which ensures they’ve passed rigorous exams and meet state requirements. Check for relevant experience in your industry, additional certifications like CFA or CMA, and membership in professional organizations like the AICPA. Verify their credentials through state licensing boards.

How do I find a CPA in my area?

Use online directories like the AICPA, CPAverify, or state CPA societies. Search platforms like Yelp or Google for local CPAs with reviews. Ask for referrals from business associates, friends, or financial advisors. Local chambers of commerce can also provide recommendations.

What’s the difference between a CPA and an accountant?

A CPA is a licensed professional who has passed the CPA exam and met state requirements for education and experience. An accountant may lack this certification and could have varying levels of expertise. For complex tasks like tax audits or financial reporting, a CPA is typically more qualified.

How do I know if a CPA specializes in my needs?

Ask about their experience with your specific financial needs, such as tax preparation, small business accounting, or estate planning. Review their website or LinkedIn for case studies or client testimonials. Inquire about their client base to ensure they handle similar financial situations.

Should I check a CPA’s reviews before hiring?

Yes, reviews provide insight into a CPA’s reliability, communication, and performance. Check platforms like Google, Yelp, or the Better Business Bureau for client feedback. Look for patterns in reviews, but verify their authenticity, as some may be biased or outdated.

How can I verify a CPA’s license?

Visit your state’s Board of Accountancy website or use CPAverify.org to check a CPA’s license status. Confirm their license is active and check for any disciplinary actions or complaints. This ensures they’re in good standing and meet professional standards.

What questions should I ask during a CPA consultation?

Ask about their experience with your financial needs, fee structure, availability, and communication style. Inquire how they handle tax filings, audits, or financial planning. Ask for references or examples of similar work to assess their expertise and fit.

How much should I expect to pay for a CPA’s services?

Fees vary based on location, services, and complexity. Basic tax preparation may cost $150-$500, while business accounting or audits can range from $1,000 to $10,000+. Request a detailed fee structure upfront and compare quotes from multiple CPAs.

Can I work with a CPA remotely?

Yes, many CPAs offer remote services through secure online platforms for document sharing and virtual consultations. Ensure they use encrypted tools for data security. Remote CPAs can be effective if they understand your local tax laws or business regulations.

How do I assess a CPA’s communication skills?

During consultations, evaluate their ability to explain complex financial concepts clearly. Ask sample questions about taxes or financial strategies and note their responsiveness and clarity. Good communication ensures you understand their advice and fosters a productive relationship.

What red flags should I watch for when screening a CPA?

Beware of CPAs who guarantee specific tax refunds, lack a valid license, or have disciplinary actions on record. Avoid those with poor communication, vague fee structures, or negative reviews highlighting unethical behavior. Always verify their credentials independently.

Should I choose a CPA from a large firm or a solo practitioner?

Large firms offer more resources and specialized teams but may charge higher fees. Solo practitioners often provide personalized service and lower costs but may have limited availability. Choose based on your needs, budget, and preference for personalized attention.

How often should I meet with my CPA?

For individuals, annual meetings for tax preparation may suffice. Businesses may need quarterly or monthly check-ins for bookkeeping, tax planning, or financial reporting. Discuss your needs upfront to establish a meeting schedule that aligns with your financial goals.

Can a CPA help with both personal and business finances?

Yes, many CPAs handle both, but confirm their expertise in both areas. Ask about their experience managing personal taxes and business accounting simultaneously. Ensure they can balance both without compromising attention to your specific financial needs.

What should I do if I’m not satisfied with my CPA?

Discuss concerns directly with your CPA to resolve issues. If unresolved, check your contract for termination terms. Seek a new CPA by researching reviews, credentials, and referrals. Request your financial records to ensure a smooth transition to a new professional.
