What a wonderful experience! We needed a lot of help with our LLC's and My Personal CPA's helped us every step of the way. Special shout out to Cassandra Passmore. Cassandra has been there throughout the entire process and is an absolute gem. She is knowledgeable, detail oriented, organized, timely and hands down fantastic! I highly, highly recommend!
When we started our small business in 2018, we interviewed several CPA companies on the island. Once we met with My Personal CPAs, we knew we had found the right one. Their expertise helped us set up our and run our company exactly as per our business and financial goals. We recently sold our business to retire, and are so proud to see it continue to thrive. We literally could not have done it without My Personal CPAs. Highly recommended!
This was our first experience with Kenyata. She was very professional, efficient and friendly. She met all of our needs. We can highly recommend her and will be continuing with her services in the coming years.
We have utilized MyPersonalCPA for 6 years now. Would like to recognize Ms Zhanique Jones for her professionalism, customer service, and timeliness in completing our returns this year. Always satisfied with their services.
I have had a wonderful experience with this company. Wonderful staff and a quick turn around for what I needed. The CPA?s and staff are knowledgeable and helpful. I will definitely be back and would recommend.
My Personal CPA has been conducting workshops for my company teaching small businesses about budgeting, quickbooks and tax exemptions for companies. They are excellent and really know their stuff. Lisa, Kenyatta and Deshaun?s are a joy to work with.
We?ve been working with Lisa at My Personal CPA for several years and she always does her absolute best in giving business, life, and tax advice, competing multi state tax returns with detailed knowledge of each one, and caring about my family.
Lisa Wells has done our corporate and personal tax returns for 20+ years! She is trustworthy, organized and very knowledgeable in all areas of her business.
DO NOT GO!!!!! They are the worst tax professionals, they only care about the money you pay them. They don?t even ask any question before filling your taxes. They tell you to drop your W2, account number, and that they would give you a call and a call you never get, for been over a month. Would not be surprised if these people are scamming. These ARE NOT the individuals you need to EVER hand your personal financial information to. TOTALLY LOW BALL AND UNPROFESSIONAL, I SAY THIS TO WARN BOTH MY MILITARY FOLK
I do not use these people anymore. Not since Lisa Wells left. I got a distasteful email from the new person there who referred to Lisa as a simple employee! That should tell you something about the people that stayed behind! I left this firm and I am now reconnected to Lisa Wells, a true professional!!
Lisa with My personal CPA was very knowledgeable and efficient with our business and person taxes. Would recommend 10 out of 10 for tax help.
My CPA from 2022 did my taxes and I got a letter from Hawaii telling me I still owed nearly 4k. I spent the next 6 MONTHS trying to get my CPA to find out why. I finally found it when I went in and sat with him while he called and figured it out. Turns out he filled my taxes wrong. We amended the return and I thought it was done. Now, a year later Hawaii reached out again and said I owe them even more. I went by and dropped off the paperwork to get them to fix it about 2 months ago and I have heard nothing
Lisa Wells and the Team always communicate and keep you informed along the way. Very competent and professional group of experts! Mahalo for everything!
Kenyata and her team of professionals at My Personal CPA and Financial Planner are amazing - everyone should go to them! I have used them for three years now, and they have always gone above and beyond without question. They answer any questions you have fully, will meet with you to explain complex tax or financial issues, and will always go out of their way to ensure you are happy and understand the whole picture! Whether you just want your personal taxes done, or if you have a business, rental properties
My business collegue recently had Kenyatta McCoy and her team at My Personal CPA help him with his business?s taxes. After hearing how it went and how much he saved as well as the checks in the mail he?s been getting, I need to get in and switch to them for my business. Sounds like I?m literally losing money everyday not going through their company after what I?ve been hearing and I already have a really good CPA. Not only is their accounting on whole different level above the rest, but their level of cust
I can?t think of a more trustworthy, competent and knowledgeable person to handle our taxes. Lisa is the best!!

Look for a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license, which ensures they’ve passed rigorous exams and meet state requirements. Check for relevant experience in your industry, additional certifications like CFA or CMA, and membership in professional organizations like the AICPA. Verify their credentials through state licensing boards.
Use online directories like the AICPA, CPAverify, or state CPA societies. Search platforms like Yelp or Google for local CPAs with reviews. Ask for referrals from business associates, friends, or financial advisors. Local chambers of commerce can also provide recommendations.
A CPA is a licensed professional who has passed the CPA exam and met state requirements for education and experience. An accountant may lack this certification and could have varying levels of expertise. For complex tasks like tax audits or financial reporting, a CPA is typically more qualified.
Ask about their experience with your specific financial needs, such as tax preparation, small business accounting, or estate planning. Review their website or LinkedIn for case studies or client testimonials. Inquire about their client base to ensure they handle similar financial situations.
Yes, reviews provide insight into a CPA’s reliability, communication, and performance. Check platforms like Google, Yelp, or the Better Business Bureau for client feedback. Look for patterns in reviews, but verify their authenticity, as some may be biased or outdated.
Visit your state’s Board of Accountancy website or use CPAverify.org to check a CPA’s license status. Confirm their license is active and check for any disciplinary actions or complaints. This ensures they’re in good standing and meet professional standards.
Ask about their experience with your financial needs, fee structure, availability, and communication style. Inquire how they handle tax filings, audits, or financial planning. Ask for references or examples of similar work to assess their expertise and fit.
Fees vary based on location, services, and complexity. Basic tax preparation may cost $150-$500, while business accounting or audits can range from $1,000 to $10,000+. Request a detailed fee structure upfront and compare quotes from multiple CPAs.
Yes, many CPAs offer remote services through secure online platforms for document sharing and virtual consultations. Ensure they use encrypted tools for data security. Remote CPAs can be effective if they understand your local tax laws or business regulations.
During consultations, evaluate their ability to explain complex financial concepts clearly. Ask sample questions about taxes or financial strategies and note their responsiveness and clarity. Good communication ensures you understand their advice and fosters a productive relationship.
Beware of CPAs who guarantee specific tax refunds, lack a valid license, or have disciplinary actions on record. Avoid those with poor communication, vague fee structures, or negative reviews highlighting unethical behavior. Always verify their credentials independently.
Large firms offer more resources and specialized teams but may charge higher fees. Solo practitioners often provide personalized service and lower costs but may have limited availability. Choose based on your needs, budget, and preference for personalized attention.
For individuals, annual meetings for tax preparation may suffice. Businesses may need quarterly or monthly check-ins for bookkeeping, tax planning, or financial reporting. Discuss your needs upfront to establish a meeting schedule that aligns with your financial goals.
Yes, many CPAs handle both, but confirm their expertise in both areas. Ask about their experience managing personal taxes and business accounting simultaneously. Ensure they can balance both without compromising attention to your specific financial needs.
Discuss concerns directly with your CPA to resolve issues. If unresolved, check your contract for termination terms. Seek a new CPA by researching reviews, credentials, and referrals. Request your financial records to ensure a smooth transition to a new professional.
