Customer Reviews

Scott has been a great to work with and has saved me a lot of money in taxes. Staff is always very helpful and great to work with.

We moved over to MKS and I have been absolutely blown away with the service, expertise and professionalism. In my previous 11 years in business nobody has come close to the service we are getting now with moving to MKS. No BS, they are legit and I absolutely recommend them. Shoutout to Matt and Ryan specifically...SKOL!

I have been a client for 41 years. I highly recommend this firm, they care for their clients, treat them like family, and do a highly professional job. They review your tax return with you personally and offer excellence guidance on strategies you can execute to minimize your tax liability.

The best place in the metro to get your taxes done . I?ve use them also for 2 audits and both times I came out the winner . Every year they work their magic and get me money back from the evil irs .

Terrible accounting firm. I had my taxes audited/amended (voluntarily) by another firm because something did not seem right over the last 3 years when I would have my business taxes done by Myslajek. I found I literally paid thousands of dollars in taxes that I did not owe. Once my taxes were amended by a smaller firm I recieved refunds back for the last 3 years. I am absolutely frustrated with this firm. I also recommend a smaller firm if you are a small business.

I have been with Myslajek Kemp & Spencer for many years. Chuck Schneider has been instrumental in helping me file my taxes year after year with my multiple businesses. With many moving parts Chuck has been very helpful and patient with me. I would highly recommend Myslajek Kemp & Spencer's services. Many thanks for the years of service.

Greg Kemp is our accountant, now and for several years. We appreciate his knowledge, patience, and demeanor. He and his firm have taken great care of me, my wife, and our small business, saving us significant money and giving us peace of mind over our taxes and income savings. We highly recommend him and his firm to take care of you as well!

Absolutely recommend and so happy we moved over to MKS to take over our taxes. They provide us with top notch service, communication and strategy. More than we expected...SKOL!

Danny, Erik, Zach, and the team have been delightfully refreshing to work with! It's not your typical 'churn clients through' type of environment. They really took the time to learn about my personal and business needs. In today's world, developing a relationship with a professional services firm can be difficult, but with not with the team at MKS!

Just had a great experience with Ryan Kelly of Myslajek, Kemp & Spencer. He was thorough, professional, and timely in the preparation of my business and personal tax returns. Great guy - highly recommend.

If you are a small to medium size business and looking for an accounting firm you can rely on, then keep looking. I was with Myslajek for 15 years, and each year the service got progressively worse. They filed tax returns with my name misspelled, duplicated tax payments and failed to file quarterly returns while contracted to do so. My accountant at times took nearly a week to get back to me, and I often waited an hour or more for scheduled appointments. While I referred many new clients to the firm, I rece

I recently had my taxes done by Scott Myslajek. He made it so easy and worry free. He educated me throughout the process and showed me the difference between doing them yourself. Thanks so much for your help.

Been a customer for 15+ years, but have struggled in past 3. Tax preparation was and continues to be knowledgable but dissatisfied in timelines and billing, specifically it's lack of transparency, Get your billing charges or billable hours up front!

Steer clear. Despite having 4 good years with Myslajek, last year was an exception and they've lost our 3 accounts. We sent our taxes in Feb, we got them May 17th, two hours before the deadline to post mark. Even with a dozen inquiries on the status. Getting them just hours before the deadline didn't leave us any time to review and ask questions.

This firm is great! We will never pick another place to do our taxes! Our accountant makes it so easy. Never again H & R! Highly recommended

Rock star group! Greg is easy to deal with and delivers timely on any and all requests I have. Thanks for setting a standard of excellence among your team.

Fantastic experience! This firm saved me tons of money - they are great to deal with and extremely responsive!! First class service all the way.

Greg Baldus has been wonderful, and so easy to work with. He patiently explains things and is responsive to questions.

My husband and I have been using this service for 4 years and this company has been amazing. Such a wonderful group of people! Very satisfied!

Had a hiccup with the previous years returns. This firm was all over the rectifying of the situation! They've gone above and beyond!!! Client for life! ??

A wonderful Accounting firm with a dynamic and professional staff. Accounting you can count on!!!

Frequently Asked Questions

What qualifications should I look for in a CPA?

Look for a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license, which ensures they’ve passed rigorous exams and meet state requirements. Check for relevant experience in your industry, additional certifications like CFA or CMA, and membership in professional organizations like the AICPA. Verify their credentials through state licensing boards.

How do I find a CPA in my area?

Use online directories like the AICPA, CPAverify, or state CPA societies. Search platforms like Yelp or Google for local CPAs with reviews. Ask for referrals from business associates, friends, or financial advisors. Local chambers of commerce can also provide recommendations.

What’s the difference between a CPA and an accountant?

A CPA is a licensed professional who has passed the CPA exam and met state requirements for education and experience. An accountant may lack this certification and could have varying levels of expertise. For complex tasks like tax audits or financial reporting, a CPA is typically more qualified.

How do I know if a CPA specializes in my needs?

Ask about their experience with your specific financial needs, such as tax preparation, small business accounting, or estate planning. Review their website or LinkedIn for case studies or client testimonials. Inquire about their client base to ensure they handle similar financial situations.

Should I check a CPA’s reviews before hiring?

Yes, reviews provide insight into a CPA’s reliability, communication, and performance. Check platforms like Google, Yelp, or the Better Business Bureau for client feedback. Look for patterns in reviews, but verify their authenticity, as some may be biased or outdated.

How can I verify a CPA’s license?

Visit your state’s Board of Accountancy website or use CPAverify.org to check a CPA’s license status. Confirm their license is active and check for any disciplinary actions or complaints. This ensures they’re in good standing and meet professional standards.

What questions should I ask during a CPA consultation?

Ask about their experience with your financial needs, fee structure, availability, and communication style. Inquire how they handle tax filings, audits, or financial planning. Ask for references or examples of similar work to assess their expertise and fit.

How much should I expect to pay for a CPA’s services?

Fees vary based on location, services, and complexity. Basic tax preparation may cost $150-$500, while business accounting or audits can range from $1,000 to $10,000+. Request a detailed fee structure upfront and compare quotes from multiple CPAs.

Can I work with a CPA remotely?

Yes, many CPAs offer remote services through secure online platforms for document sharing and virtual consultations. Ensure they use encrypted tools for data security. Remote CPAs can be effective if they understand your local tax laws or business regulations.

How do I assess a CPA’s communication skills?

During consultations, evaluate their ability to explain complex financial concepts clearly. Ask sample questions about taxes or financial strategies and note their responsiveness and clarity. Good communication ensures you understand their advice and fosters a productive relationship.

What red flags should I watch for when screening a CPA?

Beware of CPAs who guarantee specific tax refunds, lack a valid license, or have disciplinary actions on record. Avoid those with poor communication, vague fee structures, or negative reviews highlighting unethical behavior. Always verify their credentials independently.

Should I choose a CPA from a large firm or a solo practitioner?

Large firms offer more resources and specialized teams but may charge higher fees. Solo practitioners often provide personalized service and lower costs but may have limited availability. Choose based on your needs, budget, and preference for personalized attention.

How often should I meet with my CPA?

For individuals, annual meetings for tax preparation may suffice. Businesses may need quarterly or monthly check-ins for bookkeeping, tax planning, or financial reporting. Discuss your needs upfront to establish a meeting schedule that aligns with your financial goals.

Can a CPA help with both personal and business finances?

Yes, many CPAs handle both, but confirm their expertise in both areas. Ask about their experience managing personal taxes and business accounting simultaneously. Ensure they can balance both without compromising attention to your specific financial needs.

What should I do if I’m not satisfied with my CPA?

Discuss concerns directly with your CPA to resolve issues. If unresolved, check your contract for termination terms. Seek a new CPA by researching reviews, credentials, and referrals. Request your financial records to ensure a smooth transition to a new professional.
