Customer Reviews

We've been using Nova Tax for the last few years. We've only had good experiences that left us feeling confident that everything was done correctly. The staff is always very kind and welcoming. Tami, the owner, has been phenomenal over the last couple of months as we've had some huge life changes. She's incredibly knowledgeable! She has happily answered all of my questions during every phone call. As long as we continue to file taxes in California, we will continue to use Nova Tax!!

If I could give this business zero stars I would. Tami lies about everything. She gave me at least 10 dates when she would be done with my taxes and has never finished them. I do not trust her and the one time she did my taxes, the IRS gave me a huge refund because she did them wrong. The security of this business is non-existent as is the integrity of the owner. I stand by what I said. She lied over and over again. I tried supporting a local, minority-owned business so I made many allowances in an ef

Nova tax is really great. They care about their customers. I learned of them from my elderly uncle who has used them for a number of years. Knowledgeable, friendly and put the effort to help him get all his paperwork in order. I would go back to them.

Novatax saved my business so much money on our taxes! The office is filled with great people. Owner Tami is sharp and friendly. Ramona is a whizz at organization. They're also very easy to contact and promptly reply to their messages.

Tami is a rockstar! She not only fixed prior years of incorrect personal and business tax filings, but also has me feeling ready for the upcoming tax year. Tami is patient and understanding with me, while relentless with getting my situation fixed. I highly recommend her and her team at Nova Tax Consultant.

Tammy has been working with me to get control of my taxes. Very persistent and knowledgeable, what seemed to have been a never ending debocoal has been chipped away to a basic state by Tammy and her team. I will always give my recommendations to Nova Tax.

Tami is awesome! She made my my 2018 return go smooth & easy. She even helped me get a refund on my 2017 taxes for some things my previous preparer missed. Appreciate you Tami!!

I used Nova Tax this past tax season and had a wonderful experience. Cindy was amazing. She was friendly and knowledgable and answered all my questions. I will definitely be back next year.

Making an appointment was easy. Tami is very helpful and she made sure that everything was made correctly. She is sweet and a God fearing person. I recommend Nova Tax Consultant to everyone.

Tami and her crew are so detailed oriented, friendly and honest. I love working with all of them and recommend to family and friends readily. It's a busy office, though, so give them time to return your call or call them again. It's worth it!

Their scheduled calls isn't complicated to set up , but an inconvenience like what happened to just answering phone calls I have to setup an appointment I get it but society is getting so disconnected. The interface is a calendar but seems like everyday is a busy day ???? geez I hear good things but I'll skip the scheduling maybe they are good but like they seem kinda busy maybe a smaller business and it might be worth a try I haven't even got my taxes done with them but the calendar turned me off

I MEAN WOW. Tami and her staff are amazing. I got there and even though I overheard the lady I was booked with wasn't there due to an emergency, Tami (the owner) treated the situation with ease. I almost thought I was going to be an inconvenience and I would have needed to wait a long time or have to come back. But no, nothing like that at all. And mind you, taxes were due Monday and I was there on a Saturday afternoon. I came to her with unfiled taxes of THREE years (random years as far as 2013) and my cur

This is the first year I used Nova thanks to a friend?s recommendation. They are professional, easy to work with, prompt communicators and very knowledgeable. Nova will be my tax consultant from now on.

Great work, called and was seen that day . Ramona did awesome job on my taxes and sorting out my struggles with the irs. Highly recommend. Rolled the dice and hit the jackpot coming in.

Tami has gone beyond what she needs to to help me figure out my taxes. Plus, she has great customer service and truly cares about her clients.

These people are consummate tax preparers and advisors. They are top notch professionals who take thorough to a whole new level, and explain the process in detail every step of the way. In my 70 years I have never met such kind, solicitous champions of workers? welfare.

When everyone else is closed or unavailable, Nova Tax is open and running year round. Always willing to help.

Very helpful Tami is super nice and gets things done highly recommend.

Great agency to do business with

Nova Tax Consultants Tami and Carmen rescued me by getting a hold of an IRS agent on the phone (which required making call after call in order to get through to a live agent) and resolving the mystery of "what happened to my overpayment?" BACKGROUND: I served as a Power of Attorney for an elderly family member who lived in another state. When she became very frail and needed to move to a higher level facility, there was so much to do that I made a huge mistake: RESOLUTION? Nova Tax got hold of a live IRS ag

Frequently Asked Questions

What qualifications should I look for in a CPA?

Look for a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license, which ensures they’ve passed rigorous exams and meet state requirements. Check for relevant experience in your industry, additional certifications like CFA or CMA, and membership in professional organizations like the AICPA. Verify their credentials through state licensing boards.

How do I find a CPA in my area?

Use online directories like the AICPA, CPAverify, or state CPA societies. Search platforms like Yelp or Google for local CPAs with reviews. Ask for referrals from business associates, friends, or financial advisors. Local chambers of commerce can also provide recommendations.

What’s the difference between a CPA and an accountant?

A CPA is a licensed professional who has passed the CPA exam and met state requirements for education and experience. An accountant may lack this certification and could have varying levels of expertise. For complex tasks like tax audits or financial reporting, a CPA is typically more qualified.

How do I know if a CPA specializes in my needs?

Ask about their experience with your specific financial needs, such as tax preparation, small business accounting, or estate planning. Review their website or LinkedIn for case studies or client testimonials. Inquire about their client base to ensure they handle similar financial situations.

Should I check a CPA’s reviews before hiring?

Yes, reviews provide insight into a CPA’s reliability, communication, and performance. Check platforms like Google, Yelp, or the Better Business Bureau for client feedback. Look for patterns in reviews, but verify their authenticity, as some may be biased or outdated.

How can I verify a CPA’s license?

Visit your state’s Board of Accountancy website or use CPAverify.org to check a CPA’s license status. Confirm their license is active and check for any disciplinary actions or complaints. This ensures they’re in good standing and meet professional standards.

What questions should I ask during a CPA consultation?

Ask about their experience with your financial needs, fee structure, availability, and communication style. Inquire how they handle tax filings, audits, or financial planning. Ask for references or examples of similar work to assess their expertise and fit.

How much should I expect to pay for a CPA’s services?

Fees vary based on location, services, and complexity. Basic tax preparation may cost $150-$500, while business accounting or audits can range from $1,000 to $10,000+. Request a detailed fee structure upfront and compare quotes from multiple CPAs.

Can I work with a CPA remotely?

Yes, many CPAs offer remote services through secure online platforms for document sharing and virtual consultations. Ensure they use encrypted tools for data security. Remote CPAs can be effective if they understand your local tax laws or business regulations.

How do I assess a CPA’s communication skills?

During consultations, evaluate their ability to explain complex financial concepts clearly. Ask sample questions about taxes or financial strategies and note their responsiveness and clarity. Good communication ensures you understand their advice and fosters a productive relationship.

What red flags should I watch for when screening a CPA?

Beware of CPAs who guarantee specific tax refunds, lack a valid license, or have disciplinary actions on record. Avoid those with poor communication, vague fee structures, or negative reviews highlighting unethical behavior. Always verify their credentials independently.

Should I choose a CPA from a large firm or a solo practitioner?

Large firms offer more resources and specialized teams but may charge higher fees. Solo practitioners often provide personalized service and lower costs but may have limited availability. Choose based on your needs, budget, and preference for personalized attention.

How often should I meet with my CPA?

For individuals, annual meetings for tax preparation may suffice. Businesses may need quarterly or monthly check-ins for bookkeeping, tax planning, or financial reporting. Discuss your needs upfront to establish a meeting schedule that aligns with your financial goals.

Can a CPA help with both personal and business finances?

Yes, many CPAs handle both, but confirm their expertise in both areas. Ask about their experience managing personal taxes and business accounting simultaneously. Ensure they can balance both without compromising attention to your specific financial needs.

What should I do if I’m not satisfied with my CPA?

Discuss concerns directly with your CPA to resolve issues. If unresolved, check your contract for termination terms. Seek a new CPA by researching reviews, credentials, and referrals. Request your financial records to ensure a smooth transition to a new professional.
