Reviews Summary

The reviews show a clear divide in customer satisfaction. Many praise the exceptional service, expertise, and personal care, particularly highlighting thorough tax preparation, financial advice, and friendly staff. High ratings reflect strong trust and long-term loyalty. However, some express frustration with declining service quality, citing poor communication, delays, and lack of follow-through after key staff changes. Negative reviews mention missed deadlines and unmet expectations, contrasting sharply with the overwhelmingly positive experiences of others. The consensus leans positive but reveals significant concerns about consistency post-transition.

Customer Reviews

We have taken our taxes to this company for several years. When Meena was there things were done in a timely and organized manner. The last 2 years, however, we have not been impressed. It has taken over 7 weeks this year, and still hasn't been completed. We have called several times and we are told they are "under review", and that they only have one person to do the reviews for their multiple offices. Taxes are due NEXT WEEK and I'm not sure they will make the deadline. Not impressed. We will be lo

Meena and the staff of Padgett Business Services in Morgantown have done our taxes and provided us with excellent financial advice for over 20 years. Meena?s expertise and guidance have maximized our tax returns while her work and kindness have earned our trust. We highly recommend her for any accounting services.

UPDATE: Since Meena's departure the service has dropped considerably. Communication is poor and follow through is near non existent. After years with Padgett I was forced to hire a new accountant. ORIGINAL: Prior to using Meena at Padgett Business Services, I was a single mother with two children and I was an independent oil and gas contractor registered as an LLC with the State of WV using an accountant out of Fairmont. I was making $50,000/year and paying, what I thought, was an astounding $12k in taxes

Starting a relationship with Padgett Business Services has been the best decision we've made since opening our business. Meena and Kelly have given us thoughtful and thorough guidance for our business, keep us on track with our records, and are available always for any questions--no matter how small. With all the stress of owning a business, thanks to Padgett, taxes and accounting records are no longer things that I stress about. I can't say enough good things about Padgett Business Services, and I highl

I have been using Padgett Business Services for 18 years. As a small business owner I have found their expertise to be invaluable. I employ them for annual tax services as well as weekly payroll for my businesses. Meena and the rest of the staff are very helpful and care very much about their customers. I am very pleased with Padgett's work, and I would recommend them to any of my friends.

I can?t say enough wonderful things about Padgett Business Services! Meena Ahluwalia and Kelly Casto are treasures to us and our business. They are so thorough, give us excellent guidance, and take the time to consider our individual business and tax needs. No question is too small for them, and I can rest easy knowing they?re looking out for us. Going to Padgett Business Services was the best decision we have made after starting our own business.

I switched to Padgett Business Services a few years ago. The staff is courteous and professional and the personalized service you receive gives you confidence that they care for each individual client. I would recommend them to anyone who wants the peace of mind of knowing their tax preparation is being done thoroughly and accurately.

We went to Padgett Business Services for our taxes. Meena was knowledgeable, efficient and helpful. She was also very personable and kind. The turnaround time was just perfect. I highly recommend Padgett Business Services.

The Padgett Business team is amazing. They do everything they can to help with your taxes and accounting needs, They consider their work with you to be comprehensive, providing guidance on life decisions, direction when needed and incorporate your life goals into a long term plan.

First of all if google had a 10 star rating, I would give her and he team a 20. Meena is so personable and caring that I can't imagine anybody else handling my business accounting. I first came to her about 7 months ago feeling absolutely defeated. She immediately told me all of the solutions that she had in mind and put my worries to rest. I often look forward to visiting her and her staff at the office because I am always greeted with friendly "hellos" and "how have you been?". Meena truly cares about her

Meena and her team are absolutely the best. Meena helped identify my wife was not taking advantage of a retirement option with her employer. My wife thought she wasn't eligible for it after talking to someone in HR. Meena insisted my wife was eligible, my wife went back to HR, turns out my wife was eligible, and had the account setup. This saved us some money on taxes and saved a little more money for retirement. All this was after our first meeting before I officially became a client for my small business.

Not the same since the new owners. - Meena and her staff are very friendly and extremely helpful. They handled everything perfectly and did a fantastic job! I am so happy to have found such a great team!

Meena was very helpful in answering my questions about payroll taxes and even offered some insightful advice that hadn't occured to me. It was a pleasure speaking to such a compassionate and empathetic professional. I would highly recommend her services.

Meena was very attentative and knowledgeable. Her experience was apparent and appreciated. I look forward to several years of service from Padgett Services.

Great team for small business and personal work. Meena and staff are always friendly and helpful, and always have spot-on advice for getting the best advantage from your money. I'd recommend them to anyone.

Frequently Asked Questions

What qualifications should I look for in a CPA?

Look for a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license, which ensures they’ve passed rigorous exams and meet state requirements. Check for relevant experience in your industry, additional certifications like CFA or CMA, and membership in professional organizations like the AICPA. Verify their credentials through state licensing boards.

How do I find a CPA in my area?

Use online directories like the AICPA, CPAverify, or state CPA societies. Search platforms like Yelp or Google for local CPAs with reviews. Ask for referrals from business associates, friends, or financial advisors. Local chambers of commerce can also provide recommendations.

What’s the difference between a CPA and an accountant?

A CPA is a licensed professional who has passed the CPA exam and met state requirements for education and experience. An accountant may lack this certification and could have varying levels of expertise. For complex tasks like tax audits or financial reporting, a CPA is typically more qualified.

How do I know if a CPA specializes in my needs?

Ask about their experience with your specific financial needs, such as tax preparation, small business accounting, or estate planning. Review their website or LinkedIn for case studies or client testimonials. Inquire about their client base to ensure they handle similar financial situations.

Should I check a CPA’s reviews before hiring?

Yes, reviews provide insight into a CPA’s reliability, communication, and performance. Check platforms like Google, Yelp, or the Better Business Bureau for client feedback. Look for patterns in reviews, but verify their authenticity, as some may be biased or outdated.

How can I verify a CPA’s license?

Visit your state’s Board of Accountancy website or use CPAverify.org to check a CPA’s license status. Confirm their license is active and check for any disciplinary actions or complaints. This ensures they’re in good standing and meet professional standards.

What questions should I ask during a CPA consultation?

Ask about their experience with your financial needs, fee structure, availability, and communication style. Inquire how they handle tax filings, audits, or financial planning. Ask for references or examples of similar work to assess their expertise and fit.

How much should I expect to pay for a CPA’s services?

Fees vary based on location, services, and complexity. Basic tax preparation may cost $150-$500, while business accounting or audits can range from $1,000 to $10,000+. Request a detailed fee structure upfront and compare quotes from multiple CPAs.

Can I work with a CPA remotely?

Yes, many CPAs offer remote services through secure online platforms for document sharing and virtual consultations. Ensure they use encrypted tools for data security. Remote CPAs can be effective if they understand your local tax laws or business regulations.

How do I assess a CPA’s communication skills?

During consultations, evaluate their ability to explain complex financial concepts clearly. Ask sample questions about taxes or financial strategies and note their responsiveness and clarity. Good communication ensures you understand their advice and fosters a productive relationship.

What red flags should I watch for when screening a CPA?

Beware of CPAs who guarantee specific tax refunds, lack a valid license, or have disciplinary actions on record. Avoid those with poor communication, vague fee structures, or negative reviews highlighting unethical behavior. Always verify their credentials independently.

Should I choose a CPA from a large firm or a solo practitioner?

Large firms offer more resources and specialized teams but may charge higher fees. Solo practitioners often provide personalized service and lower costs but may have limited availability. Choose based on your needs, budget, and preference for personalized attention.

How often should I meet with my CPA?

For individuals, annual meetings for tax preparation may suffice. Businesses may need quarterly or monthly check-ins for bookkeeping, tax planning, or financial reporting. Discuss your needs upfront to establish a meeting schedule that aligns with your financial goals.

Can a CPA help with both personal and business finances?

Yes, many CPAs handle both, but confirm their expertise in both areas. Ask about their experience managing personal taxes and business accounting simultaneously. Ensure they can balance both without compromising attention to your specific financial needs.

What should I do if I’m not satisfied with my CPA?

Discuss concerns directly with your CPA to resolve issues. If unresolved, check your contract for termination terms. Seek a new CPA by researching reviews, credentials, and referrals. Request your financial records to ensure a smooth transition to a new professional.
