Many emphasize long-term trust, with specific appreciation for navigating complex situations like audits or COVID challenges. I highly recommend Doug Burson and his team for their outstanding CPA services. They are professional, knowledgeable, and always go above and beyond to ensure my financial needs are met. Doug has consistently provided valuable advice and has been instrumental in helping me navigate complex tax and financial matters. What sets this company apart is their responsiveness and attention to detail. Every time I have a question, they address it promptly and thoroughly. I truly feel like a valued client, and it?s

We have used this company for over 3 Decades. Doug is a very experienced CPA and his bookkeepers are extremely thorough. Money well spent for peace of mind in a very complex industry. They process our Payroll, End of Month, Annual taxes and guided us through a regime change. They will likely save you more money than what you ultimately end of paying them. Thanks again and look forward to many more years to come.

Doug?s staff are extremely educated in their field. We have used them for all of our CPA needs as well as annual tax filing.

Doug and his staff do a great job of taking care of both my personal and business taxes. They are very responsive to requests and always eager to help, no matter how big of small the issue. Would highly recommend Doug to other small business owners. Along with his tax advice, Doug is also a creative person that thinks outside the box, which is an absolute must as an entrepreneur!!!

Doug is amazing!! He helped me with my taxes whene there was a issue.. and he helps my son who is active military.. he is always up to date on new rules and deductions for me and my son when it comes to the military. I will never use anyone else again. Absolutely love him and his staff! They are fast and reasonable.

We met Doug Burson just a couple of years ago. We were forced into an IRS audit by another inept CPA. We elected to have Doug represent us. Doug is personable, professional, knowledgeable, and honest. He got us through that stressful ordeal with the results we were hoping for. Doug is proactive and dedicated to ALL of his clients, as proven when the covid situation blindsided all of us. He was quick to find out the details, provide online meetings then Youtube videos and facebook to get to us, the informa

This was the first year that I used Doug's firm to prepare my tax returns. I was pleased. Doug went out of his way at no charge to investigate a matter unique to my tax preparation that had escaped both my previous tax preparer and me. After he made several phone calls, he was able to provide me with the information I needed to connect with the vendor and allow me to update their records. I was not expecting this extra mile of service.

Doug and his team have done my taxes for many years and has always done a fine job for a very fair price. I highly recommend their services for taxes, but I also know he's highly knowledgeable about the business side of the tax world and have referred several friends to him.

I have been going to Doug for years now. Doug is really knowledgeable and does a great job for us each year. If your looking for a cpa with lot of experience and specialized knowledge, look no further. I would highly recommend Doug and Padgett Business Services.

Diligent, thorough, personable and above all professional! We've had nothing but great experiences with Doug Burson and all of those in the office! With complicated tax situations, new jobs, and unexpected income changes they make it all seem stress free! I would recommend them to anyone and everyone!

We've been using Doug for the past several years for our personal and small business taxes. He is very knowledgeable and professional, and makes himself available for any questions.

Doug is an excellent advisor and does a great job with our taxes. Prices are reasonable and all is completed in a timely manner. I recommend him to all our friends!

As a local financial advisor serving Raytown and Lees Summit, I have never had a CPA who was more responsive and knowledgeable. Doug is great at being a preventive CPA for small businesses. He helps you avoid tax mistakes before the end of the year.

DO NOT USE THESE ACCOUNTANTS. They will take their time to do your taxes with no communication. They didn't get our taxes done for 3 months past the due date when we had our tax information into them by February. Not only did this cost us an extra $1400 in penalties and fees but they still expected their $400 payment for doing shoddy work. I WILL NEVER USE THEM AGAIN. At this point, I'm tempted to sue them for the $1400 they cost us by being lazy and slow. NEVER AGAIN.

Painless and easy tax preparation. Communication is top notch and they ask all the right questions. Thanks again!

I have had my business and personal taxes done here several times by Doug. He has been nothing but timely and thorough. He is always looking out for me and making sure we are compliant and efficient.

Frequently Asked Questions

What qualifications should I look for in a CPA?

Look for a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license, which ensures they’ve passed rigorous exams and meet state requirements. Check for relevant experience in your industry, additional certifications like CFA or CMA, and membership in professional organizations like the AICPA. Verify their credentials through state licensing boards.

How do I find a CPA in my area?

Use online directories like the AICPA, CPAverify, or state CPA societies. Search platforms like Yelp or Google for local CPAs with reviews. Ask for referrals from business associates, friends, or financial advisors. Local chambers of commerce can also provide recommendations.

What’s the difference between a CPA and an accountant?

A CPA is a licensed professional who has passed the CPA exam and met state requirements for education and experience. An accountant may lack this certification and could have varying levels of expertise. For complex tasks like tax audits or financial reporting, a CPA is typically more qualified.

How do I know if a CPA specializes in my needs?

Ask about their experience with your specific financial needs, such as tax preparation, small business accounting, or estate planning. Review their website or LinkedIn for case studies or client testimonials. Inquire about their client base to ensure they handle similar financial situations.

Should I check a CPA’s reviews before hiring?

Yes, reviews provide insight into a CPA’s reliability, communication, and performance. Check platforms like Google, Yelp, or the Better Business Bureau for client feedback. Look for patterns in reviews, but verify their authenticity, as some may be biased or outdated.

How can I verify a CPA’s license?

Visit your state’s Board of Accountancy website or use CPAverify.org to check a CPA’s license status. Confirm their license is active and check for any disciplinary actions or complaints. This ensures they’re in good standing and meet professional standards.

What questions should I ask during a CPA consultation?

Ask about their experience with your financial needs, fee structure, availability, and communication style. Inquire how they handle tax filings, audits, or financial planning. Ask for references or examples of similar work to assess their expertise and fit.

How much should I expect to pay for a CPA’s services?

Fees vary based on location, services, and complexity. Basic tax preparation may cost $150-$500, while business accounting or audits can range from $1,000 to $10,000+. Request a detailed fee structure upfront and compare quotes from multiple CPAs.

Can I work with a CPA remotely?

Yes, many CPAs offer remote services through secure online platforms for document sharing and virtual consultations. Ensure they use encrypted tools for data security. Remote CPAs can be effective if they understand your local tax laws or business regulations.

How do I assess a CPA’s communication skills?

During consultations, evaluate their ability to explain complex financial concepts clearly. Ask sample questions about taxes or financial strategies and note their responsiveness and clarity. Good communication ensures you understand their advice and fosters a productive relationship.

What red flags should I watch for when screening a CPA?

Beware of CPAs who guarantee specific tax refunds, lack a valid license, or have disciplinary actions on record. Avoid those with poor communication, vague fee structures, or negative reviews highlighting unethical behavior. Always verify their credentials independently.

Should I choose a CPA from a large firm or a solo practitioner?

Large firms offer more resources and specialized teams but may charge higher fees. Solo practitioners often provide personalized service and lower costs but may have limited availability. Choose based on your needs, budget, and preference for personalized attention.

How often should I meet with my CPA?

For individuals, annual meetings for tax preparation may suffice. Businesses may need quarterly or monthly check-ins for bookkeeping, tax planning, or financial reporting. Discuss your needs upfront to establish a meeting schedule that aligns with your financial goals.

Can a CPA help with both personal and business finances?

Yes, many CPAs handle both, but confirm their expertise in both areas. Ask about their experience managing personal taxes and business accounting simultaneously. Ensure they can balance both without compromising attention to your specific financial needs.

What should I do if I’m not satisfied with my CPA?

Discuss concerns directly with your CPA to resolve issues. If unresolved, check your contract for termination terms. Seek a new CPA by researching reviews, credentials, and referrals. Request your financial records to ensure a smooth transition to a new professional.
