Customer Reviews

Don's been my business accountant for 10 years. I once told him he's the man who makes taxes fun again since he makes my life so much easier (he was quick to note he's not sure taxes have ever been fun...). I've easily gotten back a week of my life each of the last 10 years not having to go through the brain damage myself. I'm not sure why I kept doing my own personal taxes until finally having him do those too 5 years ago. Not sure how he does what he does so well, but I sure do love it and actually loo

Absolutely terrible!! Made multiple mistakes that cost me money. Terrible customer service. Took them almost a year to amend two tax returns. Don and his staff are not reliable and do not return calls or emails in a timely fashion. I would definitely not recommend.

R and D accounting has been handling our accounting for several years. They are accurate, efficient, and professional. I would highly recommend them to any small or medium size business owner.

I've been a returning customer for 5 years now. Don and his awesome team (shout out to Brenda) have been consistently outstanding and helpful. I appreciate their updates, forethought, and expertise. Despite always being slammed during tax season, they still manage to return all of my questions in a timely manner. I always feel at ease with this team. They set the bar high.

I have used R&D for tax prep for the past six years and have always been very satisfied with their work. Recently they went above and beyond to help my daughter with a non-traditional tax filing. Don patiently listened to the circumstances and confidently developed a plan to resolve the issue. R&D executed and the filing was completed. We are very grateful for the staff's knowledge and their humanity. I first learned about R&D based on their excellent reviews on the Nextdoor app.

Booked a consultation to discuss questions on prior tax years and on tax implications of starting a home business. During the appointment the CPA did not take the time to understand our questions and assumed we were only trying to start a businessto write off taxes. Then after sending in our prior year tax documents I didn't hear anything back for a few weeks (outside of tax season). I followed up with them and got a very casual email back with follow up questions in incomplete sentences indicating they had

I've been delighted with R and D service. Great care taken to understand my concerns. They went above and beyond without adding on to my basic costs, even though I added paperwork after initial paper submissions .Very pleased.

I'd rather get audited than deal with these ghouls. Save your money and avoid the hassle by taking your business elsewhere. I requested them to process two years of my taxes. When I went in to review with them, they had only processed one year. So they shuffle to the back real quick and hastily process the other year in about 20 minutes while I waited. After that, nothing but constant headaches from the IRS and R&D accounting. I think I had to go in three more times to get everything settled. Didn't save

Don has been my accountant since 2016 when we moved to Colorado. His whole team has been wonderful, no matter how many times I call with a question or trips I have to make because I forgot to add a document to the tax file. They're prompt, thorough, and knowledgeable. I recommend Don to every person who even mentions taxes.

I did not share the positive experiences of the rest of the reviews. I booked my tax appointment months ahead of time. Don seemed to want to rush through the appointment as quickly as possible, almost to the point of being rude. I submitted my remaining forms online and he never looked at them until I called several times. Each time talking to Don was like starting from scratch. He had no idea who I was or anything about my taxes. It took him almost 2 months to complete my very simple tax return. I had a se

Don and Renee have been a blessing to our new business. When we first started our small business in Colorado we were given some rather bad advise from another accounting firm. We severed ties with them and found Don, as I mentioned before, they have both been a blessing to us, directing us in the correct ways to handle our affairs. They are quick to answer any questions we might have whether it is though an email or a phone call, not to mention they are very competitively priced. They take pride in their cu

Can't say enough about Don and Renee! Been superior with both my business and personal taxes. Always has time for answering ANY questions and setting up planning meetings! In a word-TRUST. They have mine. Their staff is very knowledgeable and willing to assist with any way possible-even dropping forms to my house when needed.

After going from a rather simple tax situation, I moved to Colorado and things became a lot more complicated including rental and private properties in two states, moving for a new job, etc. I was very anxious that every be handled properly. I also wanted a plan for moving forward as I plan to remain in this state. Don is knowledgeable, thorough, and I felt confident that had examined the entire landscape of my personal situation and assessed things with me and my future in mind. I would recommend him t

I have used R and D Accounting for about 6 years. I won't be using them again. I waited over 2 1/2 months for my 2021 taxes, never started still. A staff member told me by the end of June 2022 it would be completed. I never heard there would be a delay when I called about two weeks ago.. On the last day of the month I went and collected my unstarted taxes. A friend said 10-15 days during the busy season it takes for her firm to do the taxes or 2-3 days during off season. My stars only reflect the new

I was happy to find this team after bouncing around to various shops for a couple of years. Stable, solid communication, and able to answer my questions. We have found a great partnership for our personal and business tax needs! Hooray!

I had a question regarding a real estate base cost for tax purposes and my research on IRS websites couldn't satisfactorily answer it. As R and D was recommended by my house appraiser, I sent them an email briefly describing the situation and asked for a consulting quote (I felt I needed to sit down with someone knowledgeable and discuss the situation in detail and I was prepared to pay for it as well). Don Bondeson (possibly the D in "R and D"?) promptly replied with an answer - apparently this was a simp

I am not very savvy when it comes to taxes. So when I moved to CO, I was looking for someone to guide me and advise me on how to handle my S-corp. I made multiple phone calls and emails to Don throughout the year making sure I was on par with everything regarding my taxes. He kept assuring me everything was fine. Needless to say, I am now paying for it. I Would not recommend him to anyone who is lacking knowledge in the world of taxes, IRS, etc...

I worked with Don and Renee this year for my tax returns filing. I had a very good experience. Don seemed confident of any questions I had for him during the filing process. Based on my experience, I would recommend R and D Accounting to others.

I am a business owner with a demanding stack of things always needing to be done. We needed a good CPA firm, thank god we found this company. R&D Accounting is the only company i would use and am glad to have them doing what they do best. When it comes to business or personal tax needs, this is the only place for us. I can say without any doubt this company and the staff just flat out ROCKS!! Colorado.

After 3 years of trying to resolve a Colrado state tax matter, Don and his associates resolved the issue in 3 months. And to my surprise, I received my refund on Friday. Now that's results to brag about. Very professional with a very positive outcome. I highly recommend their services.

I am a first time client of Dons and he saved my BUTT!!!! It's a very long story but I created a problem with the IRS. Don did my taxes and made a phone call to the IRS that literally saved me thousands of dollars.. He has a new customer for life. Whether he likes it or not :)

I've worked with a many accountants over the years and R and D Accounting are among the best! Don has done my personal and business taxes for the last few years and I've been working with Monica on my business bookkeeping for almost a year now. Professional, personable, accessible, and reasonably priced. I'm a customer for life!

I worked with Don, I had a lot of tax questions associated with Real Estate . Don answered everything and gave me the pros and cons of each question. Afterwards gave me the father style chat on his advice and laid out the pros and cons. Thank you Don.

I HIGHLY recommend R & D accounting!! I'm so glad I found this place & Don! I TRUST him & that's most important to me! Not to mention, that he has always been swiftly available when I have had a question! He's very personable & professional! Great guy! I love it when I find a great place that I am comfortable with & can continue to come back to!!! Thanks guys!!! Way to go!! :)

We highly recommend Don, Renee, and the staff at R & D to anyone looking for a CPA. They are great with small businesses, knowledgeable, and have been extremely helpful to our company, Broomfield Pro Painters.

Owning a business can be overwhelming! All the tax laws, rules and regulations give me a headache! Carbon Valley Heating and Air is grateful that we found R and D accounting! They have assisted us in getting a grip on our finances and simplifying our duties so we can focus on what we do best!

Thorough and professional. R&D Accounting makes me feel well prepared for tax season, and how to plan for the following year. I trust their advice and highly recommend them.

Don is sooooo patient! He is always available to answer my many questions and gives us such great advice. Fiances and taxes are something I will never totally understand but I feel better knowing that R and D accounting is there to help me!

Don was incredibly informative, and answered every question we threw his way. They do a free initial consultation, and do not nickle and dime you for asking lots of questions over email. Come prepared with questions for your initial consultation!

I have thoroughly enjoyed working with Renee, both getting my taxes done and advice on the structure of my Quickbooks and taxes. I highly recommend her!

Horrible communication throughout, consistently ignoring emails. Submitted my taxes just prior to the deadline, not leaving sufficient sufficient time for me to ask my employer important questions.

We needed help w/ CO Dept of Revenue Sales tax. Don resolved our issue quickly and showed me how to make my quarterly reports. Very Happy :)

Don was a pleasure to work with and handled all of my small business and personal tax needs quickly and professionally! Highly recommended.

Thanks for letting me focus on what I do best by taking such good care of my business accounting and taxes. You definitely provide the "easy button"!

Pretty rudimentary outfit that can handle basic stuff but if your needs are more complex look elsewhere.

If you?ve ever felt like your taxes were a hostage negotiation that wasn?t your fault, these guys are the place to go.

Don & Co have helped me and our business immensely! They have a client for life.

Renee is a big help to my business. I appreciate all of her help!

Hats off to don and Joy they work wonders

Great Experience with R and D Accounting!

Always great service!

Frequently Asked Questions

What qualifications should I look for in a CPA?

Look for a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license, which ensures they’ve passed rigorous exams and meet state requirements. Check for relevant experience in your industry, additional certifications like CFA or CMA, and membership in professional organizations like the AICPA. Verify their credentials through state licensing boards.

How do I find a CPA in my area?

Use online directories like the AICPA, CPAverify, or state CPA societies. Search platforms like Yelp or Google for local CPAs with reviews. Ask for referrals from business associates, friends, or financial advisors. Local chambers of commerce can also provide recommendations.

What’s the difference between a CPA and an accountant?

A CPA is a licensed professional who has passed the CPA exam and met state requirements for education and experience. An accountant may lack this certification and could have varying levels of expertise. For complex tasks like tax audits or financial reporting, a CPA is typically more qualified.

How do I know if a CPA specializes in my needs?

Ask about their experience with your specific financial needs, such as tax preparation, small business accounting, or estate planning. Review their website or LinkedIn for case studies or client testimonials. Inquire about their client base to ensure they handle similar financial situations.

Should I check a CPA’s reviews before hiring?

Yes, reviews provide insight into a CPA’s reliability, communication, and performance. Check platforms like Google, Yelp, or the Better Business Bureau for client feedback. Look for patterns in reviews, but verify their authenticity, as some may be biased or outdated.

How can I verify a CPA’s license?

Visit your state’s Board of Accountancy website or use CPAverify.org to check a CPA’s license status. Confirm their license is active and check for any disciplinary actions or complaints. This ensures they’re in good standing and meet professional standards.

What questions should I ask during a CPA consultation?

Ask about their experience with your financial needs, fee structure, availability, and communication style. Inquire how they handle tax filings, audits, or financial planning. Ask for references or examples of similar work to assess their expertise and fit.

How much should I expect to pay for a CPA’s services?

Fees vary based on location, services, and complexity. Basic tax preparation may cost $150-$500, while business accounting or audits can range from $1,000 to $10,000+. Request a detailed fee structure upfront and compare quotes from multiple CPAs.

Can I work with a CPA remotely?

Yes, many CPAs offer remote services through secure online platforms for document sharing and virtual consultations. Ensure they use encrypted tools for data security. Remote CPAs can be effective if they understand your local tax laws or business regulations.

How do I assess a CPA’s communication skills?

During consultations, evaluate their ability to explain complex financial concepts clearly. Ask sample questions about taxes or financial strategies and note their responsiveness and clarity. Good communication ensures you understand their advice and fosters a productive relationship.

What red flags should I watch for when screening a CPA?

Beware of CPAs who guarantee specific tax refunds, lack a valid license, or have disciplinary actions on record. Avoid those with poor communication, vague fee structures, or negative reviews highlighting unethical behavior. Always verify their credentials independently.

Should I choose a CPA from a large firm or a solo practitioner?

Large firms offer more resources and specialized teams but may charge higher fees. Solo practitioners often provide personalized service and lower costs but may have limited availability. Choose based on your needs, budget, and preference for personalized attention.

How often should I meet with my CPA?

For individuals, annual meetings for tax preparation may suffice. Businesses may need quarterly or monthly check-ins for bookkeeping, tax planning, or financial reporting. Discuss your needs upfront to establish a meeting schedule that aligns with your financial goals.

Can a CPA help with both personal and business finances?

Yes, many CPAs handle both, but confirm their expertise in both areas. Ask about their experience managing personal taxes and business accounting simultaneously. Ensure they can balance both without compromising attention to your specific financial needs.

What should I do if I’m not satisfied with my CPA?

Discuss concerns directly with your CPA to resolve issues. If unresolved, check your contract for termination terms. Seek a new CPA by researching reviews, credentials, and referrals. Request your financial records to ensure a smooth transition to a new professional.
