If I could give 0 stars I would. Lee came highly recommended from a friend, but has failed us tremendously. Lee filed a state and federal tax return without our signatures, how is that even legal?! When we called him on it, he said that he would get it fixed and didn?t know how it happened. The federal return ended up costing us over $600 that we weren?t supposed to owe. Lee told us that he would refund his fee for the troubles but of course never did. He stopped answering any calls, texts or emails asking
Cary and I have been working with Lee since 1988 when our previous advisor, Gene Roper, referred him to us. Over the years, Lee has supplied us with excellent tax service every year since that time. He has also been a great source for any tax issues that have arisen during the years, as well as any financial decisions that might have possible tax implications each year. Most importantly, we consider Lee a personal friend. Sincerely, Bill Happe
When I first purchased my 1st home My lender referred me to Lee. Since then he has been a part of my home. He blessed me with his consultant Erin who is amazing and so kind professional is not the word but she has serviced my taxes for 3 years now. She has never forgotten me. This team is more then awesome and my daughter and I appreciate them for all they do!
My wife and I have been working with Lee seeking resolution to a somewhat complicated and unusual situation with the IRS for sometime. He has become our trusted advocate and has demonstrated patience, and focused calm reserve, which helps us immeasurably as we face the challenge of sorting things out with the IRS.
Mr. Pennington and his team are simply amazing! Very professional and helped me with a couple of years that I needed straightened out! He really does his utmost to make your tax burden the least possible! Friends don't let friends pay too much in taxes.. Thank you Lee!!!
We have been using Lee Pennington CPA for the last few years and each time has been very pleasant. They are willing to answer any questions I have and walk me through anything I need help with. Would highly recommend.
Lee and his staff are exceptional. I would highly recommend that anyone looking for a professional and knowledgeable CPA call Lee. You won't be disappointed, I promise.
This accounting firm appeared to have it all together, that is, until you need to progress in handling the accounting that you hired them to do. The staff is always covering for Lee's absences/whereabouts and one of the staff members has not received much customer service training and it shows. Based on my experience and that of a professional friend, I will not be using this group for my accounting services.
Lee never disappoints. I recommend that anyone in need of high quality knowledge on CPA then this is the best place to receive the knowledge. Very organized and friendly.
The fee is a little on the high side but it is worth it and I have found them to be straight forward, knowledgeable, honest and trustworthy as I have been getting my taxes done here for the last 2/3 years - to me Integrity counts above everything else!
Lee has been an asset to our company and has helped me with our personal taxes as well! Very helpful and always there when I need him!
Lee is full of promises and plans but very short on delivery of services. Lots of excuses no follow through If you don't have time to take on new clients, just say so
Received excellent business and personal accounting services at Lee Pennington. Knowledgeable and courteous people to work with. - Jay

These guys count WELL =)
Look for a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license, which ensures they’ve passed rigorous exams and meet state requirements. Check for relevant experience in your industry, additional certifications like CFA or CMA, and membership in professional organizations like the AICPA. Verify their credentials through state licensing boards.
Use online directories like the AICPA, CPAverify, or state CPA societies. Search platforms like Yelp or Google for local CPAs with reviews. Ask for referrals from business associates, friends, or financial advisors. Local chambers of commerce can also provide recommendations.
A CPA is a licensed professional who has passed the CPA exam and met state requirements for education and experience. An accountant may lack this certification and could have varying levels of expertise. For complex tasks like tax audits or financial reporting, a CPA is typically more qualified.
Ask about their experience with your specific financial needs, such as tax preparation, small business accounting, or estate planning. Review their website or LinkedIn for case studies or client testimonials. Inquire about their client base to ensure they handle similar financial situations.
Yes, reviews provide insight into a CPA’s reliability, communication, and performance. Check platforms like Google, Yelp, or the Better Business Bureau for client feedback. Look for patterns in reviews, but verify their authenticity, as some may be biased or outdated.
Visit your state’s Board of Accountancy website or use CPAverify.org to check a CPA’s license status. Confirm their license is active and check for any disciplinary actions or complaints. This ensures they’re in good standing and meet professional standards.
Ask about their experience with your financial needs, fee structure, availability, and communication style. Inquire how they handle tax filings, audits, or financial planning. Ask for references or examples of similar work to assess their expertise and fit.
Fees vary based on location, services, and complexity. Basic tax preparation may cost $150-$500, while business accounting or audits can range from $1,000 to $10,000+. Request a detailed fee structure upfront and compare quotes from multiple CPAs.
Yes, many CPAs offer remote services through secure online platforms for document sharing and virtual consultations. Ensure they use encrypted tools for data security. Remote CPAs can be effective if they understand your local tax laws or business regulations.
During consultations, evaluate their ability to explain complex financial concepts clearly. Ask sample questions about taxes or financial strategies and note their responsiveness and clarity. Good communication ensures you understand their advice and fosters a productive relationship.
Beware of CPAs who guarantee specific tax refunds, lack a valid license, or have disciplinary actions on record. Avoid those with poor communication, vague fee structures, or negative reviews highlighting unethical behavior. Always verify their credentials independently.
Large firms offer more resources and specialized teams but may charge higher fees. Solo practitioners often provide personalized service and lower costs but may have limited availability. Choose based on your needs, budget, and preference for personalized attention.
For individuals, annual meetings for tax preparation may suffice. Businesses may need quarterly or monthly check-ins for bookkeeping, tax planning, or financial reporting. Discuss your needs upfront to establish a meeting schedule that aligns with your financial goals.
Yes, many CPAs handle both, but confirm their expertise in both areas. Ask about their experience managing personal taxes and business accounting simultaneously. Ensure they can balance both without compromising attention to your specific financial needs.
Discuss concerns directly with your CPA to resolve issues. If unresolved, check your contract for termination terms. Seek a new CPA by researching reviews, credentials, and referrals. Request your financial records to ensure a smooth transition to a new professional.
