We discontinued service with RA Tax this year. The owner Jim Liechtner is either disinterested or clueless. We have been with Jim and his various companies since 2005. we stayed loyal when an ex employee embezzlement over $16,000 on a credit card stored with RA Tax and filed with Lenexa Police and were refunded by our credit card company. This year we find out our taxes were filed wrong and we owe an additional $19,000 plus from 2022 with over a $2,000 penalty. RA is unresponsive, rude with one particular
2 of the preparers didn?t show up to work on April 12. There was a very nice lady that found my taxes on a desk somewhere. She told me I could mail checks with the coupons but they were for estimates for next years taxes. Yep, confusing but she was just filling in. She said my owed federal tax could be mailed. Well we mailed and they came out automatically. Fun stuff. I have used RA for 20 years. Done! Oh and they charged 245.00 for 2 w2 employees, no schedule C. Pretty sure I had a credit for $50 from last
I read good reviews and a lot of talk of ?great competitive prices? and made the mistake of allowing them to do my taxes without asking for a service price first. I paid 45$ for my service in 2022 through Prime Accounting in OPK, these people at RA charge $300 for theirs. Yes you read that correctly. $300. How is that competitive pricing? I?ve never even heard of anything north of $150 for a tax service. I was so shocked and livid but it was my mistake for not asking before hand and trusting the reviews. I
I was a client of this firm before owning it. To be fair and for total disclosure, I am an owner now but it was not always like that. They have been preparing my taxes for a lot of years, ever since they moved into their present location which was in 1999. I believe I've saved a lot of money in taxes but I've done so legally and ethically.
Mark is incredibly friendly and helped relieve a lot of my stress. Everything was done quickly and they made it as easy as possible for me to file my taxes. They even included addressed envelopes for me to mail everything out. They were also willing to work with me on a payment plan. I can't recommend Mark and his team enough, they're amazing!
I have been going to RA Tax and Accounting for several years now to have my taxes done. The staff there is very professional and know what they are doing. Anytime I have questions or concerns I can call and get through to someone quickly. I take my fiance's documents there too and the 2014 year was especially tricky with the health care reform changes. They clearly explained what our options were and made sure they were doing anything they could to help us out. Their prices are very reasonable and they proc
I live in Independence and we found this accountant through a friend of the family. The staff is top knotch , very knowledgable and organized, and the best part is that I actually got to enjoy some of the tax return they helped me get. Prices were very reasonable ! Thanks RA Tax. I'll see ya next year. If your looking for a new accountant, its worth the drive no matter where you live in the metro.
My husband and I came to RA Tax and Accounting to have our taxes done because we live in Missouri and work in Kansas and trying to do them by ourselves was confusing, they did our taxes in a timely fashion the staff there is very friendly and they charge a very reasonable price. I would recommend them to all my friends and family.
When I started my new part-time business, I needed help with my taxes. RA Tax and Accounting has done a good job for me each year and I will continue to use them every year. Friendly staff and prompt service.

We just moved over this year and have never been happier. They found a big change in my filing that really saved us. I would recommend highly!!!! Also they call you back quickly and respond which is really nice. :) Thank you!!! Scott
They are extremely thorough and the price is competitive. If you want professional, knowledgeable and on-time service choose RA Tax & Accounting Inc.
Elaine was very friendly and easy to work with. We've used RA for four years and will continue to use them in the future.

Look for a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license, which ensures they’ve passed rigorous exams and meet state requirements. Check for relevant experience in your industry, additional certifications like CFA or CMA, and membership in professional organizations like the AICPA. Verify their credentials through state licensing boards.
Use online directories like the AICPA, CPAverify, or state CPA societies. Search platforms like Yelp or Google for local CPAs with reviews. Ask for referrals from business associates, friends, or financial advisors. Local chambers of commerce can also provide recommendations.
A CPA is a licensed professional who has passed the CPA exam and met state requirements for education and experience. An accountant may lack this certification and could have varying levels of expertise. For complex tasks like tax audits or financial reporting, a CPA is typically more qualified.
Ask about their experience with your specific financial needs, such as tax preparation, small business accounting, or estate planning. Review their website or LinkedIn for case studies or client testimonials. Inquire about their client base to ensure they handle similar financial situations.
Yes, reviews provide insight into a CPA’s reliability, communication, and performance. Check platforms like Google, Yelp, or the Better Business Bureau for client feedback. Look for patterns in reviews, but verify their authenticity, as some may be biased or outdated.
Visit your state’s Board of Accountancy website or use CPAverify.org to check a CPA’s license status. Confirm their license is active and check for any disciplinary actions or complaints. This ensures they’re in good standing and meet professional standards.
Ask about their experience with your financial needs, fee structure, availability, and communication style. Inquire how they handle tax filings, audits, or financial planning. Ask for references or examples of similar work to assess their expertise and fit.
Fees vary based on location, services, and complexity. Basic tax preparation may cost $150-$500, while business accounting or audits can range from $1,000 to $10,000+. Request a detailed fee structure upfront and compare quotes from multiple CPAs.
Yes, many CPAs offer remote services through secure online platforms for document sharing and virtual consultations. Ensure they use encrypted tools for data security. Remote CPAs can be effective if they understand your local tax laws or business regulations.
During consultations, evaluate their ability to explain complex financial concepts clearly. Ask sample questions about taxes or financial strategies and note their responsiveness and clarity. Good communication ensures you understand their advice and fosters a productive relationship.
Beware of CPAs who guarantee specific tax refunds, lack a valid license, or have disciplinary actions on record. Avoid those with poor communication, vague fee structures, or negative reviews highlighting unethical behavior. Always verify their credentials independently.
Large firms offer more resources and specialized teams but may charge higher fees. Solo practitioners often provide personalized service and lower costs but may have limited availability. Choose based on your needs, budget, and preference for personalized attention.
For individuals, annual meetings for tax preparation may suffice. Businesses may need quarterly or monthly check-ins for bookkeeping, tax planning, or financial reporting. Discuss your needs upfront to establish a meeting schedule that aligns with your financial goals.
Yes, many CPAs handle both, but confirm their expertise in both areas. Ask about their experience managing personal taxes and business accounting simultaneously. Ensure they can balance both without compromising attention to your specific financial needs.
Discuss concerns directly with your CPA to resolve issues. If unresolved, check your contract for termination terms. Seek a new CPA by researching reviews, credentials, and referrals. Request your financial records to ensure a smooth transition to a new professional.
