Customer Reviews

Scott, Beverly and each person I have encountered at Scott Cornelius, CPA have all been wonderful. They're knowledgeable, timely and professional and always answer my questions thoroughly. I have recommended them many times and will continue to do so!

Very pleased with the service. Scott and team are knowledgeable, professional and efficient, handling both personal and self-employment/LLC tax returns as well as general guidance. We are so glad we found them.

Scott and his team have done an excellent job with our tax returns over the last 18 months. We recently moved to NC and wanted to use a local firm, so we were referred to Scott by a friend, and we were glad that we were! My wife runs her own business, and my own returns are a 'bit tricky,' but Scott and his team had no problem handling them. Their service is excellent, they provide a personal touch, and their rates are extremely reasonable. Highly recommended!

I am not a client of Scott's, but he took two hours out his day to answer the laundry list of questions I had surrounding taxes and LLCs. It was the most enlightening call I have had in a long time. Once I have set up business, I will definitely be using Scott and his firm to help me with my taxes!

I am a small business owner (3 staff including myself). Scott has been with us from the beginning. He and his staff have been instrumental in our business running smoothly as I learned how to run a business. He patiently answered five million questions in that first year and only half a million each year since! Everyone on his staff are so kind and quick to respond to all my questions. Even the ones that seem like I should already know the answer. I appreciate their willingness to help us plan for gro

We enjoyed working with Scott and his staff on our taxes and look forward to working with them again in the future. Scott was very professional & knowledgeable, especially in regards of how to handle cryptocurrency taxes properly and answered all the questions we had. Highly recommend.

Scott and his team have prepared our personal taxes for over a decade. He truly cares about our family and insuring we have the best outcomes for our financial success. He is always organized, offers great advice, and the service is quick. He is wonderful to work with and we highly recommend his services.

Mr. Cornelius has been exceptionally helpful in assisting my elderly aunt as she transitions to needing increased assistance with her finances. He has been very patient in explaining complicated issues to her and helping her to create a plan to ensure her financial security in the future. I can not overstate how highly I recommend Mr. Cornelius and the firm.

Scott was wonderful at explaining our tax situation to us in a way that we could easily understand. He has a breadth of knowledge built up over decades, and at the same time he couldn?t have been more patient, caring and helpful!

My wife and I were very pleased with the positive outcome on our issue. We heartily recommend Walter(Wally) Wallace he certainly lives up to his ancestral name as he got freedom of mind for us. Ron

I recently started working with a local school's PTA. I discovered they were paying over $500 to have their taxes filed. Maybe they were grossing over $50,000 in their heyday requiring a CPA but haven't in years. For their taxes a simple 990-N needed to be completed. The services were adequate, however it rubs me the wrong way they didn't better advise the PTA. There was no reason the PTA shouldn't have been advised of this, and saved their hard-raised funds for something directly benefiting the school.

Scott was very personable and fun to talk with about a not-so-fun topic. He is knowledgeable and professional. Its great that his firm has availability in Greensboro and High Point - very convenient for clients. Highly recommended. Thanks!!!

Scott and his staff are extremely knowledgeable and highly professional. They stay on top of tax law changes and the general laws of accounting by attending seminars etc. throughout the year. Cindy has been a life saver for my small business. Can?t find a better group.

Scott was dependable, kind and knowledgeable! He gave us a feeling of confidence re: our taxes. We really appreciated his courtesy in patiently answering our questions even after typical work hours.

When you want warm professionalism, depth of knowledge, and efficient workflow, then Scott Cornelius is the right fit. When five years ago, we moved to NC from NJ and had to deal with multiple-state filings as well as the new forms related to retirement funds, happily, he was recommended to us. Now multiple members of our extended family count on his services.

Thanks to Scott and team for another year of managing our tax prep and making it straight forward and simple. Looking forward (if that?s possible with taxes) to adding to our 20+ years of trusting Scott?s team with our financials.

Helped us sort through and navigate our taxes after having a terrible experience with another firm. The other firm spent 9 months working on it and never got it done. Scott?s office got our work done in less than 60 days. Very glad we decided to work with Scott Cornelius

Scott is fantastic. I had a very bad run of luck with CPAs previously - he fixed me right up and restored my confidence big time. Awesome guy, awesome team, and a wonderful guy with whom to work!

We've worked with Scott and his team for nearly a decade and he's always done an incredible job with our personal accounting questions and taxes. Highly recommended.

Frequently Asked Questions

What qualifications should I look for in a CPA?

Look for a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license, which ensures they’ve passed rigorous exams and meet state requirements. Check for relevant experience in your industry, additional certifications like CFA or CMA, and membership in professional organizations like the AICPA. Verify their credentials through state licensing boards.

How do I find a CPA in my area?

Use online directories like the AICPA, CPAverify, or state CPA societies. Search platforms like Yelp or Google for local CPAs with reviews. Ask for referrals from business associates, friends, or financial advisors. Local chambers of commerce can also provide recommendations.

What’s the difference between a CPA and an accountant?

A CPA is a licensed professional who has passed the CPA exam and met state requirements for education and experience. An accountant may lack this certification and could have varying levels of expertise. For complex tasks like tax audits or financial reporting, a CPA is typically more qualified.

How do I know if a CPA specializes in my needs?

Ask about their experience with your specific financial needs, such as tax preparation, small business accounting, or estate planning. Review their website or LinkedIn for case studies or client testimonials. Inquire about their client base to ensure they handle similar financial situations.

Should I check a CPA’s reviews before hiring?

Yes, reviews provide insight into a CPA’s reliability, communication, and performance. Check platforms like Google, Yelp, or the Better Business Bureau for client feedback. Look for patterns in reviews, but verify their authenticity, as some may be biased or outdated.

How can I verify a CPA’s license?

Visit your state’s Board of Accountancy website or use CPAverify.org to check a CPA’s license status. Confirm their license is active and check for any disciplinary actions or complaints. This ensures they’re in good standing and meet professional standards.

What questions should I ask during a CPA consultation?

Ask about their experience with your financial needs, fee structure, availability, and communication style. Inquire how they handle tax filings, audits, or financial planning. Ask for references or examples of similar work to assess their expertise and fit.

How much should I expect to pay for a CPA’s services?

Fees vary based on location, services, and complexity. Basic tax preparation may cost $150-$500, while business accounting or audits can range from $1,000 to $10,000+. Request a detailed fee structure upfront and compare quotes from multiple CPAs.

Can I work with a CPA remotely?

Yes, many CPAs offer remote services through secure online platforms for document sharing and virtual consultations. Ensure they use encrypted tools for data security. Remote CPAs can be effective if they understand your local tax laws or business regulations.

How do I assess a CPA’s communication skills?

During consultations, evaluate their ability to explain complex financial concepts clearly. Ask sample questions about taxes or financial strategies and note their responsiveness and clarity. Good communication ensures you understand their advice and fosters a productive relationship.

What red flags should I watch for when screening a CPA?

Beware of CPAs who guarantee specific tax refunds, lack a valid license, or have disciplinary actions on record. Avoid those with poor communication, vague fee structures, or negative reviews highlighting unethical behavior. Always verify their credentials independently.

Should I choose a CPA from a large firm or a solo practitioner?

Large firms offer more resources and specialized teams but may charge higher fees. Solo practitioners often provide personalized service and lower costs but may have limited availability. Choose based on your needs, budget, and preference for personalized attention.

How often should I meet with my CPA?

For individuals, annual meetings for tax preparation may suffice. Businesses may need quarterly or monthly check-ins for bookkeeping, tax planning, or financial reporting. Discuss your needs upfront to establish a meeting schedule that aligns with your financial goals.

Can a CPA help with both personal and business finances?

Yes, many CPAs handle both, but confirm their expertise in both areas. Ask about their experience managing personal taxes and business accounting simultaneously. Ensure they can balance both without compromising attention to your specific financial needs.

What should I do if I’m not satisfied with my CPA?

Discuss concerns directly with your CPA to resolve issues. If unresolved, check your contract for termination terms. Seek a new CPA by researching reviews, credentials, and referrals. Request your financial records to ensure a smooth transition to a new professional.
