Spoor Bunch Franz Accounting

We have had Rich Franz do our taxes for the past 10 years; he has done a great job for us. The communication from the firm has always been top notch. He recently got a new position so we were assigned to a new associate who I believe also did a good job. My only negative complaint is the fee we are charged; our fee has gone up about 10% each year even. For retirees this is pretty substantial.

This year with SBF has been very frustrating. My late husband and I started with Gordon Spoor over 40 years ago. I feel that the firm has gotten huge and impersonal. I never know who to contact, or who is actually handling my taxes. This year SBF has not yet electronically filed my return, though I was told that it was complete a week ago. I can't pay my first quarterly tax to the IRS until they actually get my return.

SBF has been doing my taxes for over 30 years. They are always on the cutting edge of accounting software that makes it so much easier for their clients to report their documents. They always do an excellent job!

I have trusted SBF with my tax and accounting work for many years and they have always provided great service. Paul Charest is especially knowledgable whenever we refer clients that have International Tax issues. He has always been great to work with.

This firm has grown too quickly for its own good and despite the favorable reviews my experience has been unsatisfactory. After I reviewed our return for filing less one immaterial 10-k staff changed our itemized deductions to standard. I did not catch this and we were forced to immediately file an amended return. Partners and managers were unavailable for us and unapologetic for their error (a manager reviewed the return as well).

This company is so unprofessional. If I can prevent one person from being scammed by this company that will be enough. Partners down to reception are rude and do not know how to communicate with clients. They will invoice for work they did not do. They will invoice at a higher rate. There was miscommunications between the person preparing our tax returns and Mr. Kutner. It was like the Abbott and Costello routine, Who is on First. It had to do with our stimulus checks. There are two of us and we each received two in 2020. In 2021 we received one each.. She asked Mr. Kutner if there was a third stimulus check. I have been working with Doug Keith at SBF for the past two years after SBF acquired Strawn, Marshall, Cunningham, Condon & Sweat, PA. I had been a client with SMCCS for 40 years. I was considering using this firm and asked if there would be any charges for them to evaluate my accounting and tax returns before deciding to move forward with them, I was told there would be no charges unless I used them. I decided to go with a different firm and they sent me a bill for $1575.00, I called to dispute the charges and never was able to actually talk to anyone and then had a collection agency contacting me. I would think twice about considering this group...it was a expensive waste of time.
