Extremely overpriced with little to no personal attention. They charge based on income instead of business complexity or number of employees. You have to schedule 30 minute phone calls weeks in advance just to get basic questions answered. They dropped the ball on communication and so my taxes were not filed which was, essentially, their only job. I paid over $7k per year for abhorrent customer service before I finally got wise and left. I do not recommend for any small business owners like myself. Current
I have worked with Buffalo Run Boulder for my accounting needs for years. i have always been so grateful for Cora, Amirta and Clairissa who have been so helpful in answering questions, solving problems and getting the answers I need quickly and professionally. They are really the front people for me, and I am happy they are there to assist me in prompt and courteous ways.
Best accounting office in Colorado. Been their client for almost 10 years now and never had an issue. Cora, Amirta and Clarissa are very professional, the portal is very easy to use and best of all they care of your financing, win/win for clients/Buffalo Run!
Cora/Clairissa/Amirta have been great and we were able to get a substantial tax return this year. I appreciate the professionalism, speed, and friendliness of the Buffalo Run team.
We've been using Buffalo Run for around 5 years to do our taxes and it's always very easy, not matter how complicated our taxes are for that year. Thank you!
Buffalo Run makes filing taxes incredibly easy. Kudos to the team; Cora, Clairissa, and Amirta, for being accessible and communicative. I recommend Buffalo Run for anyone who wants a seamless tax process.
We have been with Sunderland/Buffalo Run for taxes since 2006. They have done an excellent job for us over the years. When I have questions, they have answers. THANKS!
The staff are super! Very fast, accurate and efficient. Our taxes have been filed by them for years. Very pleased with the results and level of service.
Everyone at Buffalo has been so responsive and helpful in dealing with our taxes. All their efforts and hard work are greatly appreciated.
Cora, Clarissa, Amirta and Blaine were 10/10. Quickest, most responsive and accurate tax firm we?ve used
considerate, effortless & efficient service, from support staff to accountants. they all keep me, well, accountable & ease the process, especially b/c i do have my technological challenges!
Our first year with Buffalo Run Tax and Financial Services couldn't have gone more smoothly! We highly recommend them!
Outstanding firm, I highly recommend Buffalo Run for any financial needs, including tax preparation, which I how I primarily work with them.
Quick, timely completion of our taxes. Great communication throughout the process and always available to answer our questions.
I would give Mark Sunderland 0 stars if I could. We hired him as our CPA last year and it was a massive mistake. He did nothing to save us any money on our taxes and his communication is horrible. He does not explain anything clearly and when we tried to ask him a question about how much we should pay for our quarterly tax payment he sent us an invoice for almost $500 for his time to answer a question that took him probably 5 minutes to respond to about information he should have given us to begin with. He?
Cora, Clairissa, and Amirta were all super helpful and made the process painless, all three of them were super helpful.
This team is amazing to work with. They are a great guide through the process and quick to answer questions.
Excellent accounting firm. We use Sunderland for monthly accounting as well as year end tax returns. They're very knowledgeable, responsive, and professional. Because they do monthly accounting, they are in touch with us regularly and contact us whenever they see new line items that they haven't seen before the make sure we know when new charges come in. They spent 6 months auditing our prior years' accounting and fixing any mistakes we had. Very highly recommended small business accounting firm.
The Sunderland Group has taken care of our personal tax returns for the last few years with out any problems. Usually near the beginning of the year, we get an update engagement letter which spells out all the deadlines we need to meet in order to get our tax work done. Its very helpful to know what you need to provide and by when. Since their a smaller firm, I understand they don't have hundreds of people sitting around waiting for my paper work like a H&R Block but, can you trust a firm like that?
Congratulations to The Sunderland Group on the Accounting Firm of the Year achievement. Your dedication and hard work have definitely paid off. Keep up the excellent work!
Excellent Service and Professional Staff. I have used The Sunderland Group for several years and have always been pleased with the care and services provided by the team. They offer a great online tool and offer flexibility in face to face meetings as needed. It?s great to have a honest, competent and friendly CPA that?s in Boulder. I would highly recommend The Sunderland Group for your personal and small business CPA needs.
We have worked together with the Sunderland Group for a number of years now and each year gets better! Their client portal is so easy to use to review all of our business and personal finance and tax documents. The Sunderland Group sets specific dates to submit documents for tax time and those dates are very clear. We have learned that it is very valuable to meet with Mark on a regular basis to review our accounts and where we stand. They also helped our small business change from an LLC to an S-Corp,
Mark and his team are timely, responsive, and reasonably priced. Everyone is very friendly and happy to answer questions - in fact, small quick questions tend to incur no extra charges. Mark is very personable and organized. He communicates about all pending deadlines and will meet deadlines with reasonable client cooperation. We've used the firm for probably 5 years now and won't look back. A bonus is the firm's super fun "customer appreciation party" in the early Fall - food, drinks, fun for kids, et
My only regret as far as hiring Mark and his team is that I didn't get their help sooner. When my wife and I started our business, things were so simple: (not so much) money coming in - money out + turbotax = happy IRS + happy us. But as our business grew over the years, the shadow and terror of the U.S. Tax Code started to creep slowly into our lives, drowning us in paperwork, obscure rules, and estimated tax payments. Dun-dun-duuun! Anyway, we found out we were really screwed and that my training as a PhD
Steer clear of this guy as a CPA for either your personal finances or small business (the two areas I've worked with him on). He's actually a likable guy - but he's a terrible accountant. Specifically, it's April 4th and I've been waiting to hear when he'd have my small company's taxes finished, as well as my joint return with my wife. He then tells me in an irritated tone that we'll have to file an extension (i.e. not file our taxes on time). I was shocked - not only are our taxes not finished, but he'
Great team. Easy to work with!
I highly recommend Mark and his team. Mark is hard working, very competent, ethical and honest. I love the fact that he also supports local youth sports programs...I would highly recommend Mark and his group.
IRS sent me a letter that I needed to pay them $36 more after they file tax for my small business.. I have owned my business for 10 years and It has never been happened with other accountants that I hired before..
Look for a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license, which ensures they’ve passed rigorous exams and meet state requirements. Check for relevant experience in your industry, additional certifications like CFA or CMA, and membership in professional organizations like the AICPA. Verify their credentials through state licensing boards.
Use online directories like the AICPA, CPAverify, or state CPA societies. Search platforms like Yelp or Google for local CPAs with reviews. Ask for referrals from business associates, friends, or financial advisors. Local chambers of commerce can also provide recommendations.
A CPA is a licensed professional who has passed the CPA exam and met state requirements for education and experience. An accountant may lack this certification and could have varying levels of expertise. For complex tasks like tax audits or financial reporting, a CPA is typically more qualified.
Ask about their experience with your specific financial needs, such as tax preparation, small business accounting, or estate planning. Review their website or LinkedIn for case studies or client testimonials. Inquire about their client base to ensure they handle similar financial situations.
Yes, reviews provide insight into a CPA’s reliability, communication, and performance. Check platforms like Google, Yelp, or the Better Business Bureau for client feedback. Look for patterns in reviews, but verify their authenticity, as some may be biased or outdated.
Visit your state’s Board of Accountancy website or use CPAverify.org to check a CPA’s license status. Confirm their license is active and check for any disciplinary actions or complaints. This ensures they’re in good standing and meet professional standards.
Ask about their experience with your financial needs, fee structure, availability, and communication style. Inquire how they handle tax filings, audits, or financial planning. Ask for references or examples of similar work to assess their expertise and fit.
Fees vary based on location, services, and complexity. Basic tax preparation may cost $150-$500, while business accounting or audits can range from $1,000 to $10,000+. Request a detailed fee structure upfront and compare quotes from multiple CPAs.
Yes, many CPAs offer remote services through secure online platforms for document sharing and virtual consultations. Ensure they use encrypted tools for data security. Remote CPAs can be effective if they understand your local tax laws or business regulations.
During consultations, evaluate their ability to explain complex financial concepts clearly. Ask sample questions about taxes or financial strategies and note their responsiveness and clarity. Good communication ensures you understand their advice and fosters a productive relationship.
Beware of CPAs who guarantee specific tax refunds, lack a valid license, or have disciplinary actions on record. Avoid those with poor communication, vague fee structures, or negative reviews highlighting unethical behavior. Always verify their credentials independently.
Large firms offer more resources and specialized teams but may charge higher fees. Solo practitioners often provide personalized service and lower costs but may have limited availability. Choose based on your needs, budget, and preference for personalized attention.
For individuals, annual meetings for tax preparation may suffice. Businesses may need quarterly or monthly check-ins for bookkeeping, tax planning, or financial reporting. Discuss your needs upfront to establish a meeting schedule that aligns with your financial goals.
Yes, many CPAs handle both, but confirm their expertise in both areas. Ask about their experience managing personal taxes and business accounting simultaneously. Ensure they can balance both without compromising attention to your specific financial needs.
Discuss concerns directly with your CPA to resolve issues. If unresolved, check your contract for termination terms. Seek a new CPA by researching reviews, credentials, and referrals. Request your financial records to ensure a smooth transition to a new professional.
