We?ve been working with Sean at Wagner Tax + Accounting for over a decade, and he has been absolutely fantastic. He?s great to work with ? always responsive, helpful, and truly a pleasure to partner with. His rates are very reasonable, and we?ve always felt confident knowing he has our best interests in mind. Highly recommend him to anyone looking for a trusted and dependable CPA!
I wish I could give ZERO stars. I trusted Sean to help me with my start-up taxes but that was a very costly mistake! His incompetence and negligence has caused me great anxiety and stress for over 2 years as I work on correcting his mistakes. He has cost me thousands on fees and penalties to the IRS. The most egregious thing about it all is his lack of care or empathy towards seeing this through with us. He doesn?t care that he caused this mess and that?s demonstrated by his lack of follow up and action. I
Sean and his team have told me for the past two years that my taxes were filed and taken my payment when in fact they did not file them. It wasn't until I reached out both years after not finding my return with the fed or state online that they actually got filed. I was told the first year that it was an error, this is not how they do business and they would do better. Then it happened again. Stay away.
Sean is top notch! I have worked with Sean for three years now. I have called for advice and received instant help. His follow up is incredible. He never makes me feel bad about my procrastination. If you need a tax professional look no further. I am thrilled I found Sean.
Sean (originally Steve) and this company has been the accountant for my 2 businesses and my family over the past 7 or more years. His service and that of his firm is simply over-the-top awesome. The firm's prices are super fair, deadlines are met or exceeded, Sean's personal style is warm and caring. His dad Steve is the now retiring/retired, brilliant and more old-school no-nonsense founder (I totally love him and his insight / experience is spot on, but his style is quite different than Sean's; Sean has t
Sean has helped us save thousands with smart, safe, and thoughtful accounting. He gives us different options of routes to go down and is available to explain items when needed. Great for small business.
I've been working with Sean for the last year for my small business, and he has been excellent. Very knowledgeable and responsive, and a great attitude to boot. Pricing is also very transparent. I highly recommend Wagner and Associates.
Steve knows a lot about the business however I did not appreciate how he spoke to me in our last meeting. He also speaks to others in a similar, demeaning, tone. My husband called to inquire and let him know that his words could have better chosen. He was unapologetic and refused to understand our discontent. We are not professional tax preparers so we rely on professionals but did not feel that I, as a woman was spoken to respectfully and with out the insertion of demeaning remarks and curse words. I since
My wife and I worked with Steve this past year. We are both small business owners and had a mess on our hands from my previous CPA and bookkeeper. Steve spotted our issues quickly and did a great job amending our return. Very happy with Steve and his team!
I highly recommend this team. My 2020 was a complicated year with a lot more going on than usual. I knew I had to find an expert. This was my first year to use this firm. From start to finish communication was incredible. They were very thorough in explaining all the tax saving opportunities I qualified for and attaining further information from me that I didn't even know I could use. Thank you Wagner & Associates for making this such a smooth and stress free experience for me.
As a small business owner I really appreciate the time Sean has spent explain f sales tax and how to file. I 100% trust him and recommend him with my whole heart.
Sean, Sam and the team at Wagner & Assoc. are always on top of my business when I need a professional. I trust them to help me make the best decisions when it comes to my personal or business taxes. Thanks!
Five stars for Steve and his staff! I've been a client for over 20 years. He's given me invaluable business advice while managing payroll and taxes for my optometry practice.
I have been working with Sean for over a decade. If you want someone who knows their stuff, this is the guy!
Steve has been great! He?s very imformative and is very hands on. If you have a question he has an answer.
Excellent consultation hired Sean as my accountant and I feel very confident that I made the right choice !!
I couldn?t imagine having to navigate through tax season without this team! Not just tax time but daily life as a business owner, they have helped me out and been there for me when it really mattered.
I am celebrating my 20th year as a client. Nothing else to say.
Bad communication! Too good or to busy to actually help people.
Look for a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license, which ensures they’ve passed rigorous exams and meet state requirements. Check for relevant experience in your industry, additional certifications like CFA or CMA, and membership in professional organizations like the AICPA. Verify their credentials through state licensing boards.
Use online directories like the AICPA, CPAverify, or state CPA societies. Search platforms like Yelp or Google for local CPAs with reviews. Ask for referrals from business associates, friends, or financial advisors. Local chambers of commerce can also provide recommendations.
A CPA is a licensed professional who has passed the CPA exam and met state requirements for education and experience. An accountant may lack this certification and could have varying levels of expertise. For complex tasks like tax audits or financial reporting, a CPA is typically more qualified.
Ask about their experience with your specific financial needs, such as tax preparation, small business accounting, or estate planning. Review their website or LinkedIn for case studies or client testimonials. Inquire about their client base to ensure they handle similar financial situations.
Yes, reviews provide insight into a CPA’s reliability, communication, and performance. Check platforms like Google, Yelp, or the Better Business Bureau for client feedback. Look for patterns in reviews, but verify their authenticity, as some may be biased or outdated.
Visit your state’s Board of Accountancy website or use CPAverify.org to check a CPA’s license status. Confirm their license is active and check for any disciplinary actions or complaints. This ensures they’re in good standing and meet professional standards.
Ask about their experience with your financial needs, fee structure, availability, and communication style. Inquire how they handle tax filings, audits, or financial planning. Ask for references or examples of similar work to assess their expertise and fit.
Fees vary based on location, services, and complexity. Basic tax preparation may cost $150-$500, while business accounting or audits can range from $1,000 to $10,000+. Request a detailed fee structure upfront and compare quotes from multiple CPAs.
Yes, many CPAs offer remote services through secure online platforms for document sharing and virtual consultations. Ensure they use encrypted tools for data security. Remote CPAs can be effective if they understand your local tax laws or business regulations.
During consultations, evaluate their ability to explain complex financial concepts clearly. Ask sample questions about taxes or financial strategies and note their responsiveness and clarity. Good communication ensures you understand their advice and fosters a productive relationship.
Beware of CPAs who guarantee specific tax refunds, lack a valid license, or have disciplinary actions on record. Avoid those with poor communication, vague fee structures, or negative reviews highlighting unethical behavior. Always verify their credentials independently.
Large firms offer more resources and specialized teams but may charge higher fees. Solo practitioners often provide personalized service and lower costs but may have limited availability. Choose based on your needs, budget, and preference for personalized attention.
For individuals, annual meetings for tax preparation may suffice. Businesses may need quarterly or monthly check-ins for bookkeeping, tax planning, or financial reporting. Discuss your needs upfront to establish a meeting schedule that aligns with your financial goals.
Yes, many CPAs handle both, but confirm their expertise in both areas. Ask about their experience managing personal taxes and business accounting simultaneously. Ensure they can balance both without compromising attention to your specific financial needs.
Discuss concerns directly with your CPA to resolve issues. If unresolved, check your contract for termination terms. Seek a new CPA by researching reviews, credentials, and referrals. Request your financial records to ensure a smooth transition to a new professional.
