For our succession plan analysis, Steve was insightful, honest and accommodating to our budget. I highly recommend them to anyone in need of a trusted CPA, especially those in the construction industry. You'll find Steve to be very personable and direct with his approach. I will be calling Whyte & Associates for other services in the near future.
Have been working with the Whyte family and Luis Rodriguez for some time now. (2 decades?) They have always been available for my immediate needs and the services they provide really help us stay on track. Would recommend Whyte & Associates to anyone looking for a good accounting team!
I have had the upmost respect and great appreciation for Whyte and Associates. I started with Jerry Whyte back in 1980 with my start up trucking business. I have been with them ever since 1980 and have had a great relationship with Steve. Steve has had my best interest at heart since the beginning of Whyte and Associates. Thanks, Steve, for everything you have done for me! Business and personally.
Whyte & Associates Inc., is a great firm run by knowledgeable, honest, respectful professionals in their field who provide you with excellent support for your accounting, finance, and taxes requirements.
I had the privilege of working with Whyte & Associates INC., specifically with Steve Whyte, during a challenging time after the unexpected passing of our parents. Steve's assistance in wrapping up our parents' account went above and beyond our expectations. His compassion and extensive knowledge were evident throughout the entire process. Facing the complexities of our situation, where our parents didn't have anyone listed as a beneficiary, could have been a daunting nightmare. However, Steve guided me and
Whyte and Associates are amazing. It's our first year owning a business and they have gone ABOVE AND BEYOND to make the back end of business owning, so much easier. I'd be completely lost without them. I HIGHLY recommend them to anyone and everyone. They're professional, quick to respond to any questions I have, and are 100% transparent at all times. To say they're a great company is an understatement. If you need a great team, look no further.
Whyte & Associates has been helping me personally and professionally for many years. I cannot say enough about their professionalism and skill as accountants. They have provided excellent service to my family, friends and business associates over and over again. Steve Whyte is one of the most trusted professionals I have ever worked with and I'll continue to use them as long as I am in business.
I am a new client with Whyte and Associates, Inc, but I must say, Luis Rodriguez was the very best. He is so knowledgeable, helpful, patient and guided me through the entire process when dealing with our 1031 exchange. Every question I asked, he had a thorough explanation that helped me better understand my taxes and the entire complicated process. Working with Luis has made filing taxes a breeze. Highly recommend him and the entire team and Whyte & Associated.
I'm an new, small business owner. Steve handle my 2020 taxes professionally. I'm super happy that Steve provide a friendly communication. I could always count on a good contact and advice. Highly recommend to reach out to Whyte & Associate
Whyte & Associates provided excellent customer service, showed genuine care and answered my many questions throughout my IRS audit. They were able to target the areas my previous tax preparer did not and trouble shoot areas where the IRS had questions. Whyte and Associates not only found solutions, but relieved a tremendous amount of stress! I wholeheartedly endorse and recommend Whyte and Associates!!
I have been working with Tony Banta and Whyte & Associates for about four years so this review is long over due. Tony is knowledge, detailed, and prompt in responding to all my emails and phone calls. I completely trust Tony and Whyte & Associate to assist me with all my tax questions. I highly recommend any business owner to reach out to Whyte & Associate. You will not be disappointed with the service.
As an Small business owner, I need to have the proper resources when it comes to handling my finances and accounting. Whyte & Associates are the consummate professionals. There is nothing like the relief of knowing you are getting the best advice and that the advice you need is just a phone call away. Thank you Whyte and Associates for all you do!
Steve did my taxes for years. When I retired and was on a fixed income Steve suggested I do my own taxes because they were so simple. In year 2020 I had solar panels installed and my taxes became more complicated because of the tax credit program. After reading many hours of instructions I filled out my tax forms for 2020 and sent them in. I recently received a letter from IRS so that I owed them money instead of giving me tax credit for solar panels. I didn't want to fight IRS so I contacted Steve. He said
I have known Steve for years and he is very knowledgable of the tax laws. He is quick to run the numbers and give you the advice you need. I highly recommend their services!
We've been working with Tony from Whyte and Associates since opening our business back in June 2013. We have our personal and business taxes done through them and they've been a pleasure to work with. Highly recommend giving these guys a shot.
Was recommended to me from a friend and I live in Big Bear. Steve Whyte is my tax person and this year will be doing my accounting and I don't mind having to drive to see him. He has fixed some tough situations that my old tax person messed up and caused me to get audited. I couldn't have gotten through it without Steve's help!

Look for a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license, which ensures they’ve passed rigorous exams and meet state requirements. Check for relevant experience in your industry, additional certifications like CFA or CMA, and membership in professional organizations like the AICPA. Verify their credentials through state licensing boards.
Use online directories like the AICPA, CPAverify, or state CPA societies. Search platforms like Yelp or Google for local CPAs with reviews. Ask for referrals from business associates, friends, or financial advisors. Local chambers of commerce can also provide recommendations.
A CPA is a licensed professional who has passed the CPA exam and met state requirements for education and experience. An accountant may lack this certification and could have varying levels of expertise. For complex tasks like tax audits or financial reporting, a CPA is typically more qualified.
Ask about their experience with your specific financial needs, such as tax preparation, small business accounting, or estate planning. Review their website or LinkedIn for case studies or client testimonials. Inquire about their client base to ensure they handle similar financial situations.
Yes, reviews provide insight into a CPA’s reliability, communication, and performance. Check platforms like Google, Yelp, or the Better Business Bureau for client feedback. Look for patterns in reviews, but verify their authenticity, as some may be biased or outdated.
Visit your state’s Board of Accountancy website or use CPAverify.org to check a CPA’s license status. Confirm their license is active and check for any disciplinary actions or complaints. This ensures they’re in good standing and meet professional standards.
Ask about their experience with your financial needs, fee structure, availability, and communication style. Inquire how they handle tax filings, audits, or financial planning. Ask for references or examples of similar work to assess their expertise and fit.
Fees vary based on location, services, and complexity. Basic tax preparation may cost $150-$500, while business accounting or audits can range from $1,000 to $10,000+. Request a detailed fee structure upfront and compare quotes from multiple CPAs.
Yes, many CPAs offer remote services through secure online platforms for document sharing and virtual consultations. Ensure they use encrypted tools for data security. Remote CPAs can be effective if they understand your local tax laws or business regulations.
During consultations, evaluate their ability to explain complex financial concepts clearly. Ask sample questions about taxes or financial strategies and note their responsiveness and clarity. Good communication ensures you understand their advice and fosters a productive relationship.
Beware of CPAs who guarantee specific tax refunds, lack a valid license, or have disciplinary actions on record. Avoid those with poor communication, vague fee structures, or negative reviews highlighting unethical behavior. Always verify their credentials independently.
Large firms offer more resources and specialized teams but may charge higher fees. Solo practitioners often provide personalized service and lower costs but may have limited availability. Choose based on your needs, budget, and preference for personalized attention.
For individuals, annual meetings for tax preparation may suffice. Businesses may need quarterly or monthly check-ins for bookkeeping, tax planning, or financial reporting. Discuss your needs upfront to establish a meeting schedule that aligns with your financial goals.
Yes, many CPAs handle both, but confirm their expertise in both areas. Ask about their experience managing personal taxes and business accounting simultaneously. Ensure they can balance both without compromising attention to your specific financial needs.
Discuss concerns directly with your CPA to resolve issues. If unresolved, check your contract for termination terms. Seek a new CPA by researching reviews, credentials, and referrals. Request your financial records to ensure a smooth transition to a new professional.
